I was hoping for the best with Demby. Thought he might show something if given the chance, but it wasn't working. Good for them to take a shot here. I wonder where Corbett slots in after he gets up to speed. Could just be a super-sub. But one has to wonder if he replaces Brian Allen if Allen continues to struggle.
what has happened to Evans, the guard out of Oklahoma drafted in the 3rd round, i would think that drafted in the third he would be starter material, what happened/

Unlikely Corbett replaces Allen. Blythe would step in at Center and Corbett would play right guard. Blythe filled in well at Center last year, no reason to fix what's not broken.

Further it would be more difficult to place Corbett in a position to make calls at the line as he is new to the team.

Yes Allen would go to the bench to learn and get swole, but not be replaced by Corbett.

Maybe in the early going he will slot in as a guard, but Kromer said, when asked, that he liked Corbett’s ability to bend as a center. I’d be willing to bet that going forward the plan is to see if Corbett can handle Center. Allen isn’t playing well and I don’t see him improving. He has physical limitations.

Next year Allen will be battling Corbett for the starting center job.

Maybe I’m biased but I’ve never understood what Snead saw in Allen. I’m a PSU fan and watch a lot of Big Ten football. Allen has never stood out when I watched Michigan State play. Sure he is tough and intelligent, but it takes more than that to do the job.

Evans looked awful in Preseason games. I think he is another miss, which sucks for that high of a pick. I’m really questioning Kromer’s eye for talent. Allen is struggling, Eldrenkamp flopped, now Evans looks like he was drafted too high.

I was excited that for the first time since Martz/Vermiel that we had a staff that understood the importance of a good Oline. But they draft like they think they can find them in later rounds. That is old school thinking and in the age of college spread offenses it is more difficult than ever to recognize talent at the Oline position. Andy Reid always got crushed by fans for using so many first round picks on the Oline, but he’s always had good ones with good depth and has always had a strong running game. Everything starts up front. I hope Snead, McVay, and Kromer have learned from their follies.

Six games into his career might be a tad early to give up on a 3rd rounder. Wait, Check that, one pre-season might be too early to call him a miss.

Can ya give him a minute? lol

He cant be worse then Demby. He cant. Right?
He wasn’t really better in preseason....lunging, missing, falling down etc.
But guys can improve obviously.
Cautiously optimistic.
The struggles of the line is forcing McVays hand with this move.
Week 9 start OL.....Whitworth/Edwards/Corbett/Blythe/Havenstein.......hang the “Do Not Blitz, Work In Progress” construction sign.

I think it is too early to give up any of these guys....Edwards, Evans, Brewer etc.
However, I think the Rams need to bring in guys to compete for spots this offseason. Trading for AC is a good start.
They need to look at a vet, low cost FA or two and at least one more draft pick.

How about a player for player trade; Williams for Cooks and Demby.

I am happy to hear that Edwards will be used at LG over Demby the Disaster (Whew). Although they were already struggling some, the offensive line play really dropped off against SF after Demby came in due to the Noteboom injury.

I know he is a rookie and O-linemen need time to develop but Evans' absence in all of this line shuffling has been very conspicuous to me as well. He is is potentially looking like a wasted 3rd rounder already. With all the o-line issues the Rams have had, I would have expected Evans to at least get consideration as potential solution especially since he was taken pretty high for an interior lineman. Instead the Rams have tried the Demby disaster, traded traded for Corbett, and are now inserting Edwards (a more natural tackle) in at LG instead of Evans who was drafted higher and more suited as an interior type player.

The Rams have had very good fortune in the 3rd round with players like Kupp, Johnson and Noteboom. Statistics show you can't hit on all of your 3rd rounders anyway, so unfortunately for the Ram's line maybe an Evans failure is just the fate of the number game.

I am glad some of you guys aren't working for our Front Office. LOL. If you are calling any of this years picks that are on the team wasted picks, then your expectations are out of alignment with reality.

We would all love for every pick to come in, Pro-Ready, but expecting that is just not realistic. Your expectations don't change reality.

Its still very difficult for me now to think that this Championship Rams team actually thought it was going to be fine in the OL unit .......when we had two OL'ers starting (one out of position) who had never started........ now in their 2nd seasons.......... & a first yr OL'er Jamil Demby who had never suited up for a regular season game as our 6th OL'er???:palm:

What was I thinking???:censored:

How could that plan end good?
Now that was one serious :poop: miscalculation by our top administration. :admin:
I know right!?!

I not only drank the Kool-Aid, I filled my bathtub up with it and was wallowing around in it!

And I don't even like Kool-Aid!

I bought it from start to finish.
I figured our Scouts had found some guys that had starter potential that were simply under coached in college and that Kromer would whip them up in the shape in a year.

But looking on the potential brightside;

We've been facing some awesome defensive lines lately which means they got a lot of tape to teach these guys. (let's hope these guys are quick learners)

We're still only 3 and 3 and still have a shot of whipping the Oline into shape for a playoff run.

Plus our defense should be immediately improved and they should be able to identify our main weaknesses this year for next season.
We *may* have seen the worst case scenario last week with that defensive line of San Francisco that seemed specifically built to counteract our top rated 2018 Oline.

Guys like Greco come to mind when we talk about people we see in preseason. Greco sat on our bench for 2 or 3 full seasons and everyone thought he was a bust. Well he went to the browns and was one of the better guards in the NFL While he played. So let's not write people off who haven't even seen a snap in a real game

Theres no way the rams arent talking about trent williams. The Mcvay connection, the dire need.

Whit was brought in when he was several years older than trent and is better at this point.

I was fine with the rams moving up to get a big time lineman in next years draft so use the necessary picks to land this guy.

We just made the defense a powerhouse and adding williams fixes our offense toot suite.

People who dont follow the rams will freak out and say they're writing checks they can't cash but brockers talib peters and whit wont be here next season and thats a lot of money. And at this point maybe the rams think Obo can take fowlers spot so more money there.

GET trent and start corbett at right guard or center
Obviously I'd love Trent Williams but we probably don't have the capital minus any players for him anymore. No way McVay will let Cooks go as some suggest.

I'm thinking and hoping maybe we get Edwards acclimated and by some Miracle we have Blythe be serviceable as last year before he got beat like a drum.

I'd be even open to bringing in Sully again for center. Our center is getting man handled as well like our guards are.

True. But Williams is a far superior player and most LT play till 36. I do not think you get him for a mere second.

Absolutely no way most LT's play until their 36 at a high level. Maybe a potential HOF and All Pro one but most don't see 36 in the league and if they do they are usually a shell of their former themselves.

Evans clearly isn't ready. He was a college OT, so it's worth waiting and seeing what he might be able to do.

The fact remains we will be replacing both OTs. Hav been a bust this season and then added has a weak RG paired w/ a shitty OC.
the truth sermon is we need a a new OL from OC > RT

They will have to move Hav/Jaws inside to guard eventually and employ a more athletic RT to take over his old chores.

I think they took a shot on Evans for his feet and in the hopes they could coach him up into their next LT. And tbh the fact that he's not ready yet doesn't concern me too much. As long as he loves the game and has been working hard to improve there is plenty of time for him to come around.

Snead's OL picks over the course of his tenure are rather hideous btw. Off the top of my head here Havenstein is his one big hit, and ironically he has struggled this season. But I do think Big Rob is a hard worker who will keep improving in his mechanics and is going to start for us regardless into the future even if it's at RG.

Barring a stretch of big improvement by Allen the Rams are going to draft a Center this offseason. Allen did not have enough competition. Not sure Corbett is good enough to be that competition at the pivot either. And the position is usually one where you can get good starters outside the early group.

Re: Edwards I think he is going to be a godsend for this line. If not, well, this is going to be a rough remainder of the schedule. We need him to come in and settle things down.

@Merlin gets his wish. Keep a close eye on your boy Edwards.

Hope Edwards is up to speed on his blocking assignment. If he is then he has a good chance to be serviceable in his first start and keep getting better. The rest of the offensive line has to step up. The run blocking was better last week and I hope McVay mixes things up to help the offensive line.
