32 of 32 GMs would take Stafford over Goff. We just upgraded at QB thats all I care about.
Well 31 of 32 Gms apparently. But I feel you. I have always liked Stafford. I will rally behind our new leader. I think Stafford will do a better job leading this team.

I also want a guy that can beat the niners. Goff was a niners apologist. I mean, come on man!

Fans around the nfl seem to think this is a good trade mostly. I go to our rivals message boards and they seem pretty nervous about stafford as a ram, and they all trashed Goff too for the last few years. They know this trade puts us on another level. We kept the whiners from getting stafford and added him for ourselves, he probably has a solid 4-5 years left before age catches up. I love acquiring him, the price hurts, but apparently some teams were willing to trade multiple firsts for him besides us. The cost of doing business.

For those upset about the Rams giving up two 1st rounders... Here are the Rams recent 1st round picks:

2009 Jason Smith
2010 Sam Bradford

2011 Robert Quinn
2012 Michael Brockers
2013 Tavon Austin + Alec Olgetree
2014
Greg Robinson + Aaron Donald
2015 Todd Gurley
2016 Jared Goff

Maybe Les has learned a lesson here. Proven commodities are more valuable than picks. Out of our last 10 1st round picks, SIX of them are misses. Four of them were completely useless (Smith, Bradford, Austin, Robinson) and two of them were average players (Ogletree, Goff). Add the fact that our 1st round picks will be late 1st rounders, it make sense to take the proven player.

Now lets look at our trades and FA signings:

Andrew Whitworth
Robert Woods
John Sulivan
Sammy Watkins
Brandin Cooks
Aqib Talib
Marcus Peters
Dante Fowler
Ndamukong Suh
Jalen Ramsey
Leonard Floyd
Matthew Stafford

Majority of the FA and trade signings made a MUCH bigger impact.
You are aware there is a thing called a salary cap right?

I'm sure it'd be 32/32 if he asked to be dealt from there :sneaky:

Most of our players are in their prime now. Our window already wasn’t super wide open, this regime traded for someone whom they thought could take advantage of that right now rather than someone they knew couldn’t. We have a Super Bowl caliber defense, we need to win now to use that.

That's not all necessarily true. Caldwell was a solid coach for the Lions they just fired him too season but they were a solid defensive team when he was there (3rd one year). Stafford has had better recieving options by in large. Yeah, they're are some truths to what you are saying. However, even when Stafford has had his opportunities. He hasn't necessarily made any memorable moments.

I just can't honestly say Stafford is or will be a better QB then Goff is or will be.

What????

I was initially enraged at the trade and while I'm coming around, your last statement of memorable moments just isn't true.

Heck, his rookie season, he gutted out one of the most heroic wins maybe in NFL history.

In 2016, he had 8...EIGHT 4th quarter come from behind victories...beating both the Eagles with Wentz and our Rams with Case Keenum.

No one knows how it's gonna turn out... that's why we play the games.

But there's a reason why like 1/3rd of the NFL was interested in Stafford willing to deal at least a 1st for him while no one was dealing for Goff beyond initial inquiries.

All I know is that with a QB working well in McVay's system we went to the Super Bowl. If Stafford is that cat, then we good.

I was thinking more so in winning games that mattered. Stafford is fine and all...but so is Goff.

What separates Stafford so much more that he is worth what we gave up?

I disagree that Goff was fine... just watching him these last couple years it was obvious he wasn’t the same QB he showed to be before. How confidence wasn’t there and was consistently missing easy throws that high paid QB’s don’t. Our offense seemed obviously handicapped by play calling and this trade seems to confirm that McVay thought so as well...

As for stafford, he is a top 10 QB in this league and has tremendous arm talent, the only concern is his injury history. He will be able to stretch the field for us and hopefully stop us from throwing screens or 3 yard drag routes on 3rd and long...

I had to sleep on it before commenting. The way Goff was treated by our so called leaders was embarrassing and uncalled for. If you want to move on from him , that’s fine. Just don’t belittle the kid. He just gutted it out and played with a broken thumb in a cold weather playoff game. . McVays arrogance is getting old and Snead is a reckless gambler. McVays stale play calling was a big part of it. Refusing to make adjustments or mix things up made the offense predictable. They are the ones that handed out the big contracts to Gurley , Cooks , and Goff. Woods , Kupp and Higbee signed big deals too. I like Woods and Kupp , and Jefferson , but they are the same guy. I look for Woods or Kupp to be traded. Higbee was practically invisible this year.
As a die hard Rams fan I’m hoping for the best , but it sure feels like it could get ugly. A lot of holes to fill on this team , and no money or 1st round picks for years to come.
In Snead and McVay we trust.

I’ll take the bait. How did the organization belittle Goff? By publicly saying he needed to take better care of the ball? By saying that the team was going to have open competition at every spot on the roster? By saying Goff was the Rams QB “right now” (at the time)?

Look, I get emotions are high but Goff isn’t some rookie who was playing on a completely gutted team with a loser as a head coach. He was a well paid QB for a franchise that now has super bowl aspirations yearly. They’re a legitimate contender. When you aren’t elevating the team at the QB position and the coach and GM deem you replaceable, you’re replaced. They never said anything inaccurate, demeaning, unprofessional. Every thing they said was true, even if you don’t like the truth.
