Not necessarily. You can only claim self defense if it's in the very act of "defending" yourself. The key word being "defending".

Here's an example. A guy throws a punch at you. You block it and hit him back with one punch. The guy falls to the ground (at this point, that's self-defense). But, then you jump on top of the guy, and start throwing punches. At that point when you jumped on him, it's no longer self defense. You would now be considered the attacker since at that moment you were no longer defending yourself (i.e. you could have walked away, but chose to attack instead). It's a fine line between self defense and assult. Just becuase someone attacks you first does not give you the right to beat the hell out of them for as long as you want.

Watching this video, Hunt was not under any threat in the hallway. Even if the girl hit him or others in the room prior, in the hallway they were just standing there at first. Then, Hunt starts a variety of assults. And thus, Hunt cannot claim self defense. He became the attacker!

I hope I'm making sense here for everyone.

Not trying to be a smart ass.. but is this your reasoning or an actual legal definition? Because it seems kind of like it has holes in it - If I'm defending myself but I know the dude is going to get right back up and kill me after my one punch - then it seems like the defending is not really done as of yet.

So if this was Toddy Gurley everyone's reaction would be the same?

Not saying he doesn't deserve suspension - just saying....

The bitch was out of control. Everyone at the party backed up Hunt's story. We ALL knew this happened. There was a thread about it.
Oh, that clears it up.

I mean, there was a thread about it....

I watched the Video. Hunt kept going after her. And the final kick looks like it was to the ribs as she as on the floor. It' not good for him, the Chiefs or the NFL. They will have a hard time explaining why they did not ask about video, or if they did, why no punishment.

"Everyone at the party backed up Hunt's story."

.

I just saw the video.

Fuck me. What the fuck has the world come to if he even gets fined for that. He never hit her. One shove. He ran into a guy which knocked her over. And a little kick. I wouldn't even call it a kick. I thought i was gonna see some bad shit.

If she called him a N****r he had every right to lose his shit. I can't see him getting suspended for that.

It's not even in the same ball park as ray rice. Not even the same universe.

Same as Reuben Foster? After all, he swatted a cell phone out of a women's hand and supposedly slapped her. At what point do YOU draw the line. So, if a black man calls me "cracker" I have the right to go after him?

I don't know. I was only commenting on the video and people's reaction to it.

Well, I totally agree with you! The point I was making is when the "defending" ends. I wrote out one example just to get the concept across. But, every instance is different.

The question is, "at what point is the defending done."

In your example, it may be self defense to hit the guy a few times after he's on the ground. But, once the guy can obviously no longer be a threat, anything after that is not self defense.

It's definitely not the fight of the century, but Hunt should not have laid one finger on her and he did more than that.

This is real simple folks. Don't punch them, Kick them in the knee. They can't get back up with a broken knee. 12 pounds of pressure is all it takes.

How does this keep happening ?

This is not as bad as the ray rice video but these guys have to learn how to not get in these situations . Your a millionaire and a professional athlete.

HOWEVER, this is good for the rams and makes me appreciate our young guys even more .

Ps my fantasy team is gonna take a hit . My team is all rams and chiefs lol

yeah but the police came and heard everyone's side of the story and no charges were laid. if there were any injuries don't you think the police would have acted accordingly? it's not like it was in kc. it was in cleveland.

.

Here’s the issue.

Criminal assault involves injury. That didn’t happen.

However, post Ray Rice, simply the act is enough for the NFL. He pushed her, violently pursued her while being restrained and kicked her.

It’s not about charges.
