Will someone post up a gif with Matt Dillon saying "retards" in There's Something About Mary. You know, with the big fake front teeth.

PC is for weak little babies. Some words you can say though that doesn't make sense to me. Some disabilities still seem ok to laugh at for some strange reason. I have a son with Tourettes Syndrome but it seems fine for people to say, " What is wrong with you dude? You got Tourettes or something?" I'm not too sensitive to feel hurt and think the person saying it is making fun of my son but it just puzzles me that a pass is given for some things. And it is way over the top to fire someone for it, unless, they are making fun of someone with the actual disorder or disability you utter. How did so many people get so soft????

It takes very little effort to not use a word that mocks and affects people with a disability. It's a crappy stance for Janoris to double down on.

Yeah. As I’ve mentioned in the past, my son is high-functioning autistic. He really struggled with it in middle school and was called that word. My sister has pretty severe dyslexia and auditory processing disorder and was called that as well.

The word hurts. Just because it doesn’t hurt YOU doesn’t mean it isn’t hurtful.

I find whenever we have a thread go off the rails, it’s invariably someone trying to force change on others so that they can say hurtful with impunity. Why? Why can’t we just talk football and treat our fellow human beings with dignity and respect?

Where is the virtue in defending a slur? Where’s the win? Is it everyone becoming so desensitized to the pain of others that we lose our humanity?

I’m not about that.

Dang shame that we’re still having different variations of the same argument for more than 150 years. I’m just disappointed.

The irony here is that Matt Dillon’s character was a massive dumbass, and one too stupid to realize how outdated And offensive the word “retard” is.

If growing in humanity makes me soft, the I’ll be soft.

If embracing the teachings and philosophies of Social Justice Warriors like MLK, Gandhi and so many others makes me soft, then I’ll be soft.

It still boils down to someone saying, “no one should take offense because *I* don’t take offense.” The lowest common denominator of that amounts to a complete abandonment of our humanity.

I’ll never understand the virtue of defending being less kind to a fellow human being.

At what point do we aspire to lift up everyone such that everyone can exist with humanity and dignity?

Or is the only virtue to devolve society into an emotional Thunderdome?

We either love one another and our actions signify that or we don’t. It’s really as simple as that.

IMO posters are confusing PC (which I don't agree with) and being decent and kind humans.

But that said I think some people here in this conversation might not be, I don't know.

I grew up in a very diverse area. Crazy diverse. White. black, brown, yellow and everything else anyone could call it.

The N-Word used to be common, along with plenty of other words that are slurs. When I was young it (and others) got used all the time, as in constantly, to describe black people. So were several slurs to deride gay men and women (thou doth protest to much comes to mind). And Italians were called dagos, WOP's and so on. Jews called kikes and hebes. Mexicans and other Latins called Spics. In fact growing up some people used to play a game called "Brick the Spic" where they would drive around and throw bricks out of a car window at Hispanics.Anyone of Asian decent was called a slope or chink.

This has NOTHING to do with being "soft", or "PC", or a "SJW" or a "crybaby". Nothing at all.

It has to do with words a fucking grown man used to demean and diminish. He's 31 not 10. This was not a grade school argument.

Jenkins used the word retard as a pejorative.......link here to help the conversation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pejorative

There are metric fucktons of other words he could have used. He could have called this asshole an asshole, a fucking asshole, a piece of shit or any one of hundreds of other words to put the guy in his place. Instead he made a bad choice. It would have been easier to say "bad choice of words I'm sorry". But he didn't.

All he had to do way say "whoops my bad, sorry I was angry and I screwed up". Instead he pushed it off to his "culture" which was dumb as fuck because the fact is this word has been used by every culture and race. Just like slurs have been used by every culture and race. The culture when I was growing up would have tossed the N-word and more at Janoris daily. Or to call a friend of mine with the last name Rizzo a dago or wop? Or call me a Jewish slur since my mother was Jewish.

Would it have been OK to him to simply say "well that's how we are in my neighborhood" while I called him something while I reminded him of things from my neighborhood?

black.
Dago.
WOP.
Kike.
Retard.
Spic.
Slope.
Towelhead.
Camel Jockey.
Sand black.
Fucktard.
Spaz.

And the list goes on.

Any end to this?

Does anyone want to see this CONTINUE in our society? In our great nation?

Is there a place for this anymore?

There isn't.

Jesus christ, bunch of grown ass men and we're arguing over words? Some people need to understand the difference bw connotation and denotation.

Les, all those derogatory words have never been used EVER to mean anything other than incensitive slurs. The word retard, in today's culture, means multiple different things, and it didnt start out as a derogatory word. Its was a clinical diagnosis. Which yes, can be used as an insensitive slur. Yet only if used in the LITERAL (denotation) sense. If I said someone's sweater was "retarded", doesn't make much sense if you look at the LITERAL definition. But connotation is everything. As well as intent. I understand if you dont want to use the word. But to sit here and complain about it, while in the same complaint curse enough that might....wait for it...actually offend others...is stupid. Should I say stupid? I mean there are people out there who struggle with lower IQ's? See where this is going?

Someone somewhere is always going to be offended by something. I understand if you have someone in your family or know someone who is mentally handicapped and you personally dont want to use the word, but you cant control the language people are going to use and you cant force your narrowly preceived view of the word as the standard meaning. If that's what you want, Canada is your place to go.

I'm telling you, if we're not careful social media will be the downfall of our society.

Pretty sure we are already there.
It’s the SJWs who have no fucking life, and therefore want to control those that do. Simple really.

Had to laugh (in a good way) at @dieterbrock’s “it’s tough for us old guys- 30 ’s and 40’s”. In a good way buddy.
Try being in your 70’s, and keeping up with this mind numbing horseshit.
It is amusing though.
