If we can trade that high #1 for a couple of 1sts from a bad team that would suit me just fine.
Unless we can get to #1 without giving up the farm and get Mendoza.
Still, I want to ride it out with Stafford for a bit.

Tennessee is going to have the #1 overall pick again, so the #1 overall pick will likely be in play

Have you actually watched South Carolina games this season, or still watching highlights only from lateness year? He has done NOTHING to earn consideration as a 1st round talent. Just another Anthony Richardson clone, no thanks.
I am assuming if you've watched South Carolina you've also watched interviews with LaNorris Sellers? If you have, you will understand that he is NOTHING LIKE Richardson. Except for being big, black, and run-first.

Richardson has rocks for brains. Sellers most certainly does not. It's a lazy comparison.

None of this to say that Sellers deserves R1 consideration this year, I agree with you that he doesn't. But he's not a Richardson clone. If he goes back for another year and gets some better o-line play, I think he could be a R1 guy in '27.

Yeah, them or the Giants, puts that pick in play. The question is how much do you give up for a Simpson or Mendoza? You have to be really sold on that kid to do that while at the same time expecting that kid to sit for a year or two, or maybe more if Stafford continues playing at a high level. This wouldn't be like spending a late #1 on Jordan Love.

I have no dog in this fight but just because one player is more articulate than the other doesn't really mean much in terms of football knowledge.

Nobody ever accused Lamar Jackson of being the best interview.

I was really hoping Shough would continue to play well so New Orleans would pass on QB, leaving the door open of a potential Manning run in '27, then if Atlanta could slip in front of the Raiders and Browns they'd be in line for the 1st QB on the board

One potential difference is while this draft might have 1 or 2 QBs considered 1st rounders, the 2027 draft may have 5 or 6.
Same thing was said about last year compared to this. You can't plan on the next year being better if somebody you like is available you take him.

I'd take Sellers in the first round if I was the Rams without thinking twice. He's a #1 overall level talent. I will absolutely buy low on him. I hope he declares.

To add another wrinkle to the discussion, if they go with Stafford beyond 2026, it will affect how many of their young stars they can retain.

Several of the young guys qualify for extensions and/or could be resigned with the new contract starting in 2027. If they're resigning Stafford that year, they will have to let some of the young guys walk.

So you'd also have to be sold on Stafford continuing his strong play and good health for several more years.

I made that very same point last year, and in the earlier Manning thread this year on this board, regarding this upcoming draft class.

And while potentially true for 2027, there looks to be more potential options for 2027 than there ever was for 2026. Especially, with some of the 2026 guys probably staying in school and being available for that 2027 draft class.

That said, I agree that teams shouldn't plan on the next year at the position at the expense of players available this year. But, at the same time, teams shouldn't give up significant assets trading up in an attempt to fill a position with a lesser rated player.

IMO, Mendoza and Simpson are guys you select at your spot. Maybe even move up one spot for, but that's it. Neither or worth trading significant compensation to obtain. BUt, if the opinions that really matters (the Rams) feels differently, then so be it.

That's a really great point
