Dez seems like that guy on your Call of Duty team that waits for his teammates to go in shooting first, so he can snipe em all from 100 yards away and then complains to his teammates when he gets backstabbed by the enemy cuz no one had his back.

Cowboys-Rams practice brawls leave both teams searching for answers
By Todd Archer
ESPN

OXNARD, Calif. -- The Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams were unable to finish their second joint practice Tuesday because of a pair of brawls that has Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones wondering if there is something the Competition Committee can do in the future to help prevent them.

"I can't imagine that we can't continue to have joint practices and get this right just like we do a lot of things," said Jones, who is on the committee with Rams coach Jeff Fisher. "But we're going to have to continue to emphasize that stuff is not what we want. It should not be a part of our game. It's not good for either team. Obviously, there are huge injury risks. We've just got to learn from it. I'd hate to think two teams can't get together.

"When you see the energy level out here with the fans, they enjoy it watching the teams play. I do think we can continue to do this. I just think we have to emphasize we don't want this in our game."

The NFL has made eliminating in-game fighting a point of emphasis this year to teams, but Jones said training-camp fights were not part of the discussions.

Tuesday's brawls happened in team drills between the Cowboys defense and the Rams offense on back-to-back plays.

The first fight was triggered by Cowboys linebacker Andrew Gachkar and Rams center Demetrius Rhaney, which then led to a multi-pronged fight that a number of players, including the Cowboys' Randy Gregory, Jeff Heath, Tyler Patmon and the Rams' Jared Cook, Tre Mason, Tavon Austin and others. Defensive end Eugene Sims ran across the field and leveled Cowboys defensive end Ben Gardner.

The second fight came on play later and lasted a few minutes and led to a helmet-less Dez Bryant getting punched by Rams cornerback Imoan Claiborne. Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley, who is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, was also involved.

Eventually Cowboys coach Jason Garrett and Fisher decided to end practice. The Cowboys finished their team period against each other while the Rams sat on the adjoining field and eventually made their way to the team buses.

"There is no excuse for it," Fisher said. "You can't blame it on anybody. It just happened. Fortunately nobody got hurt."

Garrett, who was displeased with his team's performance in Monday's practice, declined to comment after Tuesday's work. He didn't necessarily discourage the flare-ups with players.

"Way to show fight," defensive end Jeremy Mincey said of Garret's postpractice input. "It's always good to show fight but we got to be composed in situations like that and stay away from that. Fight with the pads and focus on the game."

While Garrett has T-shirts with the word "fight" on it, it is not meant to be taken literally. Monday's practice had a few shoving matches but Tuesday's work was much more lively on both fields and eventually boiled over.

Bryant, who did not practice because of a hamstring strain, however, found himself in the middle of the fracas, running to the aid of his defensive teammates from the other field. Like he did in a fight with Patmon earlier in camp, he could not let it go and continued to yell at Rams players eventually retriggering things.

"You've got to catch it early," Stephen Jones said. "There are no right answers. If there were right answers we would address it and get it fixed. It is a point of emphasis. At the end of the day it comes down to fines and sitting people down for games. Certainly it's easier to do in a game. How we handle this situation out here, as a competition committee, as a league, as the Dallas Cowboys, Jason, Jerry (Jones) and I have to huddle up and say how we're going to prevent this in the future."

The Cowboys had a fight erupt at a practice last year with the Oakland Raiders that saw an Oakland fan swing a replica helmet at a Cowboys player. This year Rams receiver Daniel Rodriguez picked up J.J. Wilcox's helmet and tossed it in the stands.

"I would be the first one to say I would love come back and practice against the Cowboys again because they are a talented team and first-class organization," Fisher said.

Dez is like that little chihuahua that hides behind the security door, inside the house, barking at the pit bull shitting on his lawn like he's gonna do something.

I am embarrassed to be a Rams fan if you watch the number of cheap shots thrown by Ram players in that video.
Its one thing to stand up for a teammate or to have someone's back....but that does NOT extend to hitting a guy IN the back when they are not looking.

Bunch of punk ass bitches who should be cut or fined the maximum amount allowed, most disappointing?
Looks like a tie for me - Stedman Bailey (one of the cheap shots was him) and Todd Gurley (STAY OUT OF SCRUMS WHILE STILL REHABBING YOUR KNEE!!!)

The main cheap shot I saw was by Eugene Sims. Didn't see the Bailey one.

Practice Report 8/18: Long Feeling Healthy, Faster
By Myles Simmons

View: http://www.stlouisrams.com/news-and-events/article-practicereport/Practice-Report-818-Long-Feeling-Healthy-Faster/2b44eba7-60c4-408c-87d2-930228139399

OXNARD, Calif. -- The Rams finished up their two-day session with the Cowboys on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the big storylines heading into the joint practices was the Cowboys’ offensive line squaring off against the Rams’ defensive line. Both units are regarded as among the best in the league. Defensive end Chris Long said he felt his squad was able to improve by facing such a quality front.

“I thought it was a great battle,” Long said. “They’re really at the top of their game. They’ve got one of the best young players in Zack [Martin]. … And they’ve got Tyron [Smith] at left tackle, who is a leader at his position. And certainly we’ve got two of the best guys in the league at their positions in Aaron [Donald] and Rob [Quinn]. And we’re very deep, and they’re deep as well. So it was a good matchup.”

Long, who has practiced sparingly during camp but was on the field for both Oxnard sessions, said he’s feeling not only healthy, but also faster as the season approaches.

“I feel good. I dropped some weight this year to try to be quicker,” Long said. “And I feel like playing at that weight, I can be productive and really get off the ball and cause problems.”

In all, Long said he felt like the team got a lot out of a competitive two days with another team.

“It was unique,” Long said of the experience. “I hadn’t done that in seven years, and it was good for me as a player. I hadn’t practiced in a while, and you practice against guys than you see all camp. And that’s what you’re going to see every week, is different guys. So having to come here, hit the ground running, and play different guys who have different sets, and play things differently -- it’s good for you.”

“That’s a good football team over there. They won 12 games,” head coach Jeff Fisher said. “We’re a young team and we matched up and we got some things done. There were some great one-on-one battles, and some great team efforts, and great special teams work. So it was extremely valuable.”

FINISHING PRACTICE EARLY

The Rams and Cowboys ended up with an early finish to their second joint session after both teams got heated during 11-on-11.

“We had a day and about three-quarters and we had really good work. And then, unfortunately, things got out of hand and we shut it down,” head coach Jeff Fisher said. “There’s no excuse for it. We can’t blame it on anybody -- it just happened. One thing led to another and it happened.”

It was an unfortunate situation, and everyone was relieved that both teams came away uninjured.

“Fortunately, nobody got hurt. I think both teams came out of two good practice sessions healthy,” Fisher said. “We got a lot of good work and it’s unfortunate about the end.”

“We’ll get it corrected,” Fisher continued. “There’s no place for that in our game. There’s no place for that from the standpoint of being role models in this game and representing this game for kids. There’s no place. That’s now how this game goes. And so, we’re sorry about that. And I know Jason [Garrett, Cowboys head coach], would echo the same thing.”

WEDNESDAY’S PRACTICE CANCELED

Earlier on Tuesday, the team canceled its solo practice in Oxnard, scheduled for Wednesday morning. Fisher said a significant part of the reason why was the fatigue that’s set in over the long road trip. The Rams left St. Louis last Thursday to head to Oakland for the first preseason game.

“We had originally planned on coming back out here tomorrow. The Cowboys have a day off and we were going to use the facility. We decided against that,” Fisher said. “We’ve got a tired team. We’re going to emphasize recovery.”

The team will instead stage a walk thru before heading back to St. Louis. The rest of the practice week will remain as scheduled.

“We’ll [practice at] 5:30 on Thursday,” Fisher said. “Friday is a players’ day off. And then we’ll come in [on Saturday] to have a walk thru and travel down to Nashville.”

VISITING PT. MUGU

Before the club boards the plane to get back to Missouri, the Rams will visit with soldiers from Naval Air Station Point Mugu for around an hour. It’s going to be a special occasion for players and coaches alike.

“It’s something that was part of this trip,” Fisher said. “Once we agreed to come here, we kind of looked around and said, ‘Where are they?’ And we found that they were close. So we’re going to spend some time with them tomorrow.”

“It’s awesome to be able to be with the military, anytime we do it,” linebacker James Laurinaitis said. “When we do it back in St. Louis -- it’s one of my favorite things at the end of camp when we go over there. So to be there and to sign autographs for our troops, it just puts life in perspective. We’re out here playing a game that we love, and they’re the ones who are defending our country.

“I wish that would kind of be flipped around,” Laurinaitis added. “We could be getting their autographs in a way to really salute them.”

Maybe my post best deserves to go in this one (http://ramsondemand.com/threads/jl-whipping-boy.39048/), but this is a fantastic example why JL55 is our MLB and captain. When everyone else bails, he stays and finishes the drill alone. If it's not for the team, he's at least trying to better himself. We need more players like Laurinaitis on this team and less young thug-wannabe assholes.
