I have to be honest, I nearly quit rooting for this team when they threw Kurt away like garbage. (And throwing Ike away didn't help either.) But I kept rooting for the Rams (while also rooting for Kurt) as they ineptly ruined Bulger's career and continued losing. This wounds me so deeply because it finally felt like we had a bright future and could contend for a long time. Instead, this move feels too much like the KW break-up and almost desperation to go all in on the next few years with a QB I don't think can bring us a championship. I was so optimistic about our future, and this trade gutted me.

I need to think on things and assess where I stand. I don't want to make a rash decision. But I am with you on hating this trade.
I have been a Rams fan for 52 years. I have seen a lot of crap go on, but I was never more pissed off with the way they treated Warner. He was the best thing that happened to this franchise in a long time and they treated him like shit.

And just for the record I like Stafford always have .. I do not like the trade .. giving up 2 first rounders (again) a third for a QBs that has never sniffed the super bowl .. for a young qb that’s been to the playoffs 3-4 seasons has the 2nd most wins over four years .. this is a make or break move and anything short of a Super Bowl victory means this is a failure

So we are just playing an opinion game of "Who credits who"?

In Goff's time here I only need to see him before McVay and after to know where to go with credit.
You mean the 7 games under that offensive genius Jeff fisher with rob boras as his OC .. yea right

People with their heart set on this being a bad trade won’t be talked into believing otherwise. This trade was 1. To get out of the Goff contract and 2. For Stafford.

McVay didn’t believe he was going to win a Super Bowl with Goff so the trade was made to get out of his contract first and foremost. The second first round pick and this years third was to get Stafford. That’s not a significant price to pay for a QB of his calibre.

Stafford doesn’t need to win it all for this to be “the right decision.” It was the right decision because we were able to get out from under Goff AND replace him with a better player. But people are going to argue this to death but in the end the head coach and GM made a decision they get paid to make. All these armchair GMs acting like they know better should apply for the real gig with an NFL front office if they’re so damn confident.
This was the exact comment I was going to make.

GOODBYE GOFF YOU OVERRATED SELF ENTITLED OVERPAID JACK ASS!!

Good, maybe we can do something in the playoffs now. I honestly thought we’d target Deshaun and didn’t expect Stafford with his age but hey I’ll take it!

GOFF HAD 38, thats 38 TURNOVERS THE LAST 2 SEASONS!! Absolute trash!

Guy didn’t even look past 15 yards down the field in the Pack game... smfh

Maybe you can learn which direction the sun rises in Detroit and how good you had it here!

On to a real QB named Matthew Stafford! Hell of a pick up, it’s time to win this division and pick up some Lombardis!

oh and Snead, a little heavy on the picks but I’m sure the dumb ass skins raised the price on us...

Great points. And when you look at it compared to other recent blockbuster trades.. lets say the Jamaal Adams trade. We did VERY well.

Seattle got:
Jamal Adams 2022
4th-round pick

Jets got:
Bradley McDougald
2021 1st-round pick
2022 1st-round pick 2021
3rd-round pick

Essentially the exact same price they paid, yet we got a top-10 QB + offloaded Goff's terrible contract. Once people see Stafford play this will be looked at as a steal IMO. Plus you know McVay stuck it to SF and Shanahan who wanted Stafford bad, so that's like getting an extra pick back psychologically.

We should be the one getting picks. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, Goff was good when LeFleur was here.
Watch Goff light it up in Detroit, wouldn't that take the luster off the boy genius.
Ummm, you have watched Goff play the last 2 years right? Saying he has been inconsistent would be an understatement. His neck up talent just wasn’t good enough for McVay. I am only surprised by how quickly this happened, and the cost.

For those upset about the Rams giving up two 1st rounders... Here are the Rams recent 1st round picks:

2009 Jason Smith
2010 Sam Bradford

2011 Robert Quinn
2012 Michael Brockers
2013 Tavon Austin + Alec Olgetree
2014
Greg Robinson + Aaron Donald
2015 Todd Gurley
2016 Jared Goff

Maybe Les has learned a lesson here. Proven commodities are more valuable than picks. Out of our last 10 1st round picks, SIX of them are misses. Four of them were completely useless (Smith, Bradford, Austin, Robinson) and two of them were average players (Ogletree, Goff). Add the fact that our 1st round picks will be late 1st rounders, it make sense to take the proven player.

Now lets look at our trades and FA signings:

Andrew Whitworth
Robert Woods
John Sulivan
Sammy Watkins
Brandin Cooks
Aqib Talib
Marcus Peters
Dante Fowler
Ndamukong Suh
Jalen Ramsey
Leonard Floyd
Matthew Stafford

Majority of the FA and trade signings made a MUCH bigger impact.

I decided to check the news before going to bed for any trades and I wasn't disappointed.

Love this trade!!!

Lions can deal with JaGoff and his turnover ratio while we get a much smarter QB with a better arm that makes quicker decisions and doesn't lock on his primary receiver!

Am I wrong (Please tell me that I am!) being concerned about Stanford’s AGE (As old as I am it seems funny saying that 33/If that is his age is an Age Issue!) & HEALTH ISSUES? I wouldn’t be nearly as concerned about those issues if the Rams didn’t give up so much to get Stafford!

And, How ticked off is Ramsey going to be that the Rams could not pull off a trade for his friend Watson? I wonder how hard or even if they tried to trade for him?!

Ramsey may be pissed, but there may have been nothing Snead could do.

Could be that they had the structure in place working with Mulugheta and thought they could pull it off and then Caserio comes in and decides that, "nah, we're not trading Watson... AT ALL. If he sits, he sits, but he HAS to play for us or he never plays again"

Which honestly is a shit sandwich of a position... you want the most important position on your team to not want to be there? But they're the Texans, so... of course I shoulda seen that coming...

Welp, that plan was blown to shit... next?

I also think that it's possible that I and others were completely wrong and McVay had ID'd Stafford from the start... like his arm, pocket mobility, vision and toughness.

It's possible to be right and wrong... Ramsey may have had all the right info and then Caserio completely changes things.

All we can do is hope the Stafford/McVay mind meld happens early and we maximize the potential they have working together.
