Holding out hope for Quinn.
But, with a cap savings of $11M next year if released and being outplayed by Longacre the early writing is on the wall.
I still do hold out hope for him. He is a talented player for sure.
But, if his $11M savings can go to key resigns or bringing in a FA like Poe or a true passrushing 3/4 OLB, well, makes it tough.
Unless his play kicks into gear.

Great edge rusher , just not fitting well in the 3-4 . If he can stay healthy , wade will find a way to use him

Robert Quinn used to have a couple inside moves... don't know where they went. (I thought it was reported that part of his success in 2013 was that he had developed them to make him a more complete DE). I do wonder if the back injuries have taken their toll.

I mean:

1) Lack of inside move (Seriously, I think he had some at one time).
2) Back injuries sapping athletic ability
3) New scheme has affected his ability to play without thinking

No wonder he's struggling.

“Im not going to call him out”

Proceeds to call him out.

With that being said, I’m in the boat of allowing him some time in this new scheme doing what he’s never been asked to do before.
Rushing the passer?? o_O I don't know bro! It really feels to me that he's really letting off the gas and as Jry pointed out he hasn't developed multiple ways of rushing over the years, which falls on him. I love Quinn but his lack of production is apparent and watching him gives me the impression he is half adding it to not hurt his back.

Sorry guys I hold very little hope that Quinn can perform the duties & responsibilities required from the right side edge rusher in the Wade "D". Time to go find his future replacement (Ebukam / Price or Thompson) until then I prefer to see a ton of Matt Longacre & very little of Quinn.

If I were going to mustard'd up an excuse for Quinn's very weak play thus far, I would drag up his wrist surgery early before TC. Trying to get your investment out of him right now is a wash going into a 3 rd straight season. You might get some good plays from Quinn when used in the front four 3 pt stance rush in Wade's Nickle/pass rush line (2 OSLB'er & 2 DL'ers). presently Quinn is a one trick pony once again.

It seems to me the only 'move' he's done this year to try and get to the quarterback is to just use his speed to get around the edge. I know he's done that a lot in the past and it worked well though.

I think teams are still trying to account for him......But He's playing himself out of relevance in a hurry.

Money issues aside, production is important to maintain his starting spot. It is pretty important that dude gets some sacks. Thats just the facts of this position, with or without Wade Phillips.

Alot of us dont want to see our defensive stars fade......but this star has faded faster than Chris Long's.

For now, he's a Ram and we'll hope he has a resurgence. If he does not, the reality is what it is and we wont see him in horns another year @ 11m. Just business.

We have Wades touch on the Defense and now we need it on the defensive personnel. Wades 3-4 is not the same as a 4-3, yes it has similarities but has differences too. In order to not alarm people the focus has been on the similarities while not pointing out the differences. It is called a 3-4 (hybrid) for a reason. I believe we have enough to improve and get through the season but Wade will need to tailor it and add pieces in the off season. As for Robert he is not as explosive or flexible as he once was, It is subtle but the extra explosiveness at the point of attack and flexibility allowed him to get players off balance and he would beat them, that ability is not at the level it once was leaving him an outside speed rusher and that is not enough to be an every down every match up play maker.

Like @Dieter the Brock said, no one has really showed any kind of consistency or star power on defense. This entire defense looks to be learning how to play in this system and you could point at a lot of players - not just Quinn.

I agree that he hasn’t looked great and seems all too often running right by the play. But he does have 1.5 sacks and if the rest of the defense starts picking up the scheme, he is always dangerous with his ability to separate the QB from the ball.

Let’s just hope we see the old RQ.

Thinking same thing but didn't want to say it out loud before the end of season. He could have enough value to another franchise that we wouldnt have to take such a big dead money hit. Maybe the Dolphins would pick up most of his contract and send us a red Swingline stapler?

Guys lets not make excuses!

ok.... lets make a few excuses lol

He already has as many sacks as last year. Granted, he only played a few games. But its promising. Robert hasnt played a full season since 2014. Thats really the issue here. Lets hope we get him for more than half a season!

He will probably stink it up for a few games then have 3 sacks against a weak opponent. Rinse and repeat then all the sudden you have a guy with 10 sacks through 12 games and a potential pro bowl. Dominant? Hell No....not like 2013. He had one outstanding season and I suspect that's all he has in him because the game has gone beyond him, the tackles are better, faster, stronger. Game tape probably makes offensive tackles sleep easy. But he can and will sneak through and we cannot dispel his efforts and gamesmanship.

He's gonna be like Stephen Jackson.......revered for his thousand yard seasons. Until you realize he averaged 64 yrds a game for a losing team.

I know this post wont sit well with some of you.....but that's the reality. If Quinn proves me wrong, the we all benefit ......so lets hope I am wrong wrong wrong.

We should realize SJ averaged 77 yards per game as a Ram.

Which is about what Tony Dorsett averaged for the Cowboys.

You had me until this nonsense. Quinn isn't even in the same block as SJ. He's on a top tier DL and SJ was THE weapon and still produced.

Quinn is a great pass rusher in his own right but I'll always maintain chris long made him a better player .... chris was a headache for most RT with an engine that wouldn't stop ... he would always pushing the QB into Quinn's arms

Quinn had one great season. Epic even.
But that was a lifetime ago
Like others on the team, he’s got to turn it around. Can he? Hard to find confidence that he can

He DID have some inside moves once upon a time. The year he put up 19 sacks he made lots of plays stunting to the inside. Williams took over the next year as DC and put Quinn on a steady diet of that long looping edge rush. Quinn went about 5 games w/o a sack until, you guessed it, he stunted inside and sacked wilson vs Seattle.

Sorry guys, I really loved watching Quinn play back then, but the player doesn't exist anymore. He lacks both speed and power these days. He might end up making some plays this year, but I doubt he'll ever be a superstar again.

Last year I suggested the Rams try to trade him before the deadline while we might still be able to get something decent for him. That idea did not go over well.

Having said all that negative stuff, I still hold out hope he has a good game Sunday because I don't think the Rams can win w/o a big game by several of our big players on defense.

I agree with the entire D still getting used to the new scheme especially the players who haven't looked like their old selves, but I'd start looking for Quinn's replacement immediatelly anyway. Barwin's too. Rams need a dominant outside rusher or 2 like Von Miller (or even the old Quinn) pretty badly so these QBs don't have all that time to throw. If stiffs like Hoyer can do that to us, look out.
We may have them in place already in Price and Ekuban (Sp?) . We also need to get another thumper (or A thumper) for the middle of that front 7 next to AO. Ogletree is a run and hit B, not a downhill guy. We need that thumper to basically be that 4th guy on the DL on run downs.

Quinn hasn't faced crap at LT this year
Rarely will you see a crap LT....unless it's G-Rob or Flowers.....LOLOL yep blue font...for me....LOL

Dude hasn't shown any power....or ability to hold/press the edge on runs off tackle....Still looks a lil light to me...wonder what he weighs???? 230 lbs? 240???

Back injuries are NO JOKE

But I believe Robert has the attitude and ABILITY to overcome this....plus...I'd doubt he knows exactly what to do from play to play...

less speed rush, more bullrushes...and he'll be fine.

Couple sacks this week should relax you guys....Smith has looked like garbage this year....best linemen are Fredricks and the RT...Collins...
who we shoulda drafted
