Mensah was going in to the 2nd year of a 2 year, 8 mill deal. Its not like he took 10 mill over 0
I imagine there will be a buy out of sorts
Pretty disloyal on his part
Doing it late is unprofessional. If he'd jumped early on, hey no worries and impossible to blame him. But leaving his boys in the lurch... No matter how I look at it gotta admit it bugs me.

I gotta say, it would be really nice to have a QB whose legs are a threat.
Agreed. I think we're going to see a shift this offseason at QB. It will probably be just the backup spot. But it could potentially be Stafford as well.

Now some will say I'm crazy. But I'm just going off the fact for two years running now there's been under-the-radar drama. And last offseason it took McVay and Stafford clearing the room to come to agreement.

Lastly I think how this postseason plays out will be part of the decision for the Rams. If we ride to the title they will undoubtedly pay him at least closer to what he wants. If not, they may reload at QB and that could go a number of different ways, to include a young QB even though many seem to think McVay requires a vet.

There was a point this game where I thought, I don't care that Stafford is the MVP, they need to make a change and get some mobility at QB. More rationale thought though says you stick with the MVP old guy.

Just draft a kid who can cook on that depth chart behind him.

There is zero chance they move on from Stafford this offseason, unless he retires of course. Jimmy is a maybe. But McVay really likes Jimmy. Him missing practice with back issues this week caught my attention though. But this team will be capable of contending again. Lotta draft picks, lotta cap space. McVay is not going to waste a season on breaking in a new QB if the team has a shot to win it all. Minnesota made that mistake this past season and it likely shut their window. By the time they get the QB situation straight they won’t have the same roster.

If there is someone in the draft they like, that’s great. But he won’t be in position to start next year. Only 2 vets that would be interesting to trade for would be Dak or Burrow. But Cincinnati isn’t going to trade Burrow within the next 365 days and Dallas probably won’t trade Dak either.

I think there's zero chance Stafford's not the Rams starter next year.

I do hope they bring in a backup to try and develop.. Maybe take a shot on Levis. He's started 21 NFL games and showed some potential and has a canon. Maybe a year of rehab and watching allowed for some growth/learning in a less pressurized environment. I'd just love to take a swing on that type of guy because.. who knows????

Just curious: why take a shot on a retread over a draft pick?

People are just really down on this QB class minus Mendoza. McVay and Snead would really have to find a diamond in the rough. The fact that Alabama QB Ty Simpson is getting first round chatter absolutely blows my mind. He has 17 career starts—several of which he played poorly in—and he’s undersized.

Doesn't blow my mind. He was up and down, but when he was on, he looked like a NFL QB. That said, I'm very intrigued by Trinidad Chambliss and hoping that he isn't successful in trying to get another year of eligibility.

Dude is a moron with the ball but if someone can fix his head, there could be something there. Will definitely need to work on his touch too.

Yeah I get that. I'd rather take a shot on Simpson or Chambliss than a retread. I'm not a big fan of retreads as they've already shown they don't have it.

Like Darnold and Mayfield?

And.. the thing is.. you're bringing him in while you still have Stafford.. so you can see if there's a real possibility before Stafford retires.. and you've lost no draft compensation... well.. maybe a 5th or 6th rounder.

Yup.. has some issues.
I have no idea if they can fix him... but he's got raw tools that no one in this draft class has.

I need to see significantly more from a QB if they’ve got fewer than 20 starts in college. The track record for QBs with fewer than 20 starts over the past 15 years is abysmal. Cam Newton the only one that worked out and Simpson isn’t in the same galaxy of prospect that Cam was. He still needs way more reps. I actually think Brock Purdy is a high end comp for him, but Purdy started over 40 games in college.

Mitch Tribusky, Anthony Richardson, Mac Jones, Kyler Murray, Ryan Tannehill, Duane Haskins, Mark Sanchez all left college with fewer than 20 starts, and none of them sustained any kind of long term success in the NFL.
