Flores believing he has a case of racism against him doesn’t mean he has a case. It could also mean he listens to the constant racism narratives pumped out by ESPN and MSNBC every hour on the hour.

I listed to about 30 minutes of ESPN radio yesterday with Keyshawn going on and on about absolute non factual race bating narratives in the NFL. The level of twisted narratives is mind blowing.

But if I am Flores and believed half that garbage with the passion it was presented then I would probably be seeing ghosts that don’t exist as well.

Flores Dolphins didn’t make the playoffs. They regressed. Mike Zimmer also got fired. It ain’t rocket science.

This thread is headed for a lock - which is a shame because it is an interesting topic worth real discussion on an NFL board.

I'm going to jump out of this conversation regardless of whether its locked. While its an interesting topic, I'm finding it to be a massive buzzkill when I'd rather be looking forward to the Super Bowl. If the discussion is continuing on after the big game, maybe I'll jump back in.

If racism is involved, it should be uncovered and addressed. The part that looks bad for Brian Flores to me, based on the Bill Belichick texts, is that when Flores thought Belichick was telling him that he (Flores) was the Giant's favored pick, he was totally fine with it. "I hope you're right coach." But once Flores realized Belichick was talking about Brian Daboll, now it's racism.

Well you don't know that. We have no idea what his personality is and if that would even indicate if he was in fact tough to get along with.
I think I don't know. I think the justifications for disbelieving Flores at this point are weak. I think the smart idea is to wait and see what happens.
You really think he was fired for his color of his skin? If so why was he ever hired? Common sense says it has to be more than just that.
Under this rationale, no firing could ever be due to racial discrimination. And I can tell you that isn't true.
Flores Dolphins didn’t make the playoffs. They regressed. Mike Zimmer also got fired. It ain’t rocket science.
Zimmer had spent eight years as a HC and was coming off back-to-back losing seasons. Flores had back-to-back winning seasons and overachieved in 2019 with a squad most people thought was the worst in the NFL. Hell, he finished #3 in Coach of the Year voting LAST YEAR (2020).

Well, Flores hadn't interviewed yet. It wouldn't be odd for a team to interview a guy they wanted to hire. It would be odd for a team to interview a guy if they already had decided to hire somebody else.

A GM/Owner having their mind set on a candidate and liking that guy isn't bad. It's better to interview more and varied candidates just look at the Rams last hire. By all reports we were dead set on Shanny then he gets snowed in on the east coast and we delay his interview. In the meantime we interview this young guy named Sean McVay and the rest is history. These owners and GM's falling for one guy and closing their minds to other options are failing their teams and their fans/players. Personally I hope these accusations are false but I absolutely won't dismiss Flores out of hand we see too many coaches like Zimmer who are terrible keep their jobs and then guys like Flores who was good in Miami and Culley who did an admirable job coaching that shit show get fired for no reason.

Why the hell is Dan Quinn getting interviews and more of them than guys like Morris, Frazier and Flores? Quinn was terrible unless he was carried by an OC. And when he was fired Morris did a much better job with the same team on an interim basis than Quinn ever did by himself. I'm really hoping we get KoC promoted and then we can funnel Brown and Yarber into OC roles and eventually get them promoted to HC because everybody on down to McVay's barber gets an interview.

I'm hoping Morris gets a job and we can funnel Evero and Henderson up into that role and get them moving towards coaches. That's not to say guys like Shula and Carberry can't get promoted too.

But until we get more OC/DC minority coaches it's going to be harder and harder to change things. Especially getting young minority OC's since like 2/3 of the NFL coaches are offensive guys. Unfortunately substantive change like needs to happen take time but you gotta at least move in the right direction and give them a fair shake.

Unless Flores has more that he isn't revealing just yet, I don't see the Belicheat text rising to the level of proven discrimination. But if it gets him in more hot water with the league, I'm all for it.

I still want to know how the Giants are implicated in this? Once they hired the GM, it was a done deal who was getting the HC job. I sure wanted Flores, but despite his coaching record/achievements, there is also a history of him not getting along with any OC, and now is apparently not getting a HC job with plenty of openings. Maybe its his personality?

I dont understand what the big deal is about that text, it was pretty obvious he thought he was talking to Daboll

Yeah and the QB rejection down in Miami might factor in with NY. They also have a lame duck QB they are hoping someone can perform reclamation on. Has to be a bit of a red flag to them that Miami soured over that same issue.

That's what I got out of it too. I didn't see a single thing in there that screamed discrimination.

I absolutely disagree with this take (I don't know anything about this case, however). You could be blown away in an interview and walk out knowing that is your guy. Then you still give the other applicants their interviews. I mean, you still give them a chance to impress, right? And, out of courtesy, you don't just cancel their interview.

Mike Martz is a terrific offensive coordinator. But after a couple gigs it seems no one wanted him. Apparently he doesn't play well others. Maybe Flores has the same reputation?

BB saying he heard that Flores was the guy in NY doesn't help his case. That insinuates they were high on him which works against the racism angle.

I'm probably alone on this but I don't like what I'm hearing from Flores through this early offseason. If he's not careful he's gonna be a career DC way he's going.
thats now what happened though.. bb had his "Brians" mixed up and let Flores no they had already hired someone before they even interviewed him.

I read it that he thought the Giants were talking about Flores getting the job and it was Daboll getting it.

No, you shouldn't interview people out of "courtesy." That's a waste of people's time. I'd be beyond pissed if a company interview me out of "courtesy." If I'm interviewing, I'm taking time away from something else I could be doing.

But here's the kicker, how does Bill Belichick find out? He's not a Giants employee.

Martz got multiple OC gigs after we let him go (and didn't do that well). Flores was literally just fired after overachieving in Miami. If Ross went out and tried to convince the rest of the NFL not to give him any other opportunities, that definitely doesn't help the NFL or Ross.

OK, so you would be offended and pissed if they gave you a chance to impress. Fair enough.
