I have seen Goff make that same exact pass when he has time like Stafford had.
Goff has made some ridiculous passes as well, I’ll give you that. But neither you nor I nor anyone else has seen Goff no look it through a tunnel of defenders. That’s not a slight on Goff either.

Interesting Rodrigue comment in Athletic Article

McVay’s decision to speak critically in public about Goff for the first time wasn’t just a sign of things to come, but also seemed to serve as a message to his locker room, where some frustration rippled during the latter half of the season — the message being that an underperforming player would not be coddled, regardless of that player’s status."

I asked her what she meant by this "frustration" and what it was based upon.

Does it not seem odd that the locker room was pretty muted in its support of Goff. Sure there were some comments that the players were fired up to see Goff take the field with his thumb after Wolford went down but I wonder if this is McVay sensing frustration within his team about Goff's play. I mean his comments and behavior don't make a lot of sense for someone who is so calculating but frustration within the locker room could shed some light on this.
Absolutely.

Also, the way the team played when Wolford started against Arizona was a big tell for me.

Probably

But Goff is still one of my favorite players on the team so that's why I said kinda.

I don't really have a favorite Rams player - or at least not in the sense that there's anyone I'd be too upset about if they left. I suppose I'd be upset if McVay was traded though.

So I ask this sincerely - what made Goff one of your favorite players? Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, genuinely curious

Stafford has a pretty good rating when pressured, so I'd say pretty good
He also took 38 sacks so he wasn't very good at avoiding sacks from what I can tell.

If we don't get an upgrade at center, I believe his sack numbers will go even further up.

I don't dislike Staff's talent, i don't dislike moving on from Goff.
I'm not even a guy who gets super wound up with contracts and this & that guy's overpaid etc. I've gone on record several times mocking those who worry about trading away 1st rd picks every year and saying we won't be able to get talent because of cap etc...i stand by that. The results on the field since 2017 back that up.

I don't like Stafford's age. He'll be 34 a year from now. He might play another 5 years or he might fall off a cliff this season. Those are facts.

I don't like trading multiple 1st's to get rid of a contract and to acquire an aging QB. I'm having a hard time standing by that. This has been a very good football team the last four years. The results on the field back that up.

It seems the details of the resulting cap relief are sketchy right now. If the this truly does open up the FA playbook then fine, this makes more sense, but i don't want to see the Saffold's, John Johnson's, Fowler's and Leonard Floyds departing anymore.
I want to see more top tier FA brought in.

The extending Stafford talk is too much for me right now. Baby steps.

You guys are jumping to a lot of conclusions! You're missing the real point of this trade..and quite frankly, I expected far better from our smarter members....

We have NOT traded for Stafford! We have merely traded away Goff + his gargantuan contract! Stafford was just a spare part in the deal.

McVay and those in the know understand the real plan = Wolford is now the #1 QB, and Stafford has been brought in as the backup.

The WOLF era has begun!

(y) :cheers2:

Reports are that McVay coveted Stafford. Plus Matt wanted to play for McVay. If Stafford is a backup then Snead should take the Washington teams offer of their top ten pick instead

yeah maybe 1 first round pick and one other pick - but multiple 1st round picks seemed too much.

I think a lot of it could be that Detroit would take Goff and others weren't interested.

There is a big difference between trading a top 10 pick and one 10-20 or 21-32. Trading one after 20 isn't that big of a deal. Those picks are hit or miss and even then don't usually end up being franchise players.

I know your mind won't be changed but I disagree. Rams weren't going to win the Super Bowl with Goff, so if we don't win it with Stafford, no difference.

I hope we hear what happened because Goff had to have done something to get in McVays doghouse, which means even if we didn't make this trade, Goff's days in LA were numbered.
Stafford is an upgrade in my opinion.
Who knows if he did anything other than not find open receivers.
I just hope this isn’t McVay looking to cover for all the problems the O has in one move.

2017 and 2018 were good years for Goff

But the Minnesota and KC games won me over.

I always stated that the Super Bowl was too big of a stage for Goff especially in the first half.

It appeared it took until the second half for him to calm down and if not for two Cooks drops we win that game.

2019 and 2020 Goff did not have the time to throw from the pocket and I have always stated he is not good under pressure.

But give him time - he will tear apart the other teams defense.

Brady had all day against Green Bay and he still threw 3 interceptions on consecutive drives.

Goff would have tore Tampa Bay a new one if he had that time.

Now if we traded AD... THEN I would be pissed.

That's my red line.

I've never rooted for a clear, first-ballot HoF player their entire career. I've felt since his first game that he was special and even if just to watch him that every Ram game was special just because he was in it.

AD is the Rams.

Was gonna post the exact same thing. Well said.
Sorry I am just pissed off at the trade.

However, I still stand by my nickname of Blythe as The Matador

Sorry that is probably inappropriate too but dammit - it's funny (well at least to me).

oh chill out.. it was a joke.

for fucks sake - people love to jump to that moral high ground when they think there is one.

Joke? Don't jokes have to be funny? It wasn't funny the first time and you've told it four times now. How many times do you have to be unfunny before moving on?

moral high ground? okay, whatever.

Always figured that we didn't take shots at current Rams players, but I guess you got special rules just for you, so you got that going for you...

Two late firsts or a top ten pick? Which is worth more? I'd take the top ten that Washington offered personally. The Rams did what it took.

Thats a great point, and its not just two late firsts. Its two late firsts from FUTURE years. Future 1st rounders have much less value than current year 1st rounders.

Throw in how Detroit took all of Goff's contract and guaranteed money. And we got an upgrade at QB?? It was a great deal all the way around. They could have very easily accepted another team's offer and got a top-10 pick in this years draft.
