I would agree with you if we haven't been drafting so well with our mid round picks.. rounds 2-5. We've been killing it there lately and we've had no 1st rounder as is in 5 years. Players > picks... ALWAYS. And getting out of Goff's contract!!!?? Who the hell thought we could do that.

People aren't thinking enough about the Stafford/McVay combo. It's going to be insane I'm telling you right now. If we sign a deep threat we will be competing for an NFC title next year.

They did well with mid picks, they would probably do better with firsts. They keep kicking the salary cap can on down the road and will leave a big mess for whomever takes over when they're gone. Stafford may do better than Goff, but he had a broken back last year, played hurt and missed games this year and is 33 years old. We got fucked on this deal. If they didn't give Goff a contract 2 years too early, we wouldn't of had to pay someone to take on Goff's contract, which doesn't even start till next year. We never had to give him a contract and could have just said buh bye without having to eat $22mil of dead cap and give up all the picks. They fucked this up badly! They are good at fucking shit up.

We ate over $30mil of dead cap last year and will do it again this year, we still have dead cap for Gurley this year.
That's over $60mil of cap space gone. WE could fill every hole on our team with good players with that money.
They are lucky they have silent owner that doesn't go in front of the media and belittle them for how much of his fucking money they wasted. Giving huge up front bonus's and a shit ton of guaranteed money for a player who gets dumped before his huge contract even starts! And we sit here and laugh at how shitty other teams run their franchises.

Lions must be dancing in the aisles. Two firsts + additional picks for an old average QB? Terrible.

I don't know what they'll do with Stafford's contract. But as it stands now, they lose $8 million cap room from this trade. They could extend Stafford and lower his cap number, but they'll have to give him guaranteed money to do that. And considering this team's recent history with extensions and guaranteed money . . .
I was just gonna say forget us extending him next year, our dumbasses will do it 3 weeks before the start of the 21 season. Not learning a single lesson from paying players too early.

I will grant you that Stafford is a better processor and a better arm.

By OTAs, I really hope the receivers are giving WOWs and thumbs up on this...

I think they will be. His arm is insane. Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen, Stafford.... He's in that class of pure arm talent. But then throw in the intangibles. The dude is a natural leader, chippy competitor, confident, tough... I mean the list goes on and on. IMO people will start coming around once they start watching him more.

IMO people aren't even that mad about losing Goff, its the two 1st round picks. But they will be super late 1st rounders anyways and we knew offloading Goff's contract would cost extra. Great QB play will offset those feelings very quickly.

Uh, we need a whole lot of help on the OL. Where in the FUCK are we going find a left tackle now with zero draft capital. Good luck MS sure hope the rest of your back don’t get broken real soon here. Fuck
Boy do I have news for you! We didn't draft the left tackle that we have now

Very disappointed. I actually like Stafford and think he could be an upgrade right now., but to give up all those picks - again. I get this has a ton to do with his contract. Combine that with what we did with both Gurley and Cooks (contacts) ... our team has a significant blind spot in that department Just really bad decisions.

Stafford has had some injury problems too and Jared has really been reliable/tough in that department.

I really rooted for Jaren... really like the kid. The moment he finally lost me was the pick in SEA (week 16). Rams in field goal range, being chased to the right sideline... no one open and he throws it away ... across his body and back into the field of play! Picked (J. Adams I think). Jared had to try very hard to throw that ball back into the field... I came unglued. FFS JG ... just launch it OB!

Still ... sick to my stomach with this. I'll always be a Rams fan ... but a little bit died today.

This trade was the direct result of horrid cap management and sharp regression from Goff.

Am I the only one who could see Goff was too mentally slow to run McVay’s offense at full potential? We paid him too soon and this is the result. There was no way to get under the cap without cutting massive contracts.

I will guarantee this at least, Goff will never win a SB in Detroit.

I saw it. I didn't want to pay him after that Super Bowl. Needed him to prove it one more year, which wouldnt have happened. But the MO seems to be hand out contracts early - likely an MO that will be no more

The only way I can get behind this trade is if we use the cap room to fortify the offensive line and retain Floyd. We better do that, or else Stafford - who has an injury history - might not make it through the year. If we can do that, I think we are in a good position, at least for the short term, and would be in a very good spot to compete for a super bowl. I really, really hope that is the plan. But knowing Snead and McVay, it won't be, and the o-line will continue to be neglected.

Over all, having seen a lot of Lion games, Stafford is better under pressure (often behind bad lines) than Goff.
Overall, just an impression.

I've also seen a bunch of Stafford games. He plays hero ball a lot. Doesn't like to throw it away. He will make risky passes to covered receivers and end up racking up picks. I think it was last year he threw like 5 picks to the Jets under pressure.

It will be interesting to see how the offense looks next season, b/c McVay had to at times dial down the offense due to Goff's limitations and low football IQ.

So far, this is the only post that helps make any sense of this deal.

It’s not just 2 1sts and a 3rd and Goff for Stafford.

Its for Stafford AND 43MILLION in extra cap space.

What if Rams can now afford some premium FA to beef up the O-line, and add a deep threat, and keep JJ or Fowler?

If so, the Rams would be a team to be reckoned with for 2021 and beyond.

Yes, at first glance the trade looks awful. But let’s see what the Rams can add in FA as a result of this deal.

I just love hearing everyone all up in arms over this move like any of us had a say in the matter. McVay and Snead get paid to do this shit but some people here think they know better. It’s laughable really hearing people say things like “I may stop supporting this team” but spent hours upon hours defending Goff. Way to show where your loyalty rests.

I’m thrilled over this move for one reason and one only: our organization felt this was best for the team right now and they went for it. I support this team no matter what and I look forward to ‘21 and for Stafford under center.

I wish there was a love emotion, because I agree with this post x1000.

True.
I think some of that comes from usually playing from behind with bad defenses.
Maybe that will change IF the Rams can maintain their level of play.

Imagine the realization for Goff of having to move from his great California home/life, to Detroit. I wonder what his girlfriend will think of it. Plus Goff’s never been the best cold weather QB and now he finds himself in the NFC North playing in Chicago and Green Bay.

Maybe they Lions will try to flip Goff to the Niners or someone else.
