Chiefs' Kareem Hunt seen shoving woman in video of February incident

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is seen shoving and kicking a woman in a video of a February incident released by TMZ on Friday.

In the video of the incident, which had been previously reported by multiple outlets, Hunt and the woman trade words in a hallway and are separated by several people on multiple occasions. Hunt pushes the woman, who responds by hitting him in the face. Two men escort Hunt down a hallway before he charges out, colliding with a man who then knocks the woman over. Hunt also kicks the woman in the leg.

Police were called to the scene, a Cleveland hotel where Hunt had an apartment, but no arrests were made or charges filed. TMZ reports that prosecutors had access to the hotel surveillance video.

Through body-cam footage obtained by TMZ, the woman and witnesses gave differing accounts of what escalated the incident. She told police that she wouldn't have sex with one of the men with Hunt, while they said she called him the N-word after being asked to leave Hunt's hotel room.

In August, Hunt addressed reports of both the February incident and another in which he was accused of punching a man. The running back said he had "learned from it" and was focused on football.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt also addressed the player's character at that time.

"Kareem is a young man, second year in the league, obviously had a very big year on the field last year," Clark Hunt said. "I'm sure he learned some lessons this offseason and hopefully won't be in those kind of situations in the future."

Clark Hunt said in August that he didn't expect the running back to be disciplined by the NFL.

In June, coach Andy Reid said he had spoken with Kareem Hunt after the second incident but declined to specifically address either situation.

If the league office, which surely knew about the incident, knew about the video and did nothing to Hunt, that could spark a firestorm of criticism. If the league office didn’t know about the video, there could still be a firestorm.

Basically, the league either saw the video and did nothing (which isn’t good) or the league didn’t see the video because it failed to take steps to obtain it, thereby learning nothing from the Ray Rice fiasco (which isn’t good).

The question then becomes whether the NFL will try to downplay the incident, if for no reason other than to keep the story from developing to the point where questions about whether the league saw the video and/or whether the league should have seen the video are asked.

Shoot, the NFL should issue crisis handling Mad-libs (link here) press releases. Here, something like this:

Today we have claimed the rights to LB Reuben Foster. The Redskins NFL fully understands the severity of the recent allegations made against Reuben Kareem. If true, you can be sure these allegations are nothing our organization would ever condone. Let me be clear, Reuben Kareem will have to go through numerous steps including the full legal process, an investigation and potential discipline from the NFL, as well as meetings with counselors associated with the his team before he will ever have the opportunity to wear the Burgundy Red and Gold as a player. That being said, we decided to investigate the situation with Reuben Kareem further by claiming his rights after candid conversations with a number of his ex-Alabama teammates and current Redskins Chiefs players who were overwhelmingly supportive of us taking this chance. Nothing is promised to Reuben Kareem, but we are hopeful being around so many of his former teammates and friends will eventually provide him with the best possible environment to succeed both personally and professionally.

if the bitch hit him first wouldn't it be self defense?

this is old news.

.
Not necessarily. You can only claim self defense if it's in the very act of "defending" yourself. The key word being "defending".

Here's an example. A guy throws a punch at you. You block it and hit him back with one punch. The guy falls to the ground (at this point, that's self-defense). But, then you jump on top of the guy, and start throwing punches. At that point when you jumped on him, it's no longer self defense. You would now be considered the attacker since at that moment you were no longer defending yourself (i.e. you could have walked away, but chose to attack instead). It's a fine line between self defense and assult. Just becuase someone attacks you first does not give you the right to beat the hell out of them for as long as you want.

Watching this video, Hunt was not under any threat in the hallway. Even if the girl hit him or others in the room prior, in the hallway they were just standing there at first. Then, Hunt starts a variety of assults. And thus, Hunt cannot claim self defense. He became the attacker!

I hope I'm making sense here for everyone.

yeah, i probably should have used blue font.

but i disagree about leaving the guy on the ground after one punch. what if he gets back up and tries to attack you again? better to make sure he stays down so you truly are safe.

.

Well, there goes my fantasy season.

I've got Hunt and Melvin Gordon.

But seriously, I'm not defending his actions in any way, because frankly, a man should never hit a woman. This is the kind of dumb shit that happens when you have people getting wasted. Nothing good ever comes from it.

But I'd be curious to see/hear the police's perspective because back when this happened no charges were made; the girl who got kicked out of Hunt's room apparently was acting crazy with the police and called Hunt the n word. Again, not condoning his actions in any way, but there's something odd about all of this...Very curious to see what the NFL does in response.

This dude is a piece of work. I can’t believe the team hid this under the rug and didn’t think it would ever come to light.

This is a black eye on the Chiefs, and the police who didn’t arrest Hunt. I hope they all go down in flames.

It's a judgment call with every situation. But, the very second you are no longer "defending" yourself, it's not self defense. You can disagree, but that's how the law works.

I picked up Spencer Ware on Wednesday for handcuff purposes (I had already lost out on Malcom Brown).

He joins Todd Gurley and James Conner. (y)

...then the question is why did the team (& nfl) "do" nothing. This fully reaks like a cover-up! It's an obvious domestic violence issue that had no consequences. Why was Hunt excused "back then"? I think this may shake out really bad for the NFL and Goodell.

probably because the police interviewed everyone at the scene and determined hunt had no case to answer.

foster got arrested. the police let hunt walk.

In Domestic Violence situations, someone will usually get taken in. It's not a situation where people can be counted on to go their own separate ways.

It's not really "domestic" violence since it wasn't his gf or wife.

It's always interesting to read what the fans of the team involved are saying. :sneaky:

Kareem Hunt seen shoving woman in video of February incident

Well that's not good
-------------
I think its safe to assume most NFL players are women beaters.

So we have a woman beater and a pregnant woman choker on our offense. What does Mahomes do, eat babies? Does Travis Kelce worship demons?
------------
The bitch was out of control. Everyone at the party backed up Hunt's story. We ALL knew this happened. There was a thread about it.
------------
Yeah, but the video coming out now wont be able to be ignored. Public outcry
----------
Yeah he's toast. None of it is good but when he goes in and the end and kicks her that's just going to seal the deal for him.
---------
Considering all the bullshit Zeke Elliott went through with no evidence whatsoever, I expect the NFL to f... Hunt six ways from sideways over this.

I guess on-field wise, the only positive is that with the appeals system being what it is and all that, he likely wouldn't face any punishment until next season.
-------------
Well bye...
------------
This is a bullshit narrative. She was a violent drunken idiot who got what she had coming.
----------
Video is what'll get ya; NFL is gonna protect the shield...
----------
But, the video ain’t good. The NFL is going to act.
----------
Really not good.

1. Unlike tyreek, chiefs can't claim they were working with a reformed man
2. Not hunts first incident. He punched a guy in Ohio too.

I don't know if the Chiefs can squirm from this one.
-----------
If a woman wants to get up in a guy's face and shove him in the face, then she deserves whatever happens.
----------
Now that there's video of it, there will be a suspension. I'm hoping that it will not be for the rest of the season.
-----------
Now that it's all on video for the world to see, the NFL will have to step up and make an example out of him through public pressure.
------------
Unacceptable.

Hunt needs to be suspended or else it will ruin the culture of the locker room.
------------
Tyreek Texts Hunt "Dumbass"
-----------
Video changes the game. He's getting at least 4 games is my guess.

Holy shit this is going to be a powder keg. Still no word from the Chiefs or NFL then? Wow.

This is stupidly bad. If the team and NFL knew about/have seen this video this should cost Goodell his job and result in a huge fine and sanctions on the Chiefs.

Remember when the Rice video surfaced? The NFL, meaning RG, were adamant about how they were going to change how they handled these kinds of cases.

Just a fucked up situation all around.

It's a judgment call with every situation. But, the very second you are no longer "defending" yourself, it's not self defense. You can disagree, but that's how the law works.

It varies from state to state and even place to place. Many years ago, I won't go into details, I had someone take a swing at me and miss because I was able to dodge the punch, and my counter punch broke his jaw. I got in trouble with the law and got an assault charge put on me that I paid a fine for and I had to settle with him financially. By the way it happened in a suburb of CLE where I am originally from.

Here in Florida we have the "Stand Your Ground" law, which is a truly and completely foolish thing. If you "feel that your life is in danger" you can shoot someone. Yes you read that correctly, your feelings, or fears, warranted or not allow you to pull out a gun and use deadly force. This video is a good example of how bad of a law this is. Had this hot mess occurred in Florida and the woman pulled out a gun and shot him and his friend in the head she probably wouldn't even go to trial.
