They signed a return guy from Philly last year but, didn't make the last cut before the season. Not a good enough receiver. Then he was back on Philly and doing well.

You can usually get one of the best returners, "available" in the draft for a sixth or seventh round draft pick.

But he is IMO a very good change of pace WR4. Great hands and speed. But he will never win a contested pass and Could be knocked out at any time he hits the ground.
This is why I coveted Conception in the draft so much. Immediately we'd have had one of the best returners in the NFL AND a very electric offensive weapon. I'm very content with the Simpson pick however, but, would have tried to move heaven and earth to get Conception also.

IMO Staff has no problem throwing to tutu. To my eyes, he targets him and trusts that he'll make the catch under 20 yards and is good at picking up the PI 30 yards+.
This is what I thought Bubba was getting at in the presser. He was saying they had no plans to replace Xman as the returner, meaning the plan was to get rid of Xman if he didnt get it right. I dont remember his exact words, but the way I took it was he wasnt going to be replaced, he was going to be gone.
But if you listen to what Bubba said, it sounded like he was saying Xman would get it right or be gone. He was right, they didnt replace him, they cut him.Just yesterday Ventrone said they have no thought of replacing Xavier, that they "have a lot of trust in X," and that he thinks "he'll be able to do the necessary things to be able to sustain at that position for us."
He hasn't done anything yet so it's a bit early to crown him one of the best returns in the NFL. He looked quick last night. Let's see how he does the rest of the year.

Yeah and I saw him catch a ball underneath and get some tough yards the other night for Cleveland. Kid looks good overall and they also came out of the draft with Boston. They also have Jeudy and Fannin. Judkins in the backfield. That's a talented offense.
How is Presley not getting the call on return???
Hate to see anyone lose their job but the Xavier Smith era had to end. I think McVay went out on a limb to give him a second chance because he didn’t want to pin the blame of the NFC Championship game on him. Unfortunately Smith didn’t play in the preseason and if he did we wouldn’t be waiting till game 4 to cut a guy who has the yips and is scared shitless of catching a punt. I understand resting your starting core but backups and special teams specialist should be playing in the preseason.
So, ok... X is gone. Fine with it, but man does this feel like small ripple in a tsunami to me. There are SO many more issues on ST. It's weird how bad they are.

No spunk. Even during the Fisher days ST seemed more cohesive and exciting, even though we were kicking 10 FGs a game. Lazy, too good to play ST type attitude. Shit needs to change. ASAP
