Your team won and he looked great DV. No need to defend his honor there on what is clearly the way to play him.

Sure he was making throws from the pocket yesterday. But it's better to have that MFer in the pocket than running around. The book on him always has been and always will be to keep him in the pocket and take away early reads.
I like & appreciate you guys, but I just don’t like ignorance, lol. You want to keep him in the pocket, but he’s not Colin Kaepernick there. He’s very good there, he’s just phenomenal outside of it.

He is good enough to make a couple tight window throws a game but if you put pressure on him AND (this is the most important part which we able to do the last few years) keep contain on him from going outside (which we did a fricken shitty ass job yesterday), he collapses and becomes an ordinary QB.
So every QB that played from pee-wee all the way to professional ball?

The good news is that Morris fucked up the contain scheme SO BADLY, there's no way to "aw shucks" this.

I mean, I've read a bunch now (much less than normal as I'm not inclined to filter out this new "Kylerlingus" the media thinks is the new rage) and even the least football educated could easily see that the Rams had no contain all game.

Pretty sure McVay is gonna need a mouthguard to keep from breaking his gritting teeth when he watches that defense.

I expect that our D will look significantly different on Thursday.

It is that confidence in McVay that sustains me. Morris' scheme on Sunday surely sucked, but damn if McVay isn't one of those obsessive competitors who's not gonna let AZ run away with the division.

Yeah but we have been able to contain him the last few years. This game we sucked at it.

Let's agree to look at Thursday's game.

If we are able to contain Wilson, then I will accept that Murray has grown as a QB and is able to get away from even great defenses that can contain him. However, if we don't contain Wilson, then I will be of the belief that our defense sucks with Morris and that Murray can be contained with a good DC coordinator. You can disagree with that, but that will be my belief.

I think all teams have stinker games like Memphis (I think ) said in another thread. The Bucs were 7-5 and got beat 38-3 by the Saints on National TV. Guess who still won the SB? Is the D a concern? yeah because they are giving up yards to EVERY team so far. The difference yesterday was we couldn't keep it to just yards, they were scoring a ton. And the 3, 3rd and 15+ we gave up are just momentum killers.
But we also did something we don't normally do which is turn the ball over. Not to mentioned the 10+ points we left out there. So the game could of been much different (at least come down to the last few minutes. Instead, we sucked. It happens..
What I think we all want to see is how to they respond on a short week. If we go up and play well and beat Seattle in their back yard then I think we can chalk it up to just a bad game. If we go play like this again then we might have an issue.

But I think one thing we all have to realize is simple, AZ is a lot better this year. They aren't going anywhere. IMO, the two best teams in the NFC west just played and it'll come down to them in the end.

If Wilson is able to run free this Thursday, then I will be positive it is Morris defense that allowed this Midget to do so well.

Let's see what happens this Thursday. We have usually done an excellent job containing Wilson.
We HAVE done an excellent job.

Now we have Morris' scheme, and PTSD for AD from Wilson busting up his ribs with his butt.

He looks like a legit MVP QB - if you can keep Murray healthy, you will win it all this year or in the near future.

It helps you were going against a worse OL with worse weapons.

Russell & Kyler are still rather different players, working with way different personnel & scheme, so this is some weird logic, but if you say so.

Just a comment on McVay's not adjusting. I agree to some extent, but it's not a complete Martz-ian level brain fart.

Yes, he could/should have chosen to run a few more running plays (empty backfield on 4th down so D doesn't have to respect the run? WTF?), but I think we are discounting the horrible game Stafford had, and the key drop by Kupp at the worst time. Also, I would add the untimely fumble by Michel. Without these things, this O would have put up 40 points yesterday.

Drilling down on Stafford, though. Yikes. I'm the biggest Stafford honk, but that was beyond the worst game I thought he could have. Guys were open and he just MISSED them. Point. Blank. Missed. Them.

I'm going to take out my juju gear and wipe away the evil spirits from that game, hoping he only has "off" games in the future, not complete meltdowns.

The Rams D looked slow yesterday. I was thinking they relaxed too much all week listening to ESPN refer to them as the top team in the NFC. It went to their heads and they got trounced.

Well we have been able to container both Kyler and Russell in past years so if we can't do it this year, then I blame the DC

He's good there but he's better and MUCH more dangerous running to the outside with his head up. That's why keeping him in the pocket is a good idea. Also, if you get him scrambling North/South he's more susceptible to injury.

7 to 10 yard off coverage is just killing me

They were okay with it in the earlier games because their red zone defense was awesome in those games

Not so much yesterday

We are going to see how good McVay is real soon.
The soft coverage is starting to piss me off. Just giving them chunks.
Bad games happen. I find it hard to believe that both Stafford and the Midget were in the MVP consideration but after one game Stafford is a pile and the wanna be Russel is top dog.
Please, its one game.
The plays were there for Matthew, just execute. Like I said, it did not look like the Cards D was going to stop us early. Clean up a few things and the game is a shootout that either team can win, at worst.
Our DC needs to pull his head out. Very talented cover secondaries need to be up in receivers faces for good parts of the game.
The chunk runs were there for us too.
Sky is not falling.

Neither strike me as being that kind of person. Nor have I ever heard anything to suggest that. Just the opposite in fact.

Maybe McVay, Stafford, Kupp & Morris just went out and got drunk together Saturday night.
Actually, I would find this easier to accept than most of the other excuses.
