It was easy to bring back Saffold and Brockers back because no bridges had been burned, but in this case... Lol. People forget that the deal isn't official until mid March

Tell Mcvay that. Is it Tampering now that they are going over the playbook?
Actually Terry Bradshaw said Mcvay & Stafford were flying back to LA together to go house hunting. That is not (LA)Alabama where gunslingers are more common.

I wonder if it's tampering AFTER the trade has been completed? Perhaps the paperwork was already sent to the nfl but it can't be completed officially until the new league year.

I struggle that he is 32 on a two year deal and the last pick we gave up won't happen until the year after he is potentially no longer a ram.
In this age of modern sports nutritional supplements, an NFL QB could extend his career 10 plus years i.e. Matt Stafford playing into his mid-40s at a high level.

Possibly but even in this day and age people break down in their 30s or younger as well. A back injury has the potential to show back up.

I took the family to see the Rams in Detroit back in 2016. Great game except for the loss. We talked to Quinn (didn’t play), got a few autographs (Greg the leg , Saffold , and Ogletree. My wife and I had the pleasure of having a few drinks with Ramondemand member CGI (great guy ). Although I didn’t concentrate on Staffords play , I believe he lit us up for 3 or 4 TD passes. Still a great trip

Or is it? One could argue the lack of top tier talent over the last few years is the reason we had Blythe's, Notebooms, Evans, Reynolds (insert linebacker here) and the reason why our team is declining.

We will see.

Yeah, we'll see.

But I dunno that you can expect any team to have ADs and Ramsey's at every position. That's some Madden stuff right there.

Also, I don't think we're declining. Sure, falling off 4 games wasn't good, but then we improved a game and won a playoff game.

It's an extremely lofty goal, but this FO really is gonna pull out the stops to win every year. Even with Goff, we were in striking distance. However, by the time we got to GB, we were playing our 3rd road game in 4 weeks and we'd been HEAVILY relying on our D and they just couldn't hold up to a Rodgers led offense that was as dialed in as it was at home. It may have been very different had we somehow had the 1 seed and didn't have to travel those two weeks.

If nothing else, not having to always have that "don't sweat it, it's a rebuilding year" mantra running through my mind is very refreshing.

I think Stafford could lead us to an NFC best 14 - 2 record

I don't think anyone is feeling sorry for Watson.

If anyone thinks contracts are ironclad... they aren't. They're broken, renegotiated, obviated, torn up, extended, amended, etc all the time.

It's not about feelings. It's about player agency and respect. The old ways of doing things are dead and I realize some don't like it. I love it, but I get that not everyone does. Most NFL owners are completely clueless and are constantly surprised which is belligerently stupid on an amazing scale.

I dunno about you, but I don't sit down in a Kroenke jersey to watch his white, old, wrinkley ass battle Robert Kraft's white, old, wrinkley ass. I watch football for the PLAYERS.

NO ONE gives a fuck about the owners. No one roots for the owners. This game is not now and has never been about the owners. It's ALWAYS been about the game.

Problem is that the owners think they ARE the game.

I'm so damned tired of that.

I'm also not a big fan of outright lying.

Part of Watson signing was that they went to him. The arguments seem to compartmentalize that, but they're inextricable.

If the Texans don't go to him and make those promises, do we know for certain that he still signs the extension? No we don't.

We know now that he's willing to sit out the season due to the lying to him so at the very least we can infer that those promises were part of his decision making process to sign.

He signed the extension way before those alleged promises were made. Again, he saw the circus and chose to be a part of it.

And you know what? That's the real world. The NFL is even colder.

At the end of the day, I just don't want him going to the 9ers. I hope he gets out because he's a solid young man and a legit superstar and no one deserves to have to deal with lying bosses and a shit work environment, be they a fast food worker or one of the best QBs in the NFL.

Well I agree with you on that.

I dont know why you seem to be intentionally leaving out the most important piece here. The team committed to him that he was going to be involved. So yes, they are 100% wrong. They either had no intention of honoring that when originally committed, which is wrong, or they didnt think enough of him to actually follow thru with said commitment.
In the majority of these discussions I am pro-owner. But there is no 2 sides to this, they are 100% wrong. And sorry to say, but if your employer did the same to you, they are not committed to you which means you are replaceable.

No one locally believes this. There was a major talking point yesterday that the national and other teams' perspective is that it's all on the org. Not the case. He doesn't get to leave because he doesn't like the owner or his opinion was overlooked.

BTW. Had a call yesterday and was again asked about my thoughts on our outlook and team members. We'll see what happens, but they can chose to take a different direction.

Wondering what the Eagles get for Wentz. Sounds like he may be traded soon, and the Colts sound like a real possibility.

As in, you think Stafford may only play for the Rams for two years?

Because it’s a different game for QB’s these days. Rodgers, Brees both over 35, playing at a higher level. Philip Rivers just retired at 39. Old man Brady.

Stafford has 4 or 5 years left, easy.

We still have to extend and/or resign him. I assume that may happen, as at least a 1 year extension apparently may give us more cap flex. But it's not a done deal yet and it will certainly be expensive.

Of course the gamble for the Rams is that by having a small number of great players at the most important positions you can stock other spots with lower draft picks. That worked with AD and Ramsay. Adding Stafford at the qb is a logical extension of this philosophy, which I support as a concept.

But the Rams must still maintain or fill other key positions on the offense and defense while operating under challenging cap constraints. It remains to be seen whether the Rams can rework contracts and find cap space, extend Stafford, keep the D at a high level, and then further have an offensive roster capable of functioning at a high level with a new qb.

This will be a challenge. I don't think that bringing back the same offensive roster is sufficient. Imo we still have holes to fill on the O at minimum at center and at deep threat wide receiver(s) to make it work. But I support pulling out all the stops, as you say, to try to make championship runs while we have AD in his prime.
