Jesus titty fucking christ ... this trade is Bill O'Brien level stupid.

I wouldn't have liked it if it was just a 1-1 swap of QB's with no other compensation ... but we have to go throw in two more first round picks and a 3rd rounder?

No, this is worse than Bill O'Brien level stupid.

Sean McMartz and Les Devany just traded a young QB for an older QB who's more injury prone, not one iota more mobile, who's never won anything even when he a a receiver like Megatron, and mortgaged more of our future to get it. One could at least defend giving up this much if we had gotten Watson since he's unquestionably and upgrade over Goff. But Stafford is not, this is a lateral move at best for the Rams QB position, and that's only if Stafford stays healthy - hardly a guarantee given that McMartz doesn't seem to think OL is important.

We got raped, and not even the courtesy of vaseline before the shoved it in.

I hope to God I'm wrong about this and it works out, but I have less than zero confidence in this being a good move, even moreso with out first round picks being tossed away like that. Meanwhile, Detroit has Brad Holmes and extra draft capital to build around Goff.

If the Rams don't make the playoffs for some reason next year, any reason, McMartz and Devaney need to be shown the fucking door, stat.

See I love the Rams..die hard fan. But more than that I'm an objective football fan. Stafford was a better prospect coming out of college, and has a WAAAY better pro career than Goff. Goff has had 2 good years out of 5. Two!! Stafford has some of the best arm talent in the entire NFL. Top 3-5 I'd say.

Theres no doubt in my mind hes better than Goff as hard as that is for people to hear. Its what happens when you get overly emotionally attached to a player. 32 of 32 GMs would take Stafford over Goff. We just upgraded at QB thats all I care about.

Maybe... but I'm skeptical until I see a real upgrade on the field. And I'm skeptical that the Rams' offense will support a higher level of performance from Stafford or a better overall result.

Don't get me wrong... I REALLY hope it works out. I REALLY do.

And knowing Detroit took on the guarantees... that's a really big deal for us to retain more talent.

I'm warming up to this, but it's gonna take time...

Honestly, the cap relief makes a difference.

I know football. I know value. I know trades. I know the eye test.

I know this doesn’t makes sense regarding football, value and draft capital loss. So this definitely doesn’t pass the eye test.

I will support this team until my dying day, but I won’t hold my criticism of how Sneed and McVay are handling things!

Stafford has been a gamer, actually i’ll never question his toughness. I remember watching this game. Even with crapbag Linehan in the video...

That may be it.

It may work out famously. I dunno.

What this tells me mostly is that the Texans really aren't gonna trade Watson unless they get 4+ first rounders which no one's gonna give.

No, I don't know you, but if you're gonna do this bullshit snarky shit, we're gonna go at it. You can always block me.

And I'm not making demands. If you care about the forum, you don't gloat in the faces of fellow posters. We can disagree, but that gloating shit is for the birds, but it already seems like you're just gonna defend that with more "you don't know me, bro" nonsense.

Have fun making friends, BRO.

The Texans may take two or three firsts but they certainly won’t be all top twenty picks. The Niners and Rams both likely fit that bill.

The Texans want to trade him to a bad team, if they trade him.

Some terrible cap knowledge here; Rams will lose $6.25m in cap room with this trade unless the Lions are paying Stafford's roster bonus (in which case they'd gain $3.75m).

Why would you be skeptical of that? Stafford was having better years than Goff with less talent around him.

Its a no brainer he will have a better year under McVay and with our talent 100%. He's a legit stud QB man. People that love Goff are just hurt right now and I understand, but Stafford will be amazing for us.

Better arm, better brain, more athletic than Goff. He's not a running QB but he will run. He's solid as fuck man. He's never ever had a running game, a scheme, or a coach like McVay either.

Jesus christ can they at least throw in a bottle of lube... this makes like zero sense to me... fuck

The lube is taking Goff's guarantees... 43M...

That really helps going forward.

I don't think Stafford is a huge upgrade, but if he can be 2018 Goff, well, that was us in the Super Bowl...and we have the cap relief to retain talent now...

I'm just confused and hurt and frustrated.

I really hope Stafford comes in... lights the new stadium on fire and we wreck the division...

This trade was the direct result of horrid cap management and sharp regression from Goff.

Am I the only one who could see Goff was too mentally slow to run McVay’s offense at full potential? We paid him too soon and this is the result. There was no way to get under the cap without cutting massive contracts.

I will guarantee this at least, Goff will never win a SB in Detroit.

Well, we definitely need to spend a lot of the remaining draft capital on interior Oline. Stafford is a statue in the pocket like Kurt was...

If we win one Superbowl it'll be worth it
Uh, we need a whole lot of help on the OL. Where in the FUCK are we going find a left tackle now with zero draft capital. Good luck MS sure hope the rest of your back don’t get broken real soon here. Fuck

Rams set to go 7 years without a first-round pick

[theramswire.usatoday.com]

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead puts very little value in first-round picks – making that very clear once again in his blockbuster trade for Lions QB Matthew Stafford.

The Rams are trading two first-round picks to the Lions, with those selections reportedly coming in 2022 and 2023. They don’t have a first-rounder in 2021 because of the Jalen Ramsey trade, which was the case last year, too.

In fact, the Rams haven’t made a first-round pick since they took Goff No. 1 overall in 2016 after moving up to draft him. As a result of this trade, as well as others involving Ramsey and Brandin Cooks, the Rams aren’t slated to make a first-round selection until 2024.

That will make it seven years in a row that the Rams won’t use a first-round pick in the draft – a span only twice seen before in the NFL.

The Ramsey trade undoubtedly has worked out in the Rams’ favor, but the deals for Cooks and Goff didn’t necessarily come with the return Los Angeles was hoping for.

Now, we’ll see if it really sets them back by missing out on first-round rookies for seven years in a row – barring a trade, of course.

The guy will be 33 years old next month! All that for a one contract player? All it's saying is Sean is scapegoating Jared. He's got to be viewed as a bridge QB because of his age. He's a good QB, but what if Goff goes on to become the franchise QB he is capable of being? Holmes is no fool. He knows what he has in Goff and exactly the team he needs to build around him. I am not worried about the first round picks. The Rams haven't needed them except as trade bait so in reality, it's basically like they are trading away their comp 3rd round pick. The structure of Stafford's contract will be crucial to making this work. It wouldn't surprise me if Matt's agent hasn't already worked it out with Snead, because clearing cap is a necessity to making this work.

IMO this was more about clearing cap than anything else. It also wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was discussed before Holmes leaving for Detroit. One good thing is Stafford will be playing behind a better line. Sean has no excuses anymore if they don't WIN THE SUPERBOWL NEXT YEAR, which will be played at Sofi. I think that was a large part of this trade.

Stafford is a scheme fit as a pocket passer with a good vertical game. One interesting thing is that Sean won't have to be in Stafford's ear between plays so all those unnecessary timeouts shouldn't happen.
