When I saw this article... all I thought; “Thank gawd we are not the Broncos”... rehashing Shurmur as our OC.

REPORT: FORMER GIANTS HC PAT SHURMUR CANDIDATE FOR BRONCOS OC JOB

The Denver Broncos shocked the masses on Sunday, firing offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello after just one season in that role.

The firing comes following a 2019 campaign that saw Denver finish in the bottom five in points scored and total yards.

It sure looks like head coach Vic Fangio is checking in on experienced play callers to take over. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, that includes recently-fired former New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur.

This would represent a pretty savvy hire for the defensive-minded Fangio. Shurmur, 54, has experience as an offensive coordinator with the then St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

He’s also acted as the head coach for the Browns as well as the above-mentioned Giants during an NFL coaching career that has spanned over two decades.

The expectation here is that whoever comes in can help young quarterback Drew Lock after he impressed big time during the latter stages of his rookie season.

Shocked by this move by Fangio, should have given Rich Scangarello more time, however, I'm sure Fangio feels he's on the hot seat and feels strongly that Shurmur is an upgrade. In fairness after leaving the Rams Shurmur had positive results in Philadelphia & Minnesota, which enabled him to get another shot as Head Coach, but as I predicted two years ago, Shurmur was a mistake as Head Coach, but he might be a good match for Drew Lock and for some odd reason I really want Vic Fangio to succeed.
