Even if Watson wanted to come here... I'm having trouble seeing how we could compete bidding wise.
Honestly and i know some will scoff at this but, IMO Houston is going to want a quality experienced QB in return. A transition QB who can win games. I don't see them wanting JUST picks no matter how many they get. So...Darnold, Tua, Trubiski, Garoppolo, Brissett, Bridgewater or a guy like Goff. Clearly Goff is the better QB.

Not accurate at all I'm surprised Klein was that bad.

2022 $35 million
2023 $37 million
2024 and 2025 $32 million

He's saying the team trading for him owes the signing bonus which the Texans would have to pay when they trade him (on their books it's already paid).

Ok, thanks for correcting. Still big numbers when put together with the dead cap from trading Goff, which many people think largely and magically disappears if we wait until June 1st to make it official.

The key factors of course are whether Watson can in fact force a trade and if so where he wants to go.

It seems likely to me that he can force a trade. It's bad mojo on every level of rebuilding and fan support for Houston to force a really disgruntled star to stay.

If so, Watson is in the driver's seat about where he goes (unless there are unusual terms in his no-trade clause). A deal would still have to involve players or draft picks that work for Houston. But the result might be that Houston might need to accept a high value but not crazy or perfect trade and make the best of it.

Bottom line: IF Watkins were to insist on a trade to the Rams imo it could actually happen. I think the Rams could come up with enough to get it done if they can trade Goff to Houston or to a third party as part of the deal.

This is exactly right :fistbump:.

Historically I would say the teams held all the power and wouldn't have to deal the player. But I think we are beginning to witness a paradigm shift, very similar to what happened in the NBA. And only superstar players with a no trade clause really hold this power, but if Watson is willing to hold out and be an issue (and it seems he's willing to) Houston wont benefit from holding him hostage against his will. I agree that if he wants to come to the Rams, they might be forced to deal him to us for a less than perfect compensation package...versus what NY or someone else could give them.

But what's starting to make me believe is what @Mackeyser was pointing out regarding the timing of it all. Our lack of commitment to Goff, Watson demanding publicly he wants a trade...they kind of fit. Also the fact that Ramsey and Watson share the same agent, and he dealt with us on a blockbuster trade 2 years ago. Throw in the fact that Ramsey went on Watson's Instagram this week, commented on a picture and said "that sure looks like a LA man to me." Throw in the new report about Watson's wife wanting to be an actress.

I wont deny wanting to read the tea leaves a certain way, but there are a lot of signs. Throw in we have the #2 market in the NFL, a trade-happy GM, and an offensive genius as a head coach.

Yeah this supposed magical June 1st designation would make our QB cap hit around $48 million next year. But this year we'd only pay $10 million for getting rid of Goff!! Giggity :)

yeah but if its rip off... houston will say fuck you to the world.

The steelers did with Laveon Bell.
The Patriots didn't with Grabapole and by all rights they could have got so much more for him from other teams.

You don't understand, Houston doesn't have a wise choice outside of deal him soon ( because they will most likely get less if this drags on past draft etc) but it is ONLY up to Watson where he wants to go as per his contract stips.

Believe me that has us in this race and if we trade Goff to another team a minimum of a first we are in business, or send him packing to Houston to lessen the trade load.

no i understand... you are giving the no trade clause more power than it actually has.

watson has some power - but he doesnt have absolute power. The Texans will meet him in the middle... but if the deal isnt good enough they wont do it.

Correct me if i'm wrong but why am i hearing so much that the Rams don't have the draft capital? We're short one 1st rd pick in this years draft am i right?

yeah we dont have a 1st rounder this year... which is another reason I just can't see it happening.

If Houston wants Goff we may not need one only the other ones and if Houston doesn't then it's up to us to find a suitor for Goff or some other way to get a 1st round pick.

Dude trader Les will make it happen if that's what they think will help us over the top! History shows this!

So you say the middle? Let's the market is 3 firsts and a 2nd. So middle ground is 2 firsts?

We either trade Goff for a first or give them Goff, either way it's a deal. The value for Watson right now is at the highest ( meaning league New Year in March) after that his value starts declining for compensation and once they realize he is firm they'll deal him.

Watsons agent is Ramseys agent. Guarantee there is back channels there.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. So Ramsey was openly campaigning on Watsons IG, and now he just comes out and says it!!!??

They have the same agent he must know something...

This also shows that Goff does not have full support of the locker room. WOW.

It really does make you think that maybe Jalen knows something the rest of us don’t with how blatant he is being now. Maybe a deal has been agreed to or is trending that way? Guess time will tell.

Not only that, but Ramsey just said "yea he about to follow me to LA. My future QB said he was on 2, then took it to 10."

And that was the cryptic tweet by Watson a week ago everyone was wondering what it meant... RAMSEY HAS TO KNOW SOMETHING
