If the reason Davis didn't make the field last year was due to an inability to block, then dude better have learned how to do it or he's gone (and should be) Little Tavon Austin was a good blocker and he was blocked guys downfield allowing for TD's . Davis has to have "the want to"...no excuses.

I am still excited about Kelly, because he does it all. I think there will be little letdown for the Rams when Gurley gets a breather with Kelly going in as a pass catcher, RB, or blocker (maybe needs a little work here too). He is shifty and quick, but won't probably get the 70 yard TD...but he will get a 50 yard run instead of the TD, which I think we could all live with for a starter OR a back up.

Sounds like our RB depth will be fiercely contested down to the 4th spot.

Think of it. Three RB’s competing for that 4th spot!

Man, this roster has come a looooong way in 2 offseasons. Tavon who? Lol.

Kelly has proven that he can at least be a good backup to Gurley on third downs.
Proven????:unsure::thinking:
I know LA Champ is not high on Bryce Hager., but McVay talked very highly of both players.
Nope....not me.....I actually LIKE Hagar...I keep telling you guys, that kid can run. I figure if they grabbed all these players at his position....something he does, coach Barry doesn't like. I gotta read that LB thread.

I still think Davis is a better runner than all of these guys...if he's stronger...and has a will to do EVERYTHING....he should make it.

Brown has proven he is an NFL player & can handle the back up duties when called upon.He is a core special teams guy & a total aprovement over a player like Chase Reynolds!!

Kelly should be the back up , but M. Brown is worthy of being accountable

So how many RBs do we carry? Brown is a completely different back than Kelly or Rose. Brown actually can come in as a three down Back if Gurley has problems. I don’t see either Kelly or Rose fitting in the actual back up role to Gurley.
I would think McVay would use Brown as a relief Man and Kelly and Rose as " Change-of-Pace" Backs. JMO

One won't be on team in any fashion
One will end up on the practice squad,
One will be a game-day inadrive
That leaves three for game-day roster
Now who goes where?

I'll bet he doesn't make the roster, he isn't going to get out that dog house I bet.

I agree as long as he holds onto the damn ball. Didn’t he have three fumbles in one preseason game and we lost two of them? I didn’t key in on his blocking but that fumbling issue is one that will kill a team and his chances of sticking. He was fun to watch until the ball hit the ground.

Hey @jakebogen95 .... good work. There are a couple typos you might want to clean up (like Reams)if it’s not too late but good work.

I may merge the other thread into this one so yours still shows up. Any objections from the class?

I think a lot of people (probably because of Tavob's contract) didn't see the huge impact Tavon had - on the backing front - he played much bigger than his size, the willingness to be that team guy ALWAYS impressed me.

I hope one of these new guys have the same sort of effort as TA

I see the Rams possibly trading one of these guys for a draft choice. All depends on how things shake out in training camp and preseason. Brown would likely bring the highest compensation, however, he's proven to be reliable and without him the rest of the squad has not played a down in regular season.

John Kelly ran bigger than he was at Tennessee and besides having great wiggle, Justin Davis is 6-1 200lbs so he offers nice size too. With the addition of Kelly keeping four running backs seems possible because Austin played that role and was listed as a WR, so that's why the Rams kept only three RB's last year. Easy to pick Gurley, Brown, Kelly & Davis, but if Davis struggles in pass protection and holding onto the rock again, enter a Rose by any other name.

@jakebogen95 great piece even with the typo of Reams, that made me think of the old porn star, Harry Reems.
