Who do you think has been the Rams best head coach in the last 45 years?

Really can’t argue with that, but from 1967 through the late 80s, Allen, Knox and Robinson, the Rams were consistently good.

Agree. Really good. Winning record in 20-out-of-24 seasons from 1966-1989.

Two of the four losing seasons were the strike-shortened years of 1982 and 1987.

I voted Vermeil solely because he won a SB. 2nd is McVay.

So no one is going to ask who voted for Martz?
I was torn. I think he designed the greatest show on turf but struggled as a head coach. He knew how to use the players he had! And use them perfectly when he was OC.

The players believed in him, they never gave up on him, and he was a leader. And if not for 9/11 and the cheatriots, he would have a superbowl ring as a head coach.

You're as mad as Mike, if you voted for him. His drafting - S-Jax, Atogwe, and Tinoisamoa aside - was atrocious. And before you say "Zygmunt", which, admittedly, is a good excuse at first glance, you can't tell me that Martz didn't have control - look no further than Trung Candidate. Look at 2001. Three first round picks, all blown. He's also responsible for a couple of major character picks in 2005: Claude Terrell and Richie Incognito - both of whom were known character risks in college.

Martz is better than Linehan and Spagnuolo, but that's scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I'd put him above Vermeil, who only got to the superbowl because of Martz and his system in the first place.

And I'd say that's partially true. Vermeil, at least, helped build the 1999 team. Martz was the catalyst for the destruction of the team in the mid 2000s.

Either way, I look at the team McVay built, and honestly, he's the only choice. He hasn't had a losing season yet. When he wins it all, there won't be any question as to whom the top head coach for the Rams is.

Obviously McVay is going to be here a LONG time, and hopefully he brings us several superbowl wins along the way. But even then, it was the team Snead and Fisher built that he took over, so it's not like we had a bunch of bums before he came here.

What McVay has done for this team is nothing short of miraculous and best of all sustainable. Afaik I don't believe we've had any other HC that has gone at least five years without any losing seasons. The best of both worlds in both scheme and personality and still somehow the youngest in the league with a decent gap between him and the second youngest. That's insane
Yes we have.
Chuck Knox
seven straight division titles (Chuck had 5)
he had double digit wins every year.

Tough to pick just one.

I'd like to give some love to Martz though. I give him the majority of the credit for our only Super Bowl win. Plus... he got us back into another SB and we only lost because of blatant fucking cheating. If not for that fucking muffed punt... he would have had us in another SB too. He did all this while having a dysfunctional as fuck front office and owner who used the team as her only source of income. Pretty amazing.

I also love John Robinson, Chuck Knox, and McSlay.
I loved Martz too. Couldn't find his ass with either hand in the draft but boy could he get production out of offensive players. And you gotta respect a guy who, when asked about whether he ran the ball enough in the Super Bowl, responded that he should have passed more. Egomaniac? Maybe. Probably lol. So many games where I talked mad shit about him not running the ball enough. But respect.

The young Knox was a ground 'n pound badass. Georgia hiring him in his geriatric period though was so poorly done. It's amazing how fucking stupid she was. Her tenure as owner could be turned into a new owner class for how not to do shit.
