The NFL is tough . Players are one play away from a career ending injury. Quick, heartless financial decisions are made to cut someone that has been a valued/loyal member of the "family" for years. While this can also happen in the general business world its much quicker and more dramatic in the NFL.
The Rams are in need of quality depth in most positions and need a new starter at ILB, OC. DT and EDGE. With that said - every player has to be evaluated on the cost/benefit of retention. Looking at Spotrac the following players look to be candidates in leveling their cost when compared to their benefit:
Michael Brockers - $11m/$750k dead cap
Marcus Peters - $9m/$0 dead cap
Blake Countess - $2m/$0 dead cap
Troy Hill - $2m/$0 dead cap
At the risk of sounding heartless, I wonder what the Rams could do in the 2nd wave of FA with the $23m aligned with these players. A hypothetical scenario (which may already be too late by this post time):
Bryce Callahan/CB - $7m
Zach Brown/ILB - $7m
Danny Shelton/NT - $5m
CJ Anderson/RB - $4m
Thoughts?
