He is not taking snaps away from Ben Sko.

Ben Sko is so far away from Cutch in just his rookie season a lone.

You say he needs to development & then you say one more preseason game like last night(Chargers).

I still say if you want a route runner JJ Koski is the better player. He has to get by Koski first.

Ben Sko passed JJ & has Greg Olson working with him individually one on one after practices.

What other Ram player gets that kind of attention with a position coach. Oh Cooper Kupp & Zac Robinson.

I just see the work to detail that is being put in.I know it’s just playing catch, but they want it to become 2nd nature. —Ben Sko is going to be much improved.

These are the things that are unseen to the general public unless you scout them out yourself.

You won’t see Sko in the preseason at all.
It’s like we were watching a different game, So Ram.

McCutcheon has it all over Skow with hands and catch radius.

Skow is currently the better blocker and ST player so he makes the 53.

But if I’m selecting a pecking order to likely get snaps with Stafford under McVay after last night and reading many glowing camp reports it would look something like this:

Kupp/Robinson as 1A and 1B. A virtual tie for Stafford’s attention.
Healthy Jefferson (maybe by a fingernail)
McCutcheon/Atwell as 4A and 4B. Another virtual tie.
Skowronek. Blocking and ST gets him on the 53.

Powell makes the 53 because of ST but we can call him the 7th WR if you want to.

Harris? Goes to practice squad (and he’ll definitely make it there). Hopefully he can be developed into an NFL WR someday but as of this season he’s just a tease.

Remember, McCutcheon was catching passes from the mediocre passing Perkins. What he accomplished with the contested throws was amazing. Can you imagine what he could do in a McVay schemed game plan while catching passes from Stafford? Goodness.

One thing we know Sko brings that we can't be sure about with the other guys is his willingness and contributions blocking in the run game.

Well I’d wager the 1st 4 games of the season Ben Sko has twice as many catches than Cutch!

You in for some Rod dollars? I’ll give you 2–1 odds as well.

I’d even say the same thing with Tutu Atwell vs. Cutch, but Atwell has had such a good camp I’d almost be willing to say Atwell might have more catches than Ben Sko.

IMO opinion though Tutu will have more TD’s than Ben Sko. I’d say anything DJ1 did last season with The Rams. Game for game Atwell does better.
Ben Sko working with Greg Olsen though only makes me think he will have more catches. He is really trying to make catching the ball second nature for Ben.He has all the talent.

No Sir, It was 3 rookies Snyder @ OC, Logan Bruss @ RG & AJ Arcuri @ RT late in the game.

Arcuri & Snyder make the team IMO.
They have to much upside to risk on the open market.
I missed the 2nd half so wondering your thoughts on his play ? We still have 2 more preseason games to go,but a nice little sample size.
You always know I like your post

I think the problem here is you're comparing McCutcheon's performance in preseason to Skow's performance in the regular season and playoffs.
I also think a lot of people are too focused on a couple of bad reps Skow had.
Skow is a player.. he's a hands catcher. I think comfort level will show that out this year. But here's a link to college stuff that shows his form catching the ball.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nVCSlLGNKQ

McCutcheon certainly has great hands and may very well have better hands than Skow... but he does not have a bigger catch radius. Skow is taller, with longer arms, and bigger hands. It's likely they're 40 times are in the same neighborhood.. but Skow has 15 pounds.

Skow will get a lot of snaps this year at WR. He can line up at multiple spots and punish people blocking.. he's enough of an athlete to get the ball on jet sweeps as well.

I'm not talking McCutcheon down, by the way... I'm super impressed.
I just think people are blowing past Skow.

Anyway.

Harris is more potential than anything else.. but, at this point... is someone else gonna keep him on a 53 if you try to get him to PS? Why? He's done nothing yet and has been hurt.

Jack Snyder did very well behind center Jeremiah Kolone.

AJ Arcuri has good feet & does much better @ OT than OG.

It's obvious to me that Coach Carberry desires to provide Jeremiah Kolone with as many center snaps as possible. Kolone (American Samoan) is a full-size man now @ 27 yrs old 6-2-315/320 pounder who was an OG/NT in HS & an LG @ San Jose State University. He went undrafted in 2018. His body type very similar to Jeff Cankles Zgonina.

I believe Coleman Shelton is Carberry's starting RG. So now getting your reserve back up center ready is paramount from this point on. It's pretty obvious to me that the lead candidate for that position now is Kolone.

From the few snaps Snyder got @ OC, I would still not discount him from making this MR53 if he also balls out when given the opportunity to get snaps @ both OG posts. Snyder who is 6-5/315 looks & plays strongly to me. The next two games watching #64 will be good :pop:stuff. I just do not see McVay going with 3 rookie Ol'ers on the MR53. Jackson {LT/RT/RG/LG}, Anchrum{LG/RT/LT/RG}, Bruss RG & Kolone OC/LG will make NINE !

2 preseason gms to go but if I were to bet I would go with rookies OT Arcuri & OG/OC Snyder being cut & both if still available signed to the 2022 Rams PS along with special PS rider OT Pircher. To crack the Rams' Big 9 Ol'ers as it is most likely now, will take one unbelievable effort.

Folks need to tap the brakes on McCutcheon's performance, while he was a highlight, he was also playing against some pretty pathetic D. And while we are waxing poetic on him, are we willing to keep him instead of signing OBJ?
The answer is no. But I don't think that is the choice.
At this point, it will be Cutch or some other low man on the roster.
The only things keeping OBJ from being on the roster is, is health and contract. Not one of the guys we saw play last night has anything to do with that.

Well... OBJ won't even be available until November, it's likely... so there's plenty of time to evaluate what you've got.

I thought Bruss looked good. I think he still has a good chance to wind up as starting ROG.

It's not surprising he may have had some early growing pains, but all reports suggest as the game unfolded he was looking fine, ... enough to gain praise from McVay. I'm looking forward to his continued development in pre-season games 2 and 3. If one game suggests anything, OL depth is looking pretty good. jmo.

Defense looked just okay especially since it was a 2s &3s on both sides so it should be apples to apples. No big wow plays like everyone said both Perkins and McCutchen and I add Trammel looked good rest average.

Everyone remembers the great preseason game Garrett had but he still has no impact on last season. To me this is same for McCutchen. I hear people saying let's keep 8 wrs that's nuts - no way can we remotely use all of them 5 maybe. We will sacrafice a ILB or a Safety not sure who gets left off the 53 if we keep 8 wrs.

BTW everyone wants OBJ back.

In the run game he was moving the pile pretty good. Just needs to clean up a bit in pass pro

Rams Studs & Duds: QB Bryce Perkins Dazzles, Rookies Have Highs & Lows

There was plenty to get excited about in what was a far-from-perfect preseason opener for the Rams. The Los Angeles Rams got off to a slow start in Saturday's Week 1 preseason "road" game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The Rams didn't score till midway through the second quarter. But once they got rolling, coach Sean McVay's team picked up a 29-22 victory on the same field where their championship dreams came true in February.

There were still some ups and downs, as with any preseason opener. Let's take a look at some of the most notable studs and duds from the Rams' win Saturday night. STUD: UNDRAFTED ROOKIE WR LANCE MCCUTCHEON McCutcheon came out of nowhere to steal the show at SoFi. Along with Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins, the undrafted rookie was the only notable offensive playmaker, as the team likely would've lost the game if not for his contributions. He slowly found a rhythm with a few targets and a catch through most of the first half. But then he provided the play of the night with a high-pointed catch down the left sideline over his defender before breaking two tackles to jog into the end zone for a 60-yard score.

It didn't stop there for McCutcheon, who came through with another impressive contested catch for a successful two-point conversion try as the Rams took a 22-14 lead in the third. All that alone would have made the undrafted rookie's night a flourishing success. But then McCutcheon snagged the go-ahead touchdown on a third-down prayer from Perkins, once again showing he had strong hands as he outmuscled his defender for the grab. The Rams took a 29-22 lead and didn't look back. McCutcheon was responsible for 14 total points. DUD:

ROOKIE MISTAKES Three of the Rams' rookies had some bumps and bruises in their first NFL action. This included the team's top selection, offensive lineman Logan Bruss. Bruss got the start at right guard but felt some early pressure from the Chargers' pass rush. In the first quarter, he lost his balance and got put right on his back after a straight-line rush by defensive lineman Morgan Fox right after the snap. This resulted in Fox grabbing hold of the ankles of Perkins as the Chargers rallied for the sack. Early in the second, Bruss got blown by on the pass rush again, forcing Perkins to step up and take a hard hit against an unblocked man.

Luckily for Bruss, the magical ability of Perkins was on full display as he spun out of multiple would-be tacklers to pick up the first down with his legs. Though Bruss' mishap will be forgotten due to the highlight play, he got beat at the immediate point of attack against just a four-man rush.

Rookie defensive backs Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant, who many on the team raved about during the offseason, also had a few notable mistakes. Kendrick had a pick-six right in his hands as the Chargers were pinned back on their own goal line at the end of the first quarter. He got credited the pass defense, but he dropped an easy interception that was staring him right in the facemask. Durant was a bit quiet, but he missed an open-field tackle that resulted in a first down early in the first quarter. As a whole, the drafted rookies failed to live up to expectations in their debuts.

STUD: QB BRYCE PERKINS Perkins looked like a veteran out there as he seemed to make all the right throws and handled consistent pocket pressure well. He only went 10 of 17 passing but had 133 yards and two touchdowns along with it. On the 60-yard touchdown throw, he showed incredible arm strength and accuracy as he met McCutheon's hands perfectly down the left sideline despite tight coverage. He also shined with his legs as the team's leading rusher, as he posted eight carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. Perkins pulled off a highlight-reel scramble in the second quarter that saw him break multiple sack attempts as he scurried for a first down. In the third, he used a read-option play at the goal line to freeze the defense before walking in for a one-yard score. Perkins showed poise, leadership, and, on top of it all, flat-out ability to make plays happen. His ceiling is only getting bigger.

DUD: RAMS SECONDARY The performance of the two rookie defensive backs was notably underwhelming, but the Rams' secondary played inconsistent football for most of the night. Allowing 236 passing yards and some abysmal blown coverage on both of the touchdowns through the air, the secondary for coordinator Raheem Morris didn't look improved despite the team making a clear attempt this offseason to remedy that part of the defense. The game-sealing interception was one of few positive plays, but it came on a bit of luck as Chargers receiver Michael Bandy didn't maintain a first-down catch before wrestling for the ball to the ground with Rams defensive back Dan Isom, who came away with it. The Rams will take anything to seal the win, including a wacky interception. But it was night from the secondary that left more to be desired.

Amazing what some expect to see from mostly 3'rd stringers, many of whom are rookies, in their very first NFL game of the pre-season.

Jefferson has two years remaining on his contract, I don't believe he would be traded this season while we wait out OBj's recovery, but next year is something else again. VJ having a solid 2022 could easily make him top trade bait heading into 2023. jmo.
Or at the deadline to a team willing to swap an edge rusher. Maybe Minnesota. Two years on Van’s contract makes him more tradeable.

By October they may have a decent idea what they have on the team. If you trade then trade from a surplus position.
