But we’re not putting him on any other team without AD. We’re putting him on our team with AD, so....

My observation was that Floyd was consistently exerting a lot of physical pressure against the blockers and closing the qb pocket even when he didn't get the sack. (Recall that the Rams have other guys who get sacks too given the opportunity.) Floyd was also maybe the biggest factor in turning our run defense around. Not just an edge rusher but a huge physical presence all around.

Personally I view this as an essential signing. If we spent too much, that's too bad.

I'm good with this.

We've seen these deals before. At first they look exorbitant. Once we see the actual numbers, things settle down a bit.

Which also says you don't really need to pay a guy top 10-12 money as an edge rusher behind him. We're paying him franchise tag numbers. Who a week ago would have been happy with that thought?
A year from now when the next group of guys get "overpaid" no one here will care too much about what Floyd is making. It'll look like a bargain.

So what should the Rams do at EDGE? Not pay anyone because AD is the GOAT? Come on.

We don't really know what the specifics are. There could be some favourable language in it. Can't we just be happy we got him back and wait for the contract details. Yes if it's just straight it's an over pay however that said look what Fowler got for his sacks and he does not play the run even close to Floyd.

What other options are out there that are cheaper? Floyd played well and got paid.

Contracts can be re-structured to signing bonus and not affect the cap if needed. Let the guy get his money.

Floyd can rush the passer and was one of the top olb in stopping the run...its not just pass rushing we are paying for. I sure it is probably low guarantees and maybe incentive based.

Glad to have him back. Don't judge to much until you know the full details. Rams paid premium price for an olb they KNEW fit perfectly into their system and an outside olb would count against their comp formula

We are in a win now mode. AD and Stafford have maybe a three year window. Floyd played 90 percent of the snaps last year. Highest of the front seven. Higher than AD. Obviously Rams valued his play beyond sacks. Losing Floyd would have left a big hole. Obviously they feel Lewis is not ready to fill that hole. JJ may have been better at his position than Floyd but the drop off is not nearly as steep. People can say this was an overpay but it really depends on context. Compared to sack specialist? Yes. Comparing to what he fills for a team that is in the championship hunt then not so much.

Look at Robert Woods. IMO a fairly good comp to Floyd in terms of ranking at their position. Woods is currently the 10th highest paid WR after getting ext last September. That number is going to drop yet again with current FA. Tasty bargain.

I don't get the hand wringing over this stuff.

Floyd had 10.5 sacks but 19 QB hits too. So he was close for quite a few more. He was also a force in Run D. His lanky build makes QBs have to change trajectory and passed also. I noticed that he may not show up on the stat sheet every game, but he shows up on a lot of plays and makes stat-less plays.

Exactly Floyd contract ranks only 8th highest amount olb in a year he will be outside the top 10

Thus we should then dump
the other 11 guys who were also "non existent" against GB.

And imagine you could add a reclamation payday project like Clowney or a ring chaser like a Von Miller ....Miller would be deadly now on this defense u could have my grandparents playing corner and we would be killer.

Here's the thing.....

Floyd's play as of last year was deserving of this kind of money.....

There are those in here (myself included) that are concerned his play was mainly due to the AD effect (see D. Fowler) as Floyd was mainly a bust before playing with AD and therefore we could have got someone else cheaper to come in and do the same....The FO obviously felt different...time will tell.
