Not true. Teams can and do stop assistants from upgraded staff positions all the time.

Well, thought he was better than that...IMO, pairing with Wade if the Rams kept Wade, but if Wade moves on, I would like somebody other than Pagano, the key was pairing him with Wade Phillips.

I'm very confused Mike McCarthy took over a team that was 4-12...4 & 12 so I don't think they were that talented, but again, we will just agree to disagree.

McCarthy won a Super Bowl in 2010, he took over a Packer team in 2006 coming off a 4-12 record taking over for Mike Sherman. Can you recalculate please.

They were 4-12 in 2005, but had 13 straight winning seasons prior to that, 44-20 from 2001-2004
I think McCarthy is pretty over rated and should have won more than 1 SB. Sherman had 1 non winning season after 5 straight winning and got canned. (Favre with 30+ turnovers). McCarthy had 2 non winning seasons in his first 3 years, 4 overall.
Heck, LaFleur took over a team coming off 2 straight losing seasons, and I don't think anyone thought he was handed a losing roster. In fact, his 13 wins is better than all but 1 season of Mc

Be careful here, Jerry not adverse to hiring a college coach and Mullen wins wherever he goes. Hope for your sake he stays put, but they might want to talk extension down there in Gainesville right about now

Should have won more than one Super Bowl? Okay, not sure on that, but I don't think he's overrated. I do think he stuck with Capers too long and the defense was more of a determent to the Packers then McCarthy's offense. And I do believe he'll win in his next gig.

Many felt the same way about Andy Reid in Philadelphia and he didn't win any Super Bowls, but now in Kansas City, they love him.

Zimmer could be gone if Vikings lose to Saints

At this point, I would be surprised if Mike Zimmer remains the Vikings head coach next week should his team get thumped by the Saints. What began as a whisper around league circles has now grown closer to a scream, and ownership there is getting frustrated with being good … but not great.

The Wilf family didn't spend huge bucks across the roster with big signings and massive extensions to be comfortable just going out in the wild card round. The 2020 season was already set up as a pivotal one, with Kirk Cousins and Zimmer both in the final year of their deals, and executives around the NFL are convinced that big changes could be coming quickly in Minnesota if this team does not perform well in the playoffs.

Zimmer can be a handful and his tendency to wear out and churn through offensive coordinators has not gone unnoticed. Current OC Kevin Stefanski is a legit candidate for multiple head coaching vacancies and it may make more sense to go ahead and embrace change now -- with less than five teams currently searching for coaches -- then it would be to wade into what could be much deeper waters a year from now.

They already have a proven head coach on staff in Gary Kubiak, should he be willing to take on that job again, and recently fired Giants coach Pat Shurmur did tremendous work in Minnesota as an offensive coordinator prior to going to New York. Suffice to say, the Vikings would have no shortage of options if ownership made a move next week. As for Zimmer, Jerry Jones loves him in Dallas, and a return to the Cowboys in some capacity would not be shocking at all.

IDK, there have been whispers and I know they hold Kevin Stefanski in high regard so who knows? IMO, if the Vikings play a tough game against the Saints and come up short, I believe Zimmer stays, but if they get blown out, I do believe the could make a change in Minnesota.

Every time I see his red effin face I want to hit him. But yeah, he's a top coordinator so it would be hard to fault going and getting him.

I could get behind him and if he stays longer than 1 year it's a bonus. He and McVay would be a pretty insane duo.

With the caveat being switching back to a 4-3, I wouldn't mind bringing in Marv Lewis, he did construct the 2001 Ravens defense from scratch, as he was the DC from 96-01. That being said I am not looking to swiftly get rid of Wade, I think he can still coach this defense up better than we saw this year, which even with some clunkers, wasn't terrible.

I like the hire, McCarthy will bring some discipline and he's a veteran coach with a winning record. I expect Marvin Lewis to be his DC.

I don't know I guess I'm more pro McCarthy then others and he spent a year trying to find out how to improve and what his tendencies might be. Again he has talent and I believe he's a better coach than Garrett, so it has to move the needle.

I want to like him more but a HOF QB regarded as one of the most talented of our time and only one SB a playoff record right around .500 and for most of his tenure nobody else in his division was any good for more than a year or two. He’s good just not sure he’s a major upgrade for a brand as big as the Cowboys. But he does strike me as a Jerry guy who won’t rock the boat. Biggest question to me is do they stick with Dak or get him a new QB.

If McCarthy makes the right hires around him I can see it working out for them. He had a problem with hiring bad coordinators and not dumping them fast enough in Green Bay. Dallas has the talent on defense but McCarthy teams have a history of below average coaching on that side of the ball.
