To preview the matchup, we talked to John Sigler, managing editor of Saints Wire.
What would say is the biggest difference between the Saints now and in Week 9?
The Saints defense really came into its own after that game. They still made some plays, bottling up Todd Gurley on the ground, and Alex Anzalone gave the Saints an extra possession by intercepting Jared Goff. But the Saints really improved on defense over the weeks that followed and now may be the best unit left in the playoffs. They’re a top-ranked run defense and showed a week ago they can generate a pass rush without standout Sheldon Rankins. Eli Apple and Marshon Lattimore have made plays at cornerback, too.
How will the Saints’ defensive line hold up without Rankins?
Rankins was a big piece, and the team’s second-best pass rusher after Cameron Jordan. But he wasn’t a big part of their run defense and was routinely taken out of the game in place of backup David Onyemata. Look for Onyemata to get more reps as a pass rusher against L.A. while the Saints dial up more blitzes and even kick Jordan inside on passing downs to generate pressure.
What do you think the split will be like between Kamara and Ingram?
Kamara gets the heavier workload in the biggest games, and that should continue. Whether he’s getting more touches as a runner or receiver, the Saints will prioritize getting the ball in his hands. Ingram is seen as more of a closer who can grind out fourth quarters to maintain a lead, but he offers upside on blitz pickup (see: Ingram making Dante Fowler do a somersault in their last meeting).
Besides Michael Thomas, who’s the WR the Rams have to worry about?
Keith Kirkwood has steadily progressed to become the second man on the depth chart, but he’ll miss this game with a calf injury. Ted Ginn Jr. offers the most experience with Brees and had an uncharacteristically poor outing against Philadelphia. Brees and Ginn are seasoned pros and shouldn’t take much time to get back on the same page. They’ll try to connect deep to pick up chunk plays when not going to Thomas.
What’s your prediction for the game?
The Saints defense has proven it can hold its own, finding ways to get after passers and create turnovers even against strong offenses like the Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. If they can continue to do that, giving the Saints offense more opportunities to score and keep pace with the Rams, New Orleans should move on to the Super Bowl. I’ll be a bit of a homer and predict a Saints victory.

That would be wonderful, but it's almost impossible.
Nah in 1999 they didn't beat anyone any good either.
I think the Rams had the #2 hardest schedule in the NFL correct?
And..........point differential in wins doesn't mean shit anyway. A one point win tomorrow get's the Rams into the same Feb 3rd game as a 35 point shutout. Either one is fine with me.
