Nice post @DaveFan'51. (y)

Been tracking our stats week to week as we've gone forward. Defense has improved for the most part, although of late (last 3 games) they're giving up a bit more than I'd like to see (20ppg). But overall we're still under that 19ppg mark (18.5 T-7th with Seattle), so we're in a really good spot. Also of note is that our defense has been more stout at home (15.8 allowed at home vs 20.4 away). That's clearly due to strength of opposing offenses, but still that's a big split. Oh and for reference last year's defense gave up 24.6 ppg overall which was horrific when coupled with our offense.

Offensively we're T-1st at 30.1 ppg with Philly. Last 3 games have been rough on the offense as well (21.7). Last year's offense was at 14.0 ppg. Which is insane. I doubt any team has had that one-year turnaround in league history greater than what this team is currently pacing at. Once the season's over we'll know for sure, but man. What a difference.

And quick note on this Eagles team... They're averaging 25.2 ppg away in scoring offense, and 20.7 ppg away in scoring defense.

Celebration Thread: Rams @ Cardinals

I actually have a different take on alcohol...

I think they should make it affordable INSIDE the stadium and not allow alcohol in tailgates.

That way, people could buy beer, but they wouldn't enter the stadium toasted (with the current limits, even if it were affordable, you don't wanna miss the game for beers, although some alcoholics will miss anything for a sip of sterno...).

I mean, if anyone NEEDS to drink beer or hard liquor at 9-10 am and they didn't just finish a nightshift at the ER... then something's just wrong that football can't fix.
Mac, first time in Az.....first Rams game since....maybe 1990....this is maybe 2011 or 2010...I'm in the parking lot fans drinking everywhere...I go in early....wanted to see pregame stuff....people that sit next to me arrive at the end of the first quarter...LIT!!!!! And I mean women in there 50's or 60's.....LIT....drunker than shit....wearing Cards red....talking about the tailgating....I got to the game around 11:30....and everyone was drinking....These women next to me said they arrived at 9am...and had been drinking....LOL....I know they left early too...after a JJ pick 6...think it was his 2nd of the game....Where were they going??? Back to the lot to finish eating and drinking....it's insane....

but I'm not one to end a tradition just cause I'm new or don't understand it....but damn...if this is older women....what the hell do the kids do????

Week 14 power rankings

These rankings just make me laugh.
For a decade and a half when these rankings came out we’d argue that we were better than the #29 ranking, that we were at least 24 or 25...

That's because I wasn't creating the rankings then. I do now, and they are so much better. Take a look yourself:

McVay might prepare Rams for silent snap counts because L.A. fans are outnumbered

Yeah i'm outta here in just a few years when both my daughters are over 18. Either Flagstaff or the Northwest.
I'm so tired of 9 months of summer, 3 months of scorched Earth and no seasons. No rain except for quick monsoons in summer and one week in December, sunny sunny sunny and more sunny. 48 years of this crap.

The transplants can have it. I understand why they love it here.
It's all relative though.

Same here in FL except instead of 9 months of summer and 3 months of scorched earth, we get 9 months of crotch rot and swamp foot followed by 3 months of milder crotch rot and swamp foot that draws half of every old person in the nation to drive insanely bad and complain at every person in every store...

Oh, and the craziest people on the planet are native Floridians. It's not even a diss, it's just a fact of life. They even have a game here, Alien or Floridian, where you have to guess in a story is the news story made up about aliens or did it actually happen in Florida to a native Floridian. I thought it'd be easy and fun. I barely got half right and I won going away.

Totally agree that the transplants can have it.

Jared Goff, Sean McVay push back against claims that Rams’ play-calling is ‘cheating’ or ‘immoral’

If you don't believe me, come to Austin and ask the hardcore UT fans around here ... I guarantee what you get from them will be far more critical than anything I wrote.
I believe you....not sure if it's true. 11 -2 record as a Sr. and Jr.....think he beat....who was it, last game of his college career?

You're a Texas guy....so you may be familiar with Clayton Kershaw....a pretty famous pitcher....pretty good too....bunch of guys I know....and some I don't....only through what they write, consider him a "choke artist" in the post-season..... I can't defend Clayton's postseason record....or performances....All I can say is, he helped get us here...Do I think he's a choker.....meh...maybe....but people that try to defend or condemn him...I can see both sides....he has under performed in the postseason....year after year. But he's also had some very good 5 or 6 innings in playoff baseball.

What Philly RADIO is saying...

The Eagles have twice beaten a Redskins team that beat both us and Seattle... They're good enough to beat anyone when they're playing well.
Correct, but we're playing at a much higher level in all facets of the game than in week two. I think if you ask ROD At Least 90% of members will say we beat the Redskins home or away at this point.

The Rams have the advantage on D and special teams. Philly has a better O.

The Los Angeles Chargers: A Team Without A Home

Yeah I'd have to think they pack it in during the playoffs, since the fair weathered types probably include the ones with the money to pay for 2x priced tickets for a family or even couple. The model at large though pretty much excludes blue collar types, who are the ones that are the rabid fans for the most part and who know when to make noise and a hostile environment. Instead they're stuck with golf clappers drinking chardonnay in the stands like we see with the 9ers. That's a problem IMO.

The bigger problem for the Chargers, though, is their QB is old as F. Said this last year, that they should be worried about their future five years not right now. But when you look at their roster moves it's all about squeezing wins now to "win the battle for LA" instead of realizing the battle is going to take place over a lot of years which is going to require a QB.

If you compare the two teams, the Rams have a young QB in place and a young roster around him on offense (2nd youngest roster in NFL), and the LAC have an aging QB who is inconsistent, and the fourth oldest roster in the league. Take a look out a few years to that opening of the new stadium, and it's not hard to see where the chips are gonna fall.

IMO Spanos team has a crash coming at some point in the next 2-3 seasons when Rivers hangs em up. That's gonna be a situation where the HC and staff probably get cleaned out too and most likely a rebuild while the new QB comes online. Lot of ugliness ahead for the LAC as far as I can see.

No sympathy for Spanos' Chargers..I hope they fail spectacularly, and have to move out LA...I don't care where, as long as it's out of LA.

Couple of questions for the board “deeper thinkers”...

That point keeps iterating in my mind as well, whether it be Austin running up the middle, Brown and Dunbar's health, Gurley getting most if not all of the snaps and a reluctance to rush the football yet the draft Sam Rogers and put him on the practice squad.

7th round or not, what role did they have in mind when they drafted him?
Good Question here..... IMO Sam was drafted to play the Move Back Derek Carrier role. McVay was able to get Carrier & that pushed Sam out of the 2017 picture. Sam was never going to be anything other than a 2 to 3 carry a game role. I also think he was drafted to be a special teams player but up to this time there has not been any real need of course all of this is positive not negative on Sam.

One would expect that McVay will try to resign Derek Carrier when his contract end here in 3 months too. I would also think that Sam will be offered a 2018 contract too econo valued. Sam is sure to be that much better & bigger when the 2018 TC gets under way where he will get an opportunity to have a bigger role with this team .

Both Lance Dunbar & Malcolm Brown will enter the FA'cy but Dunbar is sure to not return whereas Brown will be a highly likely resign.Dunbar $1.5 million spent for his non services is sure to leave a bad taste in the Ram Org. His knee must be damaged far more than anyone thought. But the Dallas Cowboys knew. Sam has a better chance to play if he can play RB/FB position.

Next season the Rams stand to bring five MCVay type TE/Move Backs...Gerald Everett, Tyler Higbee, Temarrick Hemingway, Derek Carrier & Johnny Mundt. Not much room for Sam to get much room here but he will get a chance With the possible departures of 3 Ram RB's by 2018 regular season beginning .

Gurley will already enter his 4th season in 2018 & is sure to get his 5th yr first round extension or a complete new multi million $5 yr contract @ sometime in late 2018. Rams will need to make plans to reduce his work load in the 2nd & 3rd quarters of the Game. Gurley has taken a beating thus far but remains operational thanks to Dunbar's MIA action & Brown bad knee.

If Austin Davis fails to pick up the #1 priority assignment of a Ram RB....last line of protection for Goff then Davis will be joining the WWC's when the 2018 season begins. Rams do have 5 or 6 third day draft selections where they can replace all three of this season roster spots ...Lance Dunbar, Austin Davis & Tavon Austin if desired.

Here's just one Draft site's comments on this Ram 6th rd selection:
A little ball of aggression. Able to play on all three downs. Has experience as ball carrier, pass catcher, pass protector and lead blocker. Can block from multiple sets and formations. Consistently productive for three consecutive years. Low center of gravity provides additional power as a runner. Carries good acceleration and knee bend to his target. Viable play-action pass catching fullback. Gives good effort as a blocker. Able to stuff and seal on down blocks from wingback spot.

How bout that Vegas hockey team eh?

So Merlin -- when the Kings roll in to Vegas for a game against the Golden Knights, where will your loyalties lie?

BTW, I think the biggest coup the VGK made was landing Gerard Gallant as their HC. I think the Panthers messed up big-time when they fired him during last season. As long as their ownership/GM braintrust are in place, the Panthers will be a dysfunctional crap show.

Gallant is a good coach who got a raw deal at his last gig -- I think Vegas is in good hands.

Damn didn't see this post before sorry man. I've been pulling for the VGK, miss some of the Kings stuff and whatnot but it's just really nice to have a team down the street.

Oh and btw for any of you on twitter, the VGK account is a great follow. Here's a recent example lol:

Not having Brown has dialed down the high-poweredness of O

You know how to run a 9 and a deep cross, right? Point A to point B? Then I'm sure Tavon does too. In fact, we've seen him do it before.

I understand he's a square peg right now. I don't really need to be reminded of that. My question is more about why his (fastest in the league) speed isn't necessarily being taken advantage of. Like, at all. I'd understand if we tried those things and he failed at it, but that's just not the case.

Ooh. Speaking of Case.

En Fuego.

My assumptions have been exactly what you said which is that is all Tavon is capable of doing. Point a to point b with no deviation . Where McVay wants to have complete flexibility at the line of scrimmage in pass plays. Tavon gets called to do a cross route but they line up like they do and in a few seconds Goff changes the play once or twice in this last ten seconds before the snap and maybe having Tavon out there always limits that aspect because he can only do one or two things?

I honestly don't know, it is puzzling they can't figure out some role in the passing game. But my assumption is his lack in it is due to his inability to be flexible at a moments notice whether due to bad route running or simply not able to process quick enough.

Or maybe McVay just likes having someone else short on the sidelines all the time so he doesn't look out of place. But Joyner is starting so that can't be it.
