Ben McAdoo's keycard will stop working Monday.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the embattled New York Giants head coach has been informed he's been relieved of his duties.

The Giants have also fired general manager Jerry Reese, NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reported.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will take over as interim head coach and Kevin Abrams as GM the rest of the season, per Kinkhabwala.

The news comes a day after the Giants lost their 10th game of the season, a 24-17 defeat in Oakland.

"I'm going to coach this team as long as my key card works," McAdoo said after the loss. "You know, we've got a great group of players, the coaches, we've got a great staff to work with. We're going to show up ready to go tomorrow and get this thing cleaned up and move on to the next one."

McAdoo's firing comes less than two seasons into his tenure and just a year after helping guide Big Blue to a playoff berth in 2016. The 40-year-old will finish with a 13-15 record as the Giants' coach. New York has the NFL's biggest decline in winning from 2016 to 2017, a .521 win percent decrease. The Giants have had one of the worst offenses in the NFL since McAdoo was hired as the head coach, scoring just 17.8 points per game and ranking 30th in the NFL in total yards per tilt (314.7) -- only the Browns and Bears have scored fewer PPG since 2016, per NFL Research.

The Giants are cleaning house not only due to the play on the field but also after bungling the benching of Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith.

Rapoport reported Sunday that some members of the Giants ownership did not agree with how Manning's situation was handled this week and there was intense and serious internal debate about firing McAdoo.

Ditching a coach and GM in the middle of the season is an uncharacteristic move for the Giants organization, but underscores the fractured relationships throughout every level of the franchise.

The change in gears came swift in New York. Ownership put out a statement in mid-November supporting the coach, saying it would wait until after the season to evaluate the situation. Following the botched Manning situation, however, the tenor began to change. Owner John Mara said Wednesday there were "no guarantees" McAdoo's job was safe.

Days later the Giants fired the coach and general manager.

Guess ol' 4 pillars is just as good a choice as anybody else for the dreaded "interim" label...As much as anything, I just chuckled over what a douche McIdiot was talking about how "everybody from him up" was on board about this move...Oh really ??? 3 days later, or whatever, he's out the door...Either that or Mara quickly found out just how iconic Eli is with the New York fans and decided he better throw McMoron under the bus...Though certainly McShitstain and Reese were gone after the season...

Giants co-owner John Mara insisted on Monday that the way Ben McAdoo handled the organizational decision to look at quarterbacks not named Eli Manning had nothing to do with the organizational decision to deactivate McAdoo’s key card with four games left in the season.

Mara did say that he was cognizant of how upset fans were about the decision and mentioned a desire to avoid an ugly scene at this Sunday’s game against the Cowboys related to Manning watching while Geno Smith plays, but said it was up to interim coach Steve Spagnuolo to make a call. It appears Spagnuolo has made the call and it’s unsurprisingly one that should placate the angry masses.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team held meetings on Tuesday to set the game plan for this week and finalized the decision to move Manning back into the starting lineup. It will be the 211th start of Manning’s career, but the one-week break means he’ll be at the back of the list when it comes to consecutive starts.

Mara made it clear on Monday that he had signed off on a plan to give Smith and rookie Davis Webb playing time before McAdoo told Manning and made it public. The Giants’ hope was that Manning would start games before giving way to one of the other quarterbacks, but Manning balked at such an idea. It’s unclear if there will be any attempt to see what Webb can do in the final four weeks, although it’s hard to see what would have changed about the rationale Mara was on board with at this point last week.

Either target an FA next year or draft the next Kamara (spelling). Imagine this offense with this capability...

My draft as GM would focus next year on a future LT, a change of pace back, and Defense.

Just thinking about Sproles, Whitehead, Riddick, Kamara... makes me drool.

Well the first thing that came to mind when I heard the turd was going to fight it was "must be a big time game next week and they don't want him to miss it". But it's Miami. The Steelers are the following week and if he ends up sitting for that game it could end up costing them home field if they lose and end up with the same record.

Which by the way, is very likely since the rest of the games both of these teams have are a cakewalk. The Steelers have the Ravens but they have an inflated record IMO. That's a 5-7 team that's caught some lucky breaks.

So his dick move could hurt the team because there is a good chance it's for home field advantage.

I don't know if he has more, but Goff is willing to throw the ball out of bounds if nothing is available. It's very smart and I don't know if he was loike that in college, maybe someone can weigh in on that. If he wasn't like that in college then good job on the coaches to get him to minimize risks.

The comment about the sun on the helmets. It's why I love the old 80's yellow horns on the dark blue. Man those things would pop in the sun. Such a clear memory. Walking in a Rams day game for the first time. My eyes settled right in Everett throwing a warmup pass to Pete Holohan. Those yellow horns just popping in the sun.

Comparing our guys:

Mark Barron 6'2" 225 lbs.
Samson Ebukam 6'3" 240 lbs.
Bryce Hager 6'1" 237 lbs.
Alec Ogletree 6'2" 235 lbs.

Having seen Hager live yesterday, he looked small lined next to Barron.

Now, compare our backers to guys like:

Luke Kuechly (Panthers) 6'3", 235 lbs.
Bobby Wagner (Seahawks) 6'0", 241 lbs.
Deonne Bucannon (Cards) 6'1", 216 lbs.
Derrick Johnson (Chiefs) 6'3", 242 lbs.
Danny Trevathon (Broncos) 6'1", 231 lbs.

All are similar size compared to our guys. IMO, Ogletree and Barron have been able to use their speed to overcome their size. Sometimes it looks like they want to sidestep the blocker rather than step into the point of attack and close the gap/hole. When they sidestep the blocker, they expose the second level for big gains. I don't think we necessarily need a bigger body, rather someone who will step into the point of attack and close the hole/gap. Middle backers have the mentality of playing smash football. Remember Ogletree played outside until last season, and Barron played safety most of his career until coming to the Rams. They are still learning how to play between the tackles. I'm not saying they are the long-term solution to playing in the middle, and Wade will be able to get someone to will help with inside play next season.
