Go from quick strike to a boring ass offense .....should have gotten a speed receiver
Please! Kupp and Woods and our backs are more than capa of long plays we see it all the time. This offense is going to be good still. Hope opponents write us off too.

Damn I just love this! He is genuinely PUMPED to be a Ram!

Can you imagine being a high IQ player that is an absolute technician as a route runner. . . ?

I would just think a few minutes with Mcvay would have you out of this world ready to join one of his teams!

Also I think too much is being made of "deep threat" here. Woody has beaten defenses deep in this scheme. Kupp can too. Hell I've see Higs get past the safeties.

Jefferson has enough raw speed to beat teams deep. DBs are going to have to be ON HIM if they want to shut him down, and they're just a double move away from trailing him and praying their safety is there.

Yeah, it sucks that Woods and Kupp can never get open deep ...

Guess we are nothing but dink and dunk from now on ...

Kupp does all that in the slot vs lbs .... i did say that we do have hope in woods because hes a 4.4 guy but im not sold on Jefferson as a outside receiver but i could be wrong most of hisnbest plays came from slot.... woods can take the top off a defenses..... i also think its going to be a lot 2 Te sets because they want to get both Te involved more

Did you see the Kupp catch against Chicago? That was against DBs.

Nobody will ever rave about Kupp's speed, but the fact remains that crisp, concise route running - as Kupp, Woods and Jefferson all display, can do wonders for getting a guy open, including open deep. On the flip side, all the speed in the world makes no difference if you can't run routes well. See Austin, Tavon.

Keenan Allen timed at 4.77 which isn't close to what he actually runs. Allen was hurt when he was timed. When he fully recovered his training improved his time and he runs in the upper 4.5 to 4.6 range. I know because I was there where the team timed him at a TC session for some reporters. But regardless he's like Kupp and Jefferson who also are nightmares to cover because of their route running. Kupp also timed at 4.7 before the draft. But after his injury, his rehab actually has made him much faster and quicker.

You also need to note that Jefferson timed in the mid 4.5 range by his coaches in college last summer. He has no official NFL times because of his foot injury. That is fast for a man his size. Florida looked at him as not only a mid-range threat but a deep threat as well. In reality, we also might be looking at another Robert Woods. They are about the same height and run with similar speed. The difference is Jefferson is more elusive in his route running. Jefferson is fast, with good height, good hands, who runs outstanding routes. He can run the entire route tree short to deep.

IMO the Rams now have one of the best trio of WRs in the NFL. So although I speak of a ball control offense, that quick deep strike element is still there and it's not just Woods. Out of their standard 11 personnel, McVay can layer his receivers as he loves doing. TE Everett short, Kupp midrange with both Woods and Jefferson going deep. Also, remember Goff will have Henderson or Akers in the flats. You blitz Goff now and you will get burned. With that type of passing threat the Ram draw or interior power run game will be very dangerous.

I think we are going to see an offense better than the 2018 version. People are going to be surprised because IMO the RAMS ARE BACK, watch out NFL because you have been put on notice. They will have a top 10 offense and defense this year. Also, this team is built for the long term.

I also think we should get a boost from an improved OC position under McVay. There were a ton of games last year where defenses were sitting on route combinations for a given down/distance. Big difference there between 2018 and 2019.

Was going to link some in fact in that Dallas game. Boy did we get outschemed in that one.

One of our UDFA's, Brandon Polk, ran a 4.28.... For comparison, Tyreek Hill runs a 4.24

I would not be shocked at all to see this kid get the KR/PR job.

Yeah him and Edwards for that matter. Edwards is a pretty good returns prospect.

Quick strike and possession passing has a lot to recommend itself imo. The Rams passing game has the potential to be really efficient and maybe a lot more. Kupp, Woods and Jefferson all have the ability to get open on precise routes and cuts and Goff will be able to confidently throw with anticipation to them. Looking forward to the Rams again having a third down conversion rate near the top of the league.

But I think there will be big plays too. The Rams will have a lot of receiving options, all of them fast enough to get downfield. I expect Higbee and hopefully Hopkins to be serious mid field targets, and Akers to get the ball as a receiver out of the backfield. Also expect innovative schemes from O'Connell and McVay to stretch the field and isolate targets.

We'll see... but there is a lot of playing and coaching talent to work with.

So what does this mean? Is he fast and but plays slow?

I've wondered what it means too. At worst nothing bad!

The Senior Bowl times were in pads, at top speeds for each receiver, as measured by some new technology. Rounding the results off, what it suggests is that Jefferson's actual on field speed is not materially different from that of some other highly regarded prospects (such as Mims). The fact that the post was made by the Senior Bowl Director also suggests that a knowledgeable guy who was there thought it was a significant positive. Also the secondary defenders at the SB voted Jefferson the best receiver that week or something equivalent.

The bottom line for me is that Jefferson is fast enough to be an outstanding receiver in the NFL. However, Jefferson's route running, cuts, and mastery of the position are what really distinguish him.

Just posted this in another thread regarding Jefferson's speed. MPH numbers were recorded at the senior bowl. Look at the comparable speeds from other WRs who all ran sub 4.39 40-times.

** Van ran a top speed of (21.05MPH) (safe to assume he runs 4.39 or better)

Devin Duvernay (20.90 MPH) 40 time of 4.39 or better at combine
Denzel Mims (20.26 MPH) 40 time of 4.38 or better at combine
Antonio Gibson (20.15 MPH) 40 time of 4.39 or better at combine

This kid can play outside 100%. Not sure why he's getting penciled in as a slot WR. Likely due to all the Kupp comparisons we heard during the draft. I think he is very well suited to play outside with his size, speed, and route running. WRs with LOS releases like Van's are very tough to jam in press, even if he doesn't posses elite strength playing on the outside (Van's kinda skinny right nw).

I love those Penn St. guys. Wanted Hamler but I'm fine with Jefferson instead. Polk returned some kickoffs for Penn St.. He didn't do much in the receiving department though...19 for 292 (15.3) with 3 TDs his last 2 years there. At James Madison he tore it up....74 for 1179 and 11 TDs and 14 KR for 360 yd (25.7). He's a long shot to make the 53 but if he opens some eyes, maybe the PS?
