They should have traded him away and hopefully gotten a high draft pick in return. Then someone else would be paying 160 million for an average quarterback that they will be "stuck with for 4 years". He isn't a threat unless he runs and, at his size, he will get hurt (again). His arm is fair, but he can't see well over the taller lineman nor has he shown any leadership skills. And the quarterback needs to be a leader. Murray is average, at best. If I were the Cards, I would have rolled with the draft and rebuilt. JMO

Cardinal fans on suicide watch. I mean unless they fix their line I don’t see Murray playing up to that. I just feel like the NFL is starting to throw money away carelessly, and now inflate top tier guys salaries to 500+ now.
Yes. Just because your next, shouldn't mean your turn to break the bank. Has he done more than Stafford. No! He hasn't even done more than Jimmy g. 160 mil guaranteed. Big fucking gamble.

Would it be inappropriate for me to ask for some context on this one?
Dang it, the tweet meme disappeared on twitter. It was a big guy sliding a small guy across a table of dishes with food, saying something like "AD is happy about your new contract, Kyler."

I'm sure it was hilarious.

Well.. as a Rams fan, I love this deal.

Kyler, when he's good, is incredible. Thing is.. he's very often not good and it looks like he has to be physically 100% to be able to perform.

It's easy to forget the first game last year and some of the plays he made the second time... but I've joined the crowd that just doesn't believe Murray can do it for an entire season. I also think that roster has big questions and love that he's going to take up that much of their contract.

Again.. so good that Stafford didn't try to squeeze every penny out of his deal.

Local guys seemed to be good with it. Mostly because it's done and there is no more ambiguity about the position.

Keim and Bidwell have never struck me as great managers of the cap...this could get ugly in a few years.

A gamble that they've already lost.

Not seen such consistency on a contract signing. No one has rated it well.

Thank you Arizona management for being so lame. There is a blueprint out there on what to do, glad you didn’t take notice.

Same here. They've got so much future money coming in that some teams are being careless. The whole idea that a team needs a good QB also has allowed marginal guys like Murray to hold their team hostage. Next up Lamar Jackson.

What's interesting is that QB contracts far outpace inflation. So a smart an could take less money and still be rich beyond his dreams, allowing his GM to build a great winning team around him. Instead selfishness and greed are what's most important to them.

BTW. Funny post. "I don't see Murray playing up to that." :laugh1:

Was that intentional?

I've said all along that I'd trade him. He has serious limitations that enable good teams to cancel out his sand lot style. A fun trade would have Bern Murray for Lamar Jackson! Hollywood Brown wanted out of Baltimore so he could play with a QB that could pass the ball. What a fun situation that would be.

Last year's QB is as good as Kyler will ever be. He has zero incentive to improve in ANY WAY. If they are losing and he gets even a minor ding he will go and pout. He can't say no to Kliff who will reinstitute he designed runs into the offense. He got away from that last year. Kyler will get pissy and he won't try to stretch runs and take a hit.

My prediction is that in two maybe three seasons he will be so banged up he won't finish any season.

Gotta love how Keim and Bidwell just flush good money after bad because they are clueless. Kyler's money will begin to impact their ability to build a championship team around him. They will be forced to build through the draft and they suck at drafting. I'm predicting that after this year the Cards will only be in contention for 3rd place in the NFCW.

One of my neighbor's daughters was trying to earn money for a car so she held a carwash in his driveway. I was standing there talking to her father and another guy who was waiting and we were talking NFL. The 3rd guy was a diehard Cards fan but even he knew Kyler was now going to be expected to run as he did early in his career to justify the money. He was drafted as a "dual threat" QB not a pocket passer. We all figured Kliff will return to his RPO offense he abandoned last year. We also all agreed that Kyler was going to take a beating and probably would miss games every year. The guy whose daughter was washing cars was saying he wished they had Lamar Jackson because he was a better QB and he was 6'2" and over 200 lbs. I laughingly agreed.

We all agreed the Cards will be lucky to get a WC berth with Kyler. I pointed out that the Cards will have to restructure or release a whole lot of guys to "officially" sign Marquise Brown and Murray both. Neither is on the roster because they don't have the cap space. They have a whole lot of high-priced vets. How do they intend to keep them? I pointed out that there will probably a talent drain in AZ over the next few years. So Kyler's window to win is this year, and maybe next year but not beyond that. It's a high price to pay for a two year window, especially in the same division as the Rams.
