Not saying there aren't issues, but everything the defense is doing is bland, least hoping that's part of it.

Dollar says he is the answer to the one corner short problem
Extra work: Rams offensive lineman Bobby Evans took time after Wednesday's practice to receive pointers from Austin Corbett and Joe Noteboom.
If you have a group of guys who really want to be good, it will work out.
Maybe our line starts slow, but it will not finish slow as long as they have
the dedication to put in the extra work.

RE: the defense, remember this is a new scheme. Players never play fast when a new scheme is installed. Without seeing how it's being played you can't really pass judgments. Staley's zone was drop, read, and cover (man). It appeared in that first game that Morris tried to play it that way, but his second and third-string CBs are slow so they got burned when the receiver carried it deep.
This scrimmage sounded like cover 1 which would seem to me Morris wanting to see how his starters look as a coverage option. The last time the Rams played a cover 1 was probably under Phillips and he didn't use it as much as he would normally do because of Peters and NRC constantly going rogue and dropping coverage and his #2 was Hill who is strictly a zone coverage CB, i.e. drop, read, react. This is the time coaches experiment. It sounds like Morris had Ramsey dropping into Star and Long covering on the boundary. Long really isn't a SCB. That is why I think Morris wanted Hall who is a SCB. With Rochell on the rise, it gives Morris another option. He could drop Williams into the Star and play Long or Rochell outside.
Regardless I'm not overly concerned because coverage combinations are being tried out. Morris is praising Long's practices and work ethic. Burgess has made some mistakes in coverages but that is to be expected. Burgess is a second year player but because of Covid last year and his injury, Terrell is behind where a second year guy would normally be.

FYI in that clip "dime alert" note how Havenstein missed his block and is chasing (not surprising)....those were Goff killers....but with Stafford's quicker passing Rob gets away with it. Sorry but for the money he makes, Rob is strictly a mediocre RT as he misses more than his share of blocks. He simply can't handle speed. This is why I'm not worried about the OL as long as the interior holds up Stafford should have time to throw and with Blythe gone that shouldn't be a big issue.

The Stafford picks aren't a concern at the moment. A few picks off tips etc. Plus trying to test new plays etc.
He's a vet so:
a) You know what you are getting out of him.
b) He knows how to play ball security come go time.
The concern is learning the new system though. You want him to have some real crisp practices in the final weeks leading to the regular season. So they will really need to start tightening the screws next week.
The play of Rochell is an excellent thing to hear. We really need the kid to step up with the Long jr. concerns.
My remaining top concerns about this team are as follows:
1. Allen - Not convinced till I see the huge leap in a real game. Keeping an eye on Meredith and Coleman in preseason. Meredith is a super talented blocker but Coleman has the reps at center.
2. 2nd TE - Some of you don't realize how critical our TE's are in our run game and also our pass game. They are critical. Mcvay does a whole lot with his TE's in the blocking game. A few missed blocks can be the difference in a game especially early on vs a physical team like da Bears.
3. Ernest Jones - Lots of hype with Jones in training camp etc. When I rewatch the game film vs the Chargers he was badly beat on a quick move pass for a big gain. He also was drowned out in the run game several times. Add this to his lack of athleticism to get to the edge and there is a lot of weakness to take advantage of. I know a lot of you are high on him and he has had some picks in training camp. Regular season - real time games - vs elite players and schemes are much different. I'm hoping for the best but not sure he's a lock to be a player just yet at the NFL level based on what he showed vs the Chargers, and virtually every scouting report on him. I hope Kiser and Howard get the starts.
My top 3 positives:
1) Mcvay recognized the Evans problem. I pointed this out last year and when looking at the Green Bay game this should have been a red flag. Better late than never though.
2) Deep game - The additions of Stafford, Jackson, and even options with Jefferson (year 2), Tutu and Harris should really open the offense up. Not that I think the Tutu pick at that spot was wise in any way, but the added deep threat ability should stretch defenses and be a net overall gain for our offense.
3) Rookie Watch - Big potential team impact if Harris, Rochell or Meredith take off.

I think we get it. You don’t like Hav. But the incessant narrative is nauseating. And to add some fire to your fury Hav is by all measurements a good ( not great) starting NFL RT.

Yeah I was wondering if anyone focused on him. After having watched Cowboys rook Micah Parsons, our man looked a little smallish and inconsequential out there. He's got the right stuff mentally though, so I'm hoping he develops into a beastly tackling machine.

Yes but I also read he wasn’t out in 7s or 11s, he wasn’t out in coverage. He was getting work just not scrimmaging. Im pretty sure I was the one who first posted that tweet.
