Brian Allen's coronavirus diagnosis explains the signing of Blythe as a one year stop-gap. I still think there is no guarantee Blythe will the starter at C. Also I strongly believe that Snead still feels that Allen is their man long term and I agree. Allen outplayed both Sullivan and Blythe last year. Why he's disparaged on this board is puzzling. Simply breaking down his play last year is all it would take.

Most teams only carry 8 o-line on the active roster while stashing 2 or 3 on the PS. Only 7 are active (dressed) on game day. Right now their starting o-line looks like:

LT Whitworth
LG Corbett
C Allen
RG Evans as that is where his best fit is
RT Edwards because I think he was originally drafted to replace Havenstein

Gameday: OT Havenstein if he's still on the team or Brewer if he isn't. OG/C Blythe if Allen is good to go or if Blythe is starting then Shelton.

IMO those are the 8 guys on the active roster in September with Noteboom on PUP. When he's active I believe Havenstein (assuming he wasn't traded) or Blythe is released if Allen is healthy.

The Rams are committed to Whitworth through the 2021 season. That's why I believe that Noteboom will be placed carried on PUP all the way through TC and into the season. He will then become Whitworth's backup until 2022.

This is why I don't see them investing draft capital on the o-line this year. Of course, this changes somewhat if they are able to trade Havenstein before the season which then allows them to carry Noteboom on the active roster through the season.

I respect your post, Old, I just personally really hope you're wrong:)

The OL may have played better in the second half, but it was a long ways from being a strong unit. I also think McVay did a helluva job adjusting (i.e. 12 personnel and play calling) to compensate for below-average OL play. Of the starters you listed, I'm not sure any of them outside of Whit aren't upgradeable in an effort to create a strong unit.

Can't wait to learn what the plan is!

I made a post way back about this. Your take is so much the vision I see as far as the 8 go.
Need to read about Brian Allen, just heard last night, but saw he bought a new bike & was interviewed on TheRams website.
I was all for Evans being the starter to finish out 2019. He earned it & The Rams still made a run. Last game of the season though EVans was not 100%. Havenstien didn’t play. Brewer came in for a series & he needs to get stronger. My point though is Havenstien is still the MAN at RT. He was rehabbing with R.I.C.E. Which should help him in the long run. If he sticks to staying in shape he could be better than ever. He is a student of the game from my view point ?? Evens can play all along the line.

—My concern is Noteboom & his career?? When he said he can’t walk 2 months after surgery is scary. This is the biggest question mark to me.

Blythe is a question about his play vs Brian Allen. I think Blythe showed awesome leadership last season. Play hurt as well.

Edwards never played OG & took him awhile. He should get a lot better after the experience from 2020. He just turned 23. 2 years ago they said he would be a 1st or 2nd rd pick 2019.

Corbett was a #33 pick & has never been through training camp with Kromer. He should get much better, he & Whitworth getting closer on the Left side.

I don’t see wasting capital on the line. Demby never lost a fame he played last season ??

The new CBA has opened up a few things. There will be 48 game-day actives instead of 46; and an increase in the Practice Squad (up to 12, I believe).

If Ruiz makes it to 40 then someone will probably have to trade up ahead of the rams to get him because teams picking 41 to 51 dont need a center except dallas and if hes there at 52 then hell be a ram

Yep hard to settle an OL down that had 4/5ths college OT's starting over the last half of 2019. Yes Old's prediction on the right side would give me some heartburn. I am sure though that Edwards would be fine @ RT or RG or better @ LG. Better to have Evans be our OT.

If you're a OL'er built like Bobby Evans with 35 inch arm length, 9 1/2 inch (average size hands) .....your NFL position is sure to be much more likely a OT not OG. Whitworth has 35 inch arms. Joseph Noteboom has 34 5/8 arm length wing span of 83 1/2 wing span screams OT!

Starting RG Austin Blythe 30 1/4 inch. Starting LG Aaron Corbett 33 1/8 & extra large 10 1/2 inch hands. David Edwards has 33 3/8 inch arms & large 10 inch hands

Wow just realized Frederick retired. Was a good pick for the Cowboys--pro bowls and I'd say he helped them win a lot of games.

And weren't posters here claiming that reports were that the Rams love Evans potential? It seems to me that their excitement would mean that they see him as a tackle. Maybe Whit 's replacement. I think Brewer has a bit of potential as a tackle too.

But the Rams do not have an above average Center on the roster. I hope they want more than average or below average on the Oline. They have to realize that stellar Oline play is a huge, maybe biggest part of the team that allowed them so much success in 2017/2018, don't they?

Maybe it's just like some of us are predicting. This is a year that the Rams are eating their 'all in' run and eyeing some free agent Olinemen next March when they have more cap room. Veteran Olinemen are much easier to project than college spread offense Olinemen.

Dead horse here but a good OL IMO helps:

Sustain drives(helping the defense rest)
Opens lanes for our likely RB by committee
Protects the 100 mil investment in Goff
Wins Championships

For me; OL in the 2nd and probably WR. Both capable of playing in 2020.

I go LB and RB next.

All I need now is the draft to fall such to allow this!

The Rams could use help or depth in a number of positions. However IMO they have to fill 1 ILB starter (Kiser on early downs and Reeder on passing downs fills 1 role) and a RB by committee role. I don’t see any FAs that can fill RB so they need to draft a RB. I don’t think they will find a starting ILB in the draft unless they trade up so they need to pick up another FA.

We need a Center really bad. Allen was a Complete disaster and an embarrassment to Ram football. Blythe is backup depth at best.

We also need a true guard. Bobby Evans might be a good backup at right tackle and depth at guard. But Evans lacks the hands to lock on and move bodies as a guard. Evans has decent feet and power but he lacks the poise balance and hands to be a plus guard. Way to inconsistent.

Our path back to Dominance is getting our Oline rebuilt the way it was when we were the top offense.

I would draft a center in RD 2
Biadasz
Hennessy
Cushenberry
Harris

and a guard in RD 3 or 4.
Hunt
Muti
Jackson
Harris
Lewis
Stenberg
Bredeson

With the other two early picks I would grab ILB and RB or LT depending on what is available.

I just think the O”line will stay the same. Biggest question is Notebooms
future. The Rams are going to draft a RB early!!! There is no doubt in my opinion.
Will see, I’m talking to much crap now. Just staying true to what I vision & believe.

So I know you think The Rams need offensive line help ???

My point is about how Les Snead & The Rams (Kromer) think about the Center postion.

I know my thoughts about Gurley & the RB postion. I also think my view on what Les Snead is thinking just from the past & what he has said. Especially more in 2020 ????
Like I said will see. You might not like the direction the draft goes. I’ve been surprised & pissed in a view ways. Then again I Trust McSnead.

Totally agree!! I think The Rams and McSnead do a good job at finding players though even though ILB is not very deep.
A RB by committee is a different view than Les Snead thinks. He has changed his mind of late, but quality depth is going to be a must.
