@Merlin gets his wish. Keep a close eye on your boy Edwards.

Hope Edwards is up to speed on his blocking assignment. If he is then he has a good chance to be serviceable in his first start and keep getting better. The rest of the offensive line has to step up. The run blocking was better last week and I hope McVay mixes things up to help the offensive line.
The room for improvement is the key for me. At least now we'll have that. I do anticipate some mistakes but we've had those all year anyway.

If Edwards sucks, well, I'm going to need to disappear for a while. :p

They might cut him this year once Corbett gets up to speed and if Edwards shows well. I believe in Edwards, his stock dropped because of a shoulder injury that he kept playing through. Still needs to add strength, but has good feet and his pass blocking should be solid.

I'm hoping he's the starting left guard for the next dozen years.

The way you talk about Edwards makes him sound like a young Saffold.

Let's hope so!

There's no reason to think Edwards won't play well. Whitworth will be whispering sweet nothings to him all game about responsibilities and assignments. He just needs to play. I have to believe he can see the field, and has a better feel for the game, than Demby.

He is obviously not as strong as Saffold yet, but being a former QB in High School and Tight End in college, my hope is, his feet will enable him to pass block efficiently and keep Goff upright. Overall, it should be a huge upgrade over Demby.

Six games into his career might be a tad early to give up on a 3rd rounder. Wait, Check that, one pre-season might be too early to call him a miss.

Can ya give him a minute? lol

There is a difference between looking like a third round rookie and looking as bad as Evans did. And even if he needs some time, if you pick a guy in the third round he should at least be able to contribute in some capacity in their first year, like being a backup if the need happens. Instead the Rams are starting a later pick and trading for other options. It's not to tough to get a read on.

I think they took a shot on Evans for his feet and in the hopes they could coach him up into their next LT. And tbh the fact that he's not ready yet doesn't concern me too much. As long as he loves the game and has been working hard to improve there is plenty of time for him to come around.

Snead's OL picks over the course of his tenure are rather hideous btw. Off the top of my head here Havenstein is his one big hit, and ironically he has struggled this season. But I do think Big Rob is a hard worker who will keep improving in his mechanics and is going to start for us regardless into the future even if it's at RG.

Barring a stretch of big improvement by Allen the Rams are going to draft a Center this offseason. Allen did not have enough competition. Not sure Corbett is good enough to be that competition at the pivot either. And the position is usually one where you can get good starters outside the early group.

Re: Edwards I think he is going to be a godsend for this line. If not, well, this is going to be a rough remainder of the schedule. We need him to come in and settle things down.

I hope you are correct. For a third round pick Evan's has been disappointing IMO. I hate to take a huge project that high. When you see other teams plugging in backups on the line and playing well, then the Rams struggle to find one good backup or even a few good starters, it's very discouraging. San Francisco had two backup tackles, Tampa Bay had a backup guard, ditto Cleveland. It was tough to tell which were the backups. Not so with the Rams and Demby, plus a bad Center that they were all in on for a year. I was banging the table for an Olineman in round 1 or 2 last April. I could see the need despite the Coach speak. It's frustrating. At least Noteboom seemed to be making some progress. But as we are seeing it is difficult to win with a bad OLine.

I hope Edwards can shore up Noteboom's spot but that won't really change things much. It gets Demby out of there but Allen, and Blythe are still the same.

Evans clearly isn't ready. He was a college OT, so it's worth waiting and seeing what he might be able to do.

Really good at Oklahoma too and their Offensive Lines are well coached and Evans played both RT & LT so hopefully the light comes on next year.

Blythe can be serviceable if the rest of the interior is holding up. It's about being the sum of its parts. We might see Corbett sooner or later if Allen can't get it together.

You can hide behind me if your having issues finding a spot;)

I truly believe that the over 6-6 David Edwards will have a decent first time outing event. He may not be overly effective in the running game but I expect a smooth general overall performance. Rookie Edwards is getting something that OT Joe Noteboom did not get in his rookie season .....a chance to start a game playing out of his natural position @ LG.

If DE is satisfactory in his first start I would let him continue to get regular season snaps as much as possible to put him ahead of the curve for whatever awaits him in 2020 ?? LT, RT or LG never know. But If Havenstein can not get his pass blocking skills up to par with 2017/2018 then big Rob needs some time out of the starting lineup & in session @ Kromer's reeducation camp with Jamil Demby.

As far as Bobby Evans goes he looked to have had a big issue with converting & reaching the standard of what it takes to be an effective NFL OL'er. Evans was an OT for 3 seasons & came out early. From what I have seen from him in preseason is he is a RT period.

Falcons Jack Crawford & Grady Jarrett are two stout DT's & should be a good measure enough to gage Edwards grit.

I sure hope so.

I hate to be a downer, but our oline woes have cursed us for years.
The past 2 years have been wonderful to witness. It's very troublesome to see us regress.

I still have nightmares over the Rams ghosts of OL'er past i.e.....Grant Williams, Hank Fraley, Adam Goldberg, Davin Joseph, Claude Terrell, Alex Barron, Andrew Donnal, Chris Williams, Brett Romberg & Scott Wells:hellno:

Yeah.
That's just the short list.

As soon as I heard Kromer mention liking Corbett as a center before the draft, I was thinking the same thing. But how long would it take him to learn the position in this offense?

I'm very encouraged about Edwards starting.

I think he holds up well. I think he'll get beat a few times as Grady Jarrett is no joke, but he'll be an immediate upgrade over Demby.

Well, a couple of things are for sure.

All eyes will be on Edwards on O and on Ramsey on D. Lol.

I think he'll do better on some of the reach blocks where Boom really struggled. He's just bigger and rangier so might be able to caveman his way to some wins like Hav did in his rook year. But yeah I think you might well be right that it might not change too much.

I am just hoping that the subbing for injury (i.e. Demby) on top of the young players was a bit too much. And that Edwards can reverse that a bit. Just don't turnstile the rushers that's all I ask. Give our QB a chance and we'll be in this game.

Expectations...

But that is my point. You are not even giving him the first year. You are giving him 6 games (In which he hasn't played). Basically, what I am reading is that you think if a guy is drafted, and he isn't AT LEAST the first guy off the bench, immediately, he is a wasted draft pick. Sorry, I just completely disagree with that.

And yes, it is tough to get a read on. You generally can't judge a draft for 3 years, right? No matter how much YOU want instant results, it is TOO EARLY to judge a guy after 6 games. Period. You wanting results faster doesn't change that.

(EDIT) P.S. I am assuming, based on your standard, that you ABSOLUTELY HATED Goff at this point in his career. Six games in and The #1 Overall Pick in the draft couldn't even get on the field. And, he looked bad in the pre-season. I can't imagine how big of a bust you must have thought he was.

.....Just hoping that Kromer/Dickerson can get Rookie 6-5/320 lbs Chandler Brewer up to NFL playing level to replace Jamil Demby as our swing OG Reserve!

I am thinking he should have passed Demby already. Maybe they are just trying to get their $$$ worth out of Demby ...I know they have some dead $$$ already involved from that release early last season.
