You realize that they wouldn't have made a to the Super Bowl without McVay coaching Goff 15 seconds before the snap

Blah blah blah.

Every coach speaks to every qb before the snap. I'm so Fucking sick of hearing that shit, especially after Goff was traded.

Fuck me, the way people turn on players.

So he didn't live up to your (not you in particular, a general statement) standards, get over it.

Goff will get his bell rung in the smash mouth-Black & Blue Division

This isn't the 90's. One could argue Goff has played in the "black and blue" division the last five seasons. The west teams tear each other up, and Goff has toughed it out every year.

merge alert.

This trade was interesting in that the members who didn’t like it initially... many of them “warmed up to it 12-24 hrs later”... It was really different that way.

This topic could be about that, in this case the OP still hasn’t come around 5-6 days later.

But, yeah that also leads to the same reasons and trade debate.

Let’s see where it goes. Still beats talking Tom Brady... lol

I dunno if this is the new trend or if it's just the Rams way of doing business or if it's even sustainable, but it's working thus far and until the Rams can't draft in the mid-rounds, it should continue to work well.

Or is it? One could argue the lack of top tier talent over the last few years is the reason we had Blythe's, Notebooms, Evans, Reynolds (insert linebacker here) and the reason why our team is declining.

We will see.

I just wanna say, I didn't turn my back on Goff. Cause I never liked him. I didn't want us to draft him. I wanted Wentz(I know, he sucks too)

But even I struggle with the trade. We gave up so much for a QB who may only play a couple more years.

Bottom line tho, he is far superior to Goff in every way on the Football Field. And if we win a Superbowl or two the price would have been worth it.

I struggle that he is 32 on a two year deal and the last pick we gave up won't happen until the year after he is potentially no longer a ram.

I also wanted to keep Goff and expected him to in in LA next season.

The thing is, we won't know if it was the best decision until the season is well underway.

If the offense is light years better and the defense is a disaster, and the Rams end up 9-7, some people will say the trade was a failure.

Conversely, you rarely see threads touting how great McVay has been.

Finally, I'm still waiting on the "I was wrong" thread from posters who said cutting Gurley was a mistake. There were quite a few, not unlike this move. Hope they're able to admit they were wrong on this one if it's called for

So one thing in defense of Jared was the volatile pocket passer thing - I wonder...

With Brees likely done in NO, and what feels like we're coming to the end with Rodgers...

I wonder if Packers/Saints/Colts fans were disappointed in their franchises for only winning on Super Bowl with Rodgers/Brees/Manning?

When Manning was young, I wonder if the rest of the team was like ours and Manning was holding the team back, how Colts fans would feel trading him to have a shot at two Super Bowls? Knowing that he only ended up winning one?

And those guys are all top 5 all time QBs, unlikely Goff was going to end up as good as them.

I guess my point is - the ceiling for Super Bowl wins with Goff was likely one, and it was far from guaranteed. So even if he ends up having a good career, I'm totally okay with this trade because I think this team is ready now, even if it ends up not working out

There is no doubt in my mind that Matthew Stafford is a FAR better QB than Jared Goff and I can't wait to see how he performs with a rushing attack and using play action more than he ever has in his career.

As a longtime draftnik I have little concern about losing 1st round selections at the bottom of the round to acquire proven NFL talent. Why? Because I understand that draft eligible players are rated in tiers and not rounds by the NFL personnel. ie. There are simply not 32 highly rated blue-chip players in each draft class. There are usually just 12-20 each year. The next tier typically includes 30 - 50 players who begin to get selected in the second half of the first round and well into the 2nd round.

All that said, would I have made a trade? Yes & No.

Yes. I would have traded Jared Goff and his bloated contract to the highest bidder this offseason.

But, no I wouldn't have traded for Stafford.

Why?

I have to admit, I was really hoping that QB Bryce Perkins would win the job and excite McVay enough to come up with some sort of RGIII rookie year / Lamar Jackson type offense. And his rookie contract would allow the team to upgrade the OLine with veterans and/or keep some of the free agent defensive talent.

So my guess is that those who are bummed about the trade might be thrilled that I'm not running the show.:)

Once teams realized that he wasn’t as good when the defense alignment changed after the 15 sec mike shut off, he became easy to defend.

Not my words by the way. But it seemed obvious.

Again I'm sure there are many who don't like this trade and still won't until the Rams start out 6-0 and Matthew Stafford is the Toast of Tinseltown.

As in, you think Stafford may only play for the Rams for two years?

Because it’s a different game for QB’s these days. Rodgers, Brees both over 35, playing at a higher level. Philip Rivers just retired at 39. Old man Brady.

Stafford has 4 or 5 years left, easy.

Big Ben , Plus you have to ADD playing in LA in that Beautiful SOFI STADIUM no one has been able go in yet to watch a game. That Grass will feel so much better on his body.

Will be Fun to Watch Jared Goff on Turkey Day in the Morning.Just think of him on that Carpet, when the game speeds up even faster for him. I remember Bulger,Warner,Bradford getting pounded In The LOU.You would have thought that building an offensive line was a priority.

Have to LMAO at Ram Fans wanting to go back to The Draft for a Offensive Lineman. Jason Smith & Greg Robinson kept coming to mind.

There are 2 first rd picks I would not mind giving up with Goff for Stafford.
Add The Rams just got a 3rd rd pick for Holmes that helped make The Trade posible.

The bottom line is the coaching staff sat down at the end of the season(and likely before that) and asked themselves....can we win with Goff leading the offense?

The trade says all we need to know about that assessment.

We aren't in those rooms so we have no idea what he was and wasn't executing correctly. What we can see is if his rhythm is off we see games like against the Jets. What we see are the turnovers. What we see is an apparent inability to identify a blitz and adjust protection.

This team is not afraid at all to sit down and move on regardless of contracts with players they don't feel like they can win it all with. We saw it with Gurley, Cooks, Talib, Ogletree, Austin, Barron, Peters, and now we've seen it with Goff.

Where do you rank your QB list off hand.I know your excited & all but if you have time after all the excitement & before things start getting even more exciting. I know I”ll be excited this weekend with this QB ranking thing. The Goat & This Next generation Guy.

Like a good reference for me would be like The NBA with Jordan vs Bird for the Eastern Championships of course to play The Lakers.

Stafford playing for The SuperBowl where this coming up season. If Brady wins it will take away from the LA Hollywood story a little.

Jared Goff list to The 0-13 NY JETS in SOFI STaDIUM. If that was The Future then MCSNEAD made the right call & not waiting for 3 years $140 million later.

Not picking on the original poster here but I see a lot of mention about Stafford and injuries. He hasn't missed many games. All players play hurt. What am I missing here?
His recent past back injury scares the hell out of me considering his style of play.

Yes - Peters is playing like crap & has an attitude. The Rams had to Start 2 22 year Old Rookies & what do they do in MId-Season?
Trade for Jalen RAMsey who they just signed for Les than Goff.Traded for Corbett & got rid a the Cancer in Peters.Oh & his Ganster Partner(who I respect) Talib.I have never seen a Trade mud- season in The NFL like that.
The Rams had SF 8ers BEAT.What does Goff do ? Throws that INT going into HALF. Blame The Young O”Line. Keep Blaming the O”Line.I’m not a Hate Jared Goff Fan,but Wolford who is NOT a good QB helped open up The Offense & Run Game.

Who knows but it does add a lot of excitement going into 2021.

I hope he does. And I hope it's all for us. But playing for someone like the Lions for over a decade can take it out of a guy. Lol

Reggie is The Best!!

Goes back to The Spags days when he was first hired. Speaking of Spags.Does he win another(2 in a row) one? Get into Brady’s head again. He beat him with The Giants.

Stafford is in good hands & So are The Rams. This Franchise is awesome right now!!
