I have an opposing opinion. I think Barron is a better football player than Ogletree. He has better anticipation and feel for where a play is going to go, and he's much better at getting to the ball carrier and bringing him down. The grading at PFF seems to be inline with my opinion ;

Player - Overall Grade
Alec Ogletree 39
Mark Barron 71

If you think Barron should be gone, maybe Ogleetree should also?

The Rams don't agree with your opinion. I'll take the Rams over PFF.

But what do the Rams know? They sacrificed their future to draft a bust in Goff, and still had TA on their roster despite most fans calling for him to be cut.

I can't speak for anyone else but personally my issue with Quinn and Barron isn't that they lack talent but that for other reasons there's a legit case to be made that the roster is better off without them.

For Quinn, regardless of how well he played down the stretch, his current level of play isn't close to his price tag. Lack of depth behind him makes it easier to swallow that price tag but it's still an overpay imo

For Barron, he's too small and a terrible fit next to ogle tree. Week after week there was a lack of a run stuffing lb presence and swapping Barron for another lb could help fix that. Does help he makes a lot of money to be a bad fit too

In a cap driven league you gotta spend your money wisely and there's a legit case that both Quinn and Barron hurt the rest of the roster with their current price tags

when teams ran downhill on us... most of the times they were running the ball right at Barron. Having Barron and Tree as our inside LBs..we just didnt' have the type of stout LBs against the run that's going to make a 3-4 work..

If he posts 8-10 sacks again, he's getting paid what he's worth. There's a dearth of pass rushers in FA. Quinn would get paid more in FA than we're paying him now.

dagnabit.....if Rapoport has it right we got reamed big time. No corner and especially one with significant character concerns is worth 2 #1s and a 3 to boot.
Can't believe Snead would get shafted like that.

I don't recall saying anything about who is better. Just that they aren't a good fit next to one another. And considering the new Rams regime gave ogletree an extension this season I think it's clear which player is here long term hence my post about Barron being the odd man out

He's not a good fit next to Ogletree? If Barron had played the same number of games, he would've ended up with more tackles than Ogletree.

So, if Barron is let go, will Ogletree stop missing assignments and stop missing tackles?

Yes, you are right. It appears it's the Rams decision to go with Ogletree for the long haul. I'm OK with it. I just think that up to this point, I think Barron has been a a beter LB pound for pound.

And there's a chance CB will have an elite cover guy sitting there at 23, too. When I imagine this dude paired with Hughes, or Ward, or Alexander, hell even maybe J Jackson I be like...

If we can get Jackson.... I second your pic (especially because I think Vea won’t be there and you don’t pass on a legit ballhawk with good technique)

i think you are missing what im trying to say. yes barron played well in his role and its actually a great fit for him position/role wise. the problem is its also the ideal role for ogletree in this defense. so what im getting at is the two of them together is not a good duo and one will end up needing to go and its not going to be ogletree

We don't care who the better pound-for-pound player is. We need the better player period. The Rams chose Ogletree when they gave him the huge extension. They also made him the defensive play-caller. Ogletree is the guy. We're going to need a stouter LB to pair with him. Barron is a good WLB. But he's not a great fit next to Ogletree in a 3-4. I hoped he could pull it off, but the 2017 season shows he could not.

Ogletree does miss tackles. It's frustrating. But Barron was the guy who had the big issue with missing assignments, especially in the running game. That's not surprising considering he was a safety for most of his life.
