Thanks for putting that up 65, always like watching Orlovsky's content.

Bell would be fantastic for the record. Doubt we could fit him in but maybe he wants to win a Super Bowl. Only concern I have with him is the guy is a bit of a prima donna. I don't care for players like that but in our current situation he makes a ton of sense.

On one interview he said when he saw the switch was wrapping around the kid's leg and hitting him in the balls, he laughed about it. That's the kind of shit that is borderline unforgivable.
Proof? That sounds a bit far fetched to say something like that

You were right, I misremembered. Thanks for making me go look out up. He had sent a text to his wife that says he felt bad when he saw it wrapping around and hitting the kids nuts, but he didn't stop because he was whipping him when he needed it.

No offense to Anderson but he’s not the fall forward back. Need a yard and you see him get stuck on the first hit.

I will be very surprised if we don't add a back considered to be a starter or equal to Hendo.
I believe we are committed to the run game and the rb position equally.
My guess is the staff will want to take action to assure we can move forward
with equal commitment and confidence to the running game or as close as reasonably possible to pre Akers injury.
I love Hendo when he is on the field, keeping him there is my concern.

Id like to see Henderson keep his RB2 status with 10-12 touches/game. This allows keeping him relatively fresh throughout the season. That means an RB1 with 15-18 touches/game to replace Akers still needs to be determined. Not sure if Jones or Funk can fill the RB1 roll themselves but perhaps they could by committee. If Jones and/or Funk doesn’t provide the necessary RB1 pass block/inside run production - I see the Rams picking up a vet from final cuts or via trade. No way the Rams will be going into the regular season with a major question mark regarding their RB1 situation. IMO there are way too many options for that to happen.

I'm glad such an archaic form of punishment is being phased out of society, but it's not something I can condemn someone for life for

Welp, Stafford's per game stats will now be looking something like 80-90, 500yds, 5TDs.

I still think Xavier Jones could be a hidden gem, but it's hard to believe they won't bring in a veteran.

I like his vision and he seems quick sideways, so you never know. I think our oline will create enough holes.

I’m not sure I see much from Anderson or Calais at RB. and…Need to temper expectations on Funk. So it sure seem somewhere along the line we add one more RB… perhaps we wait until cuts.

Have a feeling Broncos RB Royce Freeman could be had for a conditional pick. Freeman is in the last year of his contract is at number 4 on the depth chart and a change of scenery, plus coming home could rejuvenate him. He has good size at 6'0 238lbs plus he can catch the football and does a good job in pass protection, seems like he would be the perfect back to rotate with Henderson, with the ability to be a 3 down back if called upon.

I’m just not gonna worry about the Rams RB situation.

Rams are very aware and I’m sure are all over it. We’ll have a good RB room come September one way or another.

My guess is that they’ll bring in an undervalued young vet that they’ve liked for quite some time. Might be a FA or maybe even a trade scenario. Neither will be seen as a blockbuster move at the time but I’ll bet that the newbie produces in this O quite nicely.

Why I’m still bullish on LA Rams RB Xavier Jones

by Bret Stuter 3 months ago

The LA Rams have a lot of places to focus upon in the 2021 NFL Draft. There are plenty of places to go on offense: offensive linemen, a speedy wide receiver who will force defenses to cover the entire football field, even another tight end to throw into the mix. Then there is the defense, where cornerbacks are definitely short-supplied, a new round of linebackers to help the team out in 2022, edge rushers, and even defensive linemen.

But there is one area the Rams will likely not look to reinforce in this draft. Running back.

And that is very good news for the guy who was red-shirted in 2020, no-longer-rookie running back Xavier Jones. After all, Jones made the Rams 53-man roster in 2020 but wasn’t heard from again. That’s often a sign of buyer’s remorse from an NFL team, a subtle indication of seeing something in the player that wasn’t there.

In the beginning

Well, let’s start from the beginning if you are unfamiliar with the LA Rams ‘other’ running back. Xavier Jones is an outstanding running back from Southern Methodist University (SMU) who held the NCAA scoring title in 2019, averaging nearly 12 points per game. Yet, he was never invited to the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine. Nor did he hear his name called at the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Rams added him. Even though the team had a full complement of running backs, he impressed both head coach Sean McVay and All-Pro defensive lineman, Aaron Donald, enough in two makeshift scrimmage games to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. And then?

Nothing.

But the story doesn’t end here. Rather, it begins here. You see, despite the proclamations that the Rams will run their offense with the legs of running back Cam Akers, the Rams have plans for both Darrell Henderson, Raymond Calais, and ultimately, for Xavier Jones.

Tough to bring down

Jones isn’t a forgotten player, nor is he perceived as a miss. He was simply a rookie at a position thick with veterans. and he was on the bench watching his team compete. He saw his team compete in 16 regular-season games, and then in two playoff games. The entire time, he wanted to get onto the football field.

The 5-foot-11 215-pound running back for the LA Rams is more than just a bench warmer. While not as shifty as Darrell Henderson, as speedy as Raymond Calais, or as elusive as Cam Akers, Jones has plenty of good reason to carry the ball often. First and foremost, if Aaron Donald knows your name at the end of a football game, you either impressed him or pissed him off.

He finds the endzone folks. He just does. I’d love to break it down for you by describing the thrust generated with each stride as he nears the goal line. I’m certain there are scientific ways to describe his route for the score in vectors, angular velocity, projected versus actual trajectory. But why bother? He just scores touchdowns.

He does so by not getting tackled. He stays low to the ground, almost like a mouse hiding among the blades of grass. But he continues to push forward. While under the six feet tall, he is amazingly powerful. And his frame is compact too, ideally suited to making people miss in traffic.

I'd wait for him to get cut first and then consider him.

I’m reasonably calm about this as of today. The 24 hours sure helped.

I think that Rams can take their sweet time weighing all their options. Absolutely no reason to rush this process at all. None.

They can afford to observe their existing RB roster in camp and especially in scrimmage. Hell, they may love what they see. But if not, then there will be plenty of time and options to bolster their RB roster if they feel they need to.

AP intrigues me as a potential 1 year rental but I have no clue as to his salary demands. But honestly, I suspect that Rams will sign some RB whose name I might not even recognize but whose analytics have impressed them.

Rams proved to me that they can find producers on the fly when they signed that OJ Anderson guy in ‘18 and he kept us in the SB hunt.

I do NOT see Rams investing a premium future pick in trade for a RB. Maybe a 5th or later IF they really like him as a future starter.

Speaking of which, Rams should plan for the future as if Akers is a goner. History on RB recoveries from torn Achilles is not at all encouraging. I’m talking early draft pick next year or pricey trade for a stud that they think is a young and healthy good scheme and locker room fit.

Lastly, I understand the reluctance of some to make a RB offseason move. I do. But let me remind those that this is a SB run year and who knows how long this window will remain open? After getting this very expensive QB and this very good looking draft, do we really want to skimp on our RB situation? That would be very penny wise-pound foolish, if you ask me.
I wanted them to take a RB this year. Relying on two young guys that dealt with injuries last season was risky. Khalil Herbert was a perfect fit for the ZBS. Now he’s on the Bears. Maybe they really like X-Jones. Maybe they believe in Funk’s knees *shrug*. Who knows at this point.
