They did mention he'd take on more with the protections before the season. Not sure how that played out or if that has slowed him a bit in his reads, him thinking more and not being used to doing it maybe.
Great point/post. I think this is highly likely. I also think he is trying to get through more of his reads than before, while his protection doesn't hold up as well or as long as he has very consistently had the past 2 seasons.
Goff and the passing game in general don't have the same rhythm from '17/'18 right now. It's like a great rock band has a new drummer. They haven't found their groove yet, the lead guitar player isnt doing as many solos and now the frontman has to carry the show.
The 2019 Jared Goff has more responsibilities and less time.
These things show in his timing and the late throws.
We are seeing a young O-line and a young QB develop and grow and occasionally take their lumps.
I'm not that hopeful that this O-line can be as good as last years, but as long as they protect him enough to stay on the field, I have no doubt Goff will be a better QB by the end of this season than he was going into it.
He could really start to catch fire if they can find the right rhythm for this year's Rams band er, team.
