All of that aside, those texts from BB show that Giants subverted the spirit of the Rooney Rule
How? Because he got the names screwed up? I hate BB as much as the next guy but it seems like people want this to be a smoking gun much more than it actually is one

With the Giants? I dont see how it can be construed as racial in any way. Flores had his shot and wasnt able to capitalize on it. They didnt need to interview him to satisfy the Rooney rule
It was Flores's interview that officially satisfied the Rooney rule.

And yet they still met with Frazier, which further satisfies the rule. I could see an angle if he was the only one, but he wasnt.

the Rooney rule requires 2 candidates - not just one (changed in 2020)

Correct, at least 1 has to be from another team and in person. They also interviewed in house candidate DC Graham
"And considering how much virtual interview platforms were used last year due to the pandemic, the league now requires teams must also conduct an in-person interview with at least one external minority candidate for any GM or head coaching interview."

I think the idea that there isn’t a race problem in coaching hires in the NFL is pretty far-fetched, to me, and has been for a long while.
yeah this thread makes me laugh a bit....

I'll say this - think of how the nfl does hiring coaches... almost every coach the teams hire fail..

Seems to me their system in all aspects is shitty.

I was aware of human beings before 2020-2022, but those years exposed humanity for its pathetic thought process. Reading through this thread and some others shows me how bad humans are with judgement. No one here knows much of anything and are taking what they do know from the media and twitter....then they throw judgement out on who is right and who is wrong....................................really sad. (I would use other words, but I don't want to get banned).

Yup.
Rooney Rule is a very imperfect solution to a clear and persistent problem.
The minority hiring programs at the entry level are a real positive, though... as they develop the individuals to be in position for promotions, etc.

My time is precious. I imagine Flores feels the same way. There might be people out there who appreciate interviewing even if they aren't going to get hired. I don't. Don't jerk me around. If you're giving the job to somebody else, don't interview me. It's not about positive or negative outlook. I simply value my time and prefer to choose how I waste it, not have others do that for me.

Maybe he's not playing the race card. Maybe he genuinely believes what he's saying. It sounds like he's not the only one who does.
You are currently employed I take it. I know for a fact that Brian Flores isn’t. He has much more time on his hands than you do if that is the case. Besides, if he wants to work as an NFL Head Coach he should be willing to do whatever it takes. There’s only 32 of them and currently about 4 spots left this year.

It’s more likely he was just pissed off after thinking he got the Giants job and instantly thought maybe Miami has been spreading some rumors, so what’s the use. Remember this is a guy who quit talking to his assistants. He’s lucky he even got an interview.

Fans think that teams scour the earth for the best and brightest football coaches and the most qualified wins. This is far from the truth. Teams use personal connections most of the time. They hire guys they know or a guy that someone they are close to vouches for. This is extremely true at the lower level, giving friends and acquaintances starter jobs. It’s a club. A club you need to be invited to.

Even when an owner, gm, exec doesn’t personally discriminate… sometimes they still do. Why? Systemic racism. If minority coaches historically didn’t have access, and then through connections they don’t have, they get fewer opportunities, than even if they don’t exclude minorities in the process they can still discriminate. Their hiring process excluded them by using only their connections or prioritizing them. This is what the Rooney rule is “trying” to change… but failing. Not only are these practices inherently discriminatory… but they also lead to mediocre hires.

Even if the giants satisfied the Rooney rule.. that's all they were trying to do. A lot of teams just pick their guy, then have a bunch of interviews to make it look like a process, when really it's done with backroom good old boy handshakes. So even if the act itself isn't racist.. it's not giving black coaches a real shot.. so the hiring process is racist.

Also, when there are so few black coaches.. Brian Flores has to be so pissed. I get that some people think tanking is a legitimate strategy.. (I don't).. but Flores has more on his shoulders than the dolphins record. He is also holding the ladder for any other black man who wants to be a coach. And it would effect his ability to go on to another team.

Waste of time. Teams are and should hire the candidate they want, regardless of color. The only damning thing here is Dolphins brass wanting to throw games.

Obviously he is being truthful about the pay to lose proposition so that lays the groundwork for all the subsequent animosity and firing.

The owner is a disgrace and doesn't deserve the franchise that Don Shula made legendary.

Can you imagine him making the same offer to Don?

I think the Rooney rule is with good intentions, but at the same time is a joke. I'd hate being a black coach and going to an interview with the thought in the back of my head of "Do they really have interest in me? Or is it just then going through the motions?"

If "whatever it takes" is being forced to suffer interviews with teams that aren't actually interested in hiring you, no, he shouldn't have to be willing to do that. Yes, I am employed. But if I was unemployed, I think it would be an even bigger kick in the nuts.

Well, Miami has definitely been spreading rumors. How do I know? You just repeated something they leaked. And it's something that isn't very believable. You really think a head coach stopped talking to his assistants during a stretch of games where his squad went 8-1? C'mon.

It's unfortunate. I have spoken with one of the men behind it, John Wooten, in the past. I have no doubt that it was needed. But man, it just sucks that they had to do something like that because the owners couldn't be trusted to handle things the right way.

100% agree.
