Wow.

Just wow.

You applaud that?

Again..........wow.

You're really getting your panties in a wad over this. "Mental retardation" is a perfectly acceptable medical term. Just because people use "retard" as an insult to people without disabilities doesn't mean it needs to be treated like the freaking N-word.

For example, say you're moving furniture with your friends. One of them is just standing around and says they can't help and you respond, "Are you a cripple or something?". There is no negative connotation towards physically disabled people in that statement. You're simply implying that your friend's laziness is having the same effect as being physically disabled. The same applies to using the word "retard" in that scenario.

Its definitely not smart.
However. It's still just name calling. (Still ill advised and insensitive)
People are acting like he beat his kids and girlfriend. He's a young man with maturity issues.

I dont think Jenkins will every be accused of being a genius.

He's 31.

Whats wrong with the word Retard?
Screenshot_1.jpg

The problem, as I see it, is that MOST of us grew up using that word 1,000 times a day when we were kids. To describe a multitude of things. Grounded? That's retarded. Test today? That's retarded. Friend wore a stupid shirt? He's retarded. Now, unfortunately, it's offensive because of the culture we live in. If someone has a handicapped child, then the word is no longer acceptable in any manner. It's just the way it is. I don't agree with it, and I'll continue to use it freely. But it is what it is. I'm just gonna do me regardless. As will most everyone else.

I was playing devils advocate and I 100% agree with you. I use it still and will continue to do so because lets face it. Today's culture is offensive as whole, and I wont adhere to the whack jobs that run our (social) media / culture guidelines.

I need an insult rating system to keep up in this thread.

I would prefer a color based system from Green - being mild to innocuous insult to Red being spicy to hair-raising.

I mean seriously, is it the insult or the semantics. Like it wouldn’t have been such a big deal if he had referred to the reporter as “doppy” ?

Like nobody would get all bent outta shape had he called a reporter a Jive Turkey.

I get it, words that we used as kids back in the 80’s are now verboten. Sorry, some of us old timers (30’s and 40’s) may slip up from time to time and let fly the dreaded word! Retarded

Back to the subject at hand though, I don't see how this warrants him losing his job. I mean, I *do* see why, but I don't agree with it. You get 10,000 useless idiots on Twitter calling for your job, and you're likely losing your job. They'll go after your sponsors, they'll go after the Organization, they'll go stand around like lemmings in front of the stadium with signs ... whatever it takes to punish you for being an imperfect human being.

That's where we are.

Twitter. What a useless platform entirely. Totally useless.

I'm telling you, if we're not careful social media will be the downfall of our society.

Will someone post up a gif with Matt Dillon saying "retards" in There's Something About Mary. You know, with the big fake front teeth.

I think that was before his fake teeth.

Dillon is amazingly funny in that movie.

I'm offended at the very site of 9er fans, but so far, society hasn't caught up to help me out on that one. The plus side is; in the meantime I can freely call someone who lacks decent taste a 9er. Good burns are shortlived in today's world.

There you have it. Jack Rabbit was being a 9er. Unless you're wanting to be dismissed: Don't be a 9er on the clock at your place of employment.
Disney + decided to put a cover their ass disclaimer at the beginning of several older films on their platform as an alternative to going down the early 20th century book burning route. It says: "This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions."
Then certain advocacy groups started complaining about the films they did not put the disclaimer on (such as Aladdin and how it portrayed Middle Eastern and Arab Culture).
Unfortunately, no matter what you do or how hard you try, you're going to offend somebody.

My Elementary school back in the 70's was called the Nikiski Roughnecks. We smoked everyone in Basketball and wrestling. Half the kid's dads were like mine and worked in the oil platforms in the inlet. They were "roughnecks". Then someone from out of state moves in and spreads a petition to change the school's mascot because its the same name as a trash can company. The petition passed. All that history ended. The Nikiski Nights didn't beat anybody.

To the graduating class of Dartmouth College President Eisenhower cried: “Don’t join the book burners! … Don’t be afraid to go to the library and read every book so long as that document does not offend our own ideas of decency—that should be the only censorship.”
