I watched Robinson for so many years with the Rams and USC that it has to be him.

McVay is fast becoming a favorite. Maybe in a couple years.

Vermeil caught lightning in a bottle but then jumped ship under the guise of retiring, only to coach the Chefs for longer than the Rams. I will always be a little butt hurt over that. Of course, I have to consider who he was working for, so maybe a bit difficult to judge.

my vote was other...

somehow you forgot to include george allen...

maybe not the winningest coach, but will always be my favorite because he was the coach when i became a rams fan...

What McVay has done for this team is nothing short of miraculous and best of all sustainable. Afaik I don't believe we've had any other HC that has gone at least five years without any losing seasons. The best of both worlds in both scheme and personality and still somehow the youngest in the league with a decent gap between him and the second youngest. That's insane

Very disappointing results.

The Rams' 6-7-1 record in 1972 was their only sub-.500 season in a 15-year period (1966-1980).

However, a ton of talent came-in during Prothro's two years (1971-1972). Never been sure if he was the primary personnel decision-maker, or a significant voice in such decisions. Regardless, these players all became Rams in those two years.

DL: Jack Youngblood, Fred Dryer and Larry Brooks.
LBs: Isaiah Robertson and Ken Geddes
DBs: Dave Elmendorf
RBs: Lawrence McCutcheon and Jim Bertelsen

Yeah I was kidding. He was a real letdown after George Allen, but always interesting. He didn’t believe in left and right linemen, only strongside-weakside. Master of the trick play. Like I said, interesting guy, he just wasn’t cut out for pro football.
 
I voted for Vermiel based on his success of pulling off the big one.
However, I wouldn't want anyone other than McVay leading us right now. He's done so much in such a short amount of time.

There is relationships that go into it all as well.Didn’t Vermiel start a trend with HC’s after they were hired ?

Mcvay was bred for this,he is living a lot of peoples dreams.I’d say most would say they’d rather be Les Snead in this relationship?

I always felt like Robinson did the best job of building a mentally tough team though he never got all the way and had the misfortune of having to deal with SF in the non-salary-cap era.
