Don't think the starter matters so much. Each brings something different to the offense and it should be a two headed attack with the hot hand or the guy that attacks the opposing defense the best getting the bulk of the carries.

I actually do think the starter matters because they have different running styles.
You need to be able to plan an offensive attack involving the ground and air. Henderson constantly getting dinged up makes that tough.
Michel won’t break long runs.. but may be able to force the defense to respect the run.

I would start Michel. In games where the OL is opening good holes work Hendy in for big play potential. If the running is tough stick with Michel.

Sony would be my pillow man i.e. Otis Anderson.

Michel is a grinder. Been saying it since he joined the team. He's more consistent than Henderson. His power run style wears the front 7 down physically and mentally. You beat on them enough and he will eventually break a big run as we saw this week. Henderson is a change of pace back you bring in to spell Michel. But Sony did something Henderson hasn't done all year, i.e. he ran for 125 yds.

The Rams need to run the ball against the Cards. The threat of a power RB like Sony will slow the pass rush and makes play-action far more effective. This game should be a trendsetter. Run the ball to stay out of 3rd and longs, control the clock and control the game. The Jag's record doesn't reflect it but their defense is actually pretty good. Good enough to beat the Bills and their high-powered offense. To beat any NFL team by 30 points means you are doing a lot right on both sides of the ball.

Michel should be the #1 RB the rest of the season because he's earned it.

I have been on the start Michel train since he joined the Rams. And, thats not a slight to Henderson - as he is equally important.

Outside of the Derrick Henry’s of the world it’s not a single back league anymore.

What I like about Michel is he feels more like a tone setter. Every game you need to establish a position in the run game. Getting a yard or two on a busted play sets up 2nd and 8… as opposed to 2nd and 10.

Michel feels more capable of that early in the game when you need to demonstrate you can run the ball.

This right here hits the nail on the head IMO.

Henderson has his strengths but seems to oftentimes go down at first contact and lack the ability to “make something out of nothing”

Michel is always moving forward even on broken plays and as you said there’s is a big difference between a couple of yards. Getting back to the line to setup 2 and 10 vs taking a 2-3 yd loss is sometimes the difference between a stalled drive and a TD.

I believe this will only be amplified in the playoffs, you need a back that can get the tough yards.

If there is a concern with Michel it probably is ball security. I haven’t looked up his NFL stats but that was listed as one of his “needs improvement“ coming out.

I don’t recall it being a problem in NE, but it’s something he needs to stay focused on each run.

Henderson has been pretty tight with the ball.

I haven't really paid attention to his fumble numbers either, but I highly doubt BB would continue to play someone with fumble issues though I have been wrong before

Honestly i feel like you could start either guy. The difference is sticking with the run game establishing it which in turn makes playaction all that more effective. I loved seeing the jumbo sets. People forget when this team made the Superbowl run we were a run first offense behind Gurley that also made big plays downfield off the playaction. If we get back to that type of style mixing in the 4 and 5 wide every now and than we will be a dangerous playoff team.

Should be Michel getting bulk of the carries at about 2/3 with Henderson getting the other 1/3. More jumbo packages please... was a great game plan this week.

While thats true...what Gurley did for our Offense is not really repeatable without another all time great level talent. He opened things up so well because he was a monster that teams feared.

I agree, that Sony should be our starter. We need hard won yards, and Sony does that and Hendo often gets easily stopped. If we don’t run the ball to set up the pass, we have no chance in the playoffs, imo.

Michel played well today and kept grinding.
His runs weren't flashy, but he ploughed on.
Nice 1-2 we have woth Hendo.
I'd start with Michel in the next game.

True Gurley was different and a beast. But heading into the playoffs we need to take that same approach of establishing and sticking with the run. We need to be balanced against the good teams because in the 4 losses we have each teams defense was not going for the fakes when we hadn't even run the ball. But when we did run the ball against those teams it opened the offense up. I just want us to stay balanced on offense.
