I am a huge Badger fan and admittedly biased, but I would be surprised if Leonard left Wisconsin anytime soon. He's revered there, loves Madison, recently built a home there, has three kids in school, and makes a million year at his alma mater. If he leaves, I would LOVE for it to be to go to the Rams, but I would be quite shocked. Great mind and a great guy. Like McVay, everyone associated with him loves him.

Browns rumors indicate team could give Josh McDaniels a Bill Belichick-type, full-control role

The Cleveland Browns are in the market for a head coach, and for once, the team’s focus appears to be on hiring someone who will actually help build the roster, and remain for the long haul.

It would be quite a shift from what the organization has done in recent years, given that the Browns have had more coaches in the past decade than any other team. The turnover has really hurt them, with Freddie Kitchens being the most recent example — not even lasting an entire calendar year.

The team made a mistake in hiring Kitchens, given that he had no head coaching experience. Going forward, it appears as if they’re looking for a more established, veteran in this space. As such, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ name has come up. SiriusXM analyst Gil Brandt even suggested that the Browns could look to give McDaniels the keys to the castle in their attempt to lure him in, offering what would look like a Bill Belichick-type of position, with full control of the roster.

If that’s what it takes to land McDaniels, so be it. But while he’s a smart, innovative play-caller — he doesn’t really come from a scouting/personnel background, so this move could end up backfiring big-time.

The best thing that can happen to the Cleveland Browns is McDaniels turns them down, but I don't think it will happen. IMO, the Titans are going to defeat New England and they would have lost their last two games at home, McDaniels being a rat will get off the sinking ship and like Napoleon seize power in Cleveland, it will be quite a story, but always beware of little men craving power....When I was in the military (special Ops) it was always the shorter guys, that would belly up to the bar and say to me, I was not that big and not that special.

Anyway I could see also McDaniels playing this out and saying no, just to prove to be wanted again, however, I think this time it's different from the Colts because the Colts had a GM in place in Chris Ballard. Worked out okay for the Colts, but I do believe McDaniels will be the next Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns for better or worse.

The irony here is that if you're a young head coach (I don't consider him to be a seasoned one even though he had that stint in Denver) having a good GM is a huge benefit. But from what we've seen of this guy you are probably correct that he'll grab for the power.

It's just funny to me how ego can stand in the way of intelligence. I mean the guy is obviously a smart dude but his complete lack of feel for people and the way power works makes me think he's going to learn another hard lesson.

But you never know. Belichick was always a more thoughtful and deep-thinker type vice a power grabber but maybe being under him taught him the importance of people skills.

Dave Tepper of the Panthers is worth 12 Billion, but our beloved Enos Stanley Kroenke is worth 9.7 billion and his wife Ann Walton Kroenke (Sam Walton's Daughter) is also worth 7.7 billion separately. So that's 17.4 billion if you're keeping track.
Paul Allen, the deceased owner of the Seahawks and co-founder of Microsoft, was apparently worth more than the Kroenke's (though what's a few billion here or there?). Hawks are now apparently owned by his family trust. Still lots of money behind the team.

My God, can the Browns ever learn? Better examine McDaniel's time in Denver a little more closely...lol

This has at least the potential to be a Daniel Snyder scale disaster. But maybe McDaniel learned something from his stint in Denver.

Aranda took the HC job at UNLV. Grantham is at UF and sucks. Steele isn't a NFL DC. Two names in the college ranks I think are worth watching (FWIW) are Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard (long-time NFL safety) and Oregon DC Andy Avalos.

Well, none are NFL DCs are they? And when has Oregon stopped anybody?

I like any of those the three out of the SEC to take the next step.

I'm a Gator fan. Many of the most knowledgeable people in our fanbase want Grantham fired. You can count me as one of the people who want Grantham fired. He runs a soft, passive coverage scheme that NFL caliber QBs have absolutely shredded the past two years. 3rd and long is nicknamed 3rd and Grantham because he has a real talent for giving up first downs on 3rd and 10+ yards.

I was wrong about Aranda to UNLV, but LSU is paying him $2.5 million per year to be DC. Not sure we'd dish that out. As for Oregon, their defense has actually been good this year. They finished #8 in PPG Allowed, #23 in YPG Allowed, and #13 in YPP Allowed. Avalos was at Boise State previously, runs a multiple scheme from a 3-4 base, and has a very aggressive style. He's also innovative with his personnel matching. I think Avalos would be amazing if we kept Wade on as a consultant to help guide him in his transition to the NFL.

Oh and to address my Steele comment, I meant that he doesn't have the ability to be a NFL DC. He's good for the college game, but I don't see him being successful in the pros.

We disagree

it happens

Just driving by and dropping “he sucks” doesn’t do much for me.

Steele actually coaches quality defenses and NFL coaches are paid well so that wouldn’t exclude Aranda.

Moving on...

I did know that, but now it's a trust and IMO, does not count, however, that is the smart way to avoid an inheritance tax, however, eventually I believe the Seahawks will be sold, similar to the Kansas City Royals, which Ewing Kaufman set up a trust, but eventually the team was sold from the trust to David Glass.

Avalos is one of the hottest commodities in college ball right now and rightly so. What he did with Oregon's defense is amazing and yeah I do like the 3-4 roots not to mention his ability to disguise with pre-snap alignments which is a requirement at the NFL level.

Problem is this guy is likely to get a lot of offers of jobs here real soon. Might even get his own program. I'm not too big a fan of dipping into college ranks for coordinators (yes I know it can work) but he's definitely one of those guys I wouldn't worry too much about.

Oh btw I was up late last night and the ESPN NFL show came on and guess who was in the "analyst" chair? Josina Anderson. I think I lost 15 IQ points while I was busy laughing at her expert analysis of moves around the league.

Jesus ESPN is a shambles of their former self.
