surely Hekker could introduce him to the kicking guru coach he has used in the past to help out a bit

I suspect his placement on kickoffs was off, and that it affected our coverage game. Been a while since our coverage teams have struggled like that.

And I don't like his ball, the damn thing just moves all over the place. Didn't the Rams say he had a nice straight ball? WTF. Didn't see that at all today.

At the least have another tryout round.

On the one hand, I remember a story about how Kurt Warner was hyperventilating in his first huddle with the first team. Nerves happen. Things worked out. Ficken already beat out Roberto Aguayo, Dan Carpenter, Travis Coons, Andrew Franks, Garrett Hartley, Marshall Koehn, Younghoe Koo, Mike Meyer and Jason Myers to get here (https://www.profootballrumors.com/2017/12/rams-worked-out-10-kickers-to-replace-greg-zuerlein).

Down the freeway, the Chargers are already on their 4th kicker of the year and the one they used today got roasted on twitter for a real bad miss. If there was a quality guy out there, they would've stumbled on him by now, right?
We're dumpster diving at this point. Giving Bones a week to play psychologist might be our best shot.

On the other hand, if we're dumpster diving that far down, here's Justin Medlock's stats for the year https://www.cfl.ca/players/justin-medlock/149157/
UCLA grad, kicked a couple times in the Coliseum, had a cup of coffee with the Rams.
Granted, I have no idea what kicking is like up there.

It's amazing to me that there are only 30 odd guys in all the world who can consistently kick a football at the professional level.

It is was it is but I'm still amazed.

Medlock has been one of the best in the CFL and playing in Winnipeg has had to kick far in a lot of terrible weather.

I just don't see anyway you can stick with him... he looked mentally shaken and his ball striking was never solid.

This is an excellent post even though I disagree with it because some can look good before the bullets start flying....I used to inform the young troops all the time...You truly don't know how good of a shot you are until the target shoots back. In college I felt Ficken had a case of the yips, at least early on at Penn State and today, he looked like that same young kid. Now maybe you're right on point @TSFH Fan , however, I don't have the stomach or the patience and Fassel spoke about not having any haunting misses, well, now Ficken has two that should have been easy and one the Rams (51 yarder) did not want to trot him out there for and that is why, I want to go in another direction.

I'd give him one more week. It's tough to go out there in your first game in a long time. If he can't get it done, I bring Coons or Carpenter or another veteran back in for the playoffs.

Anybody see Dan Bailey today?

Ficken will be fine.

Rams just won the NFC West, and you’re seriously banging on a kicker in his first NFL game?

What the fuck is wrong with you guys?

My heart starts really ticking watching Fricken doing the kicking.

Any easy misses in the 49er game and he is gone.

Dan Bailey is a former All Pro kicker with one of the best kicking percentages in the NFL, I'll give him a pass and as soon as Sam Ficken accomplishes what Dan Bailey has, I will give him a pass too.

.

A miss is a miss dude, and way more unforgivable with a seasoned pro.

Did you really say that?

And, uh, how does Ficken do that exactly?

(Earn your pass).

TBF, it was silly back then because Greg was being screwed over by Fisher. He had a great start to his Rams career. Ficken's start was bad. But I'd give him another week.

Looks like the majority want him replaced.
Here a article with vet names and links.

Carpenter?
http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/11688/dan-carpenter

Coons?
http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/17130/travis-coons

Coons is kinda accurate but shorter range while Carpenter kicking in Buffalo not as accurate with more range. Not easy to find the right kicker at this point.

As soon as he makes some field goals plus extra points and kicks the ball out of the end zone....Look I'm all for giving somebody a chance, but there is so much on the line right now and again JMHO.

Man, Medlock was such a good kicker at UCLA. I still dont know how he never made it in the NFL. He never got much of a chance though when you look at his 12 career attempts. LOL he punts in the CFL too wtf?

I'll take the weaker legged accurate guy. Someone who can consistently hit from 40.
