Almost 2 months later, I choose Cincinnati Bearcats QB Brendan Sorsby with the late 1st round selection, if he declares. But, only if the plan is to let him sit and learn for 1 - 2 years.
I forget which talking head said this recently, but the guy said no matter what you may hope for, there is no chance that the Rams next QB will be better than or as good as Stafford. It's just such a high probability that you certainly won't find a guy that someday will be in the top 15 of every QB category. Now, you could argue you may get a different type of talent that could be nearly as effective as the 33 -37 yr old Stafford, but even that is high unlikely.
I agree that, as of now, I would just take the best players you can get in that first rd, focusing on need areas like CB, WR, or maybe OL, and then maybe use a 2nd day pick on a tools QB that can possibly develop in a few years. Maybe you can move back a few spots and grab an extra day 2 pick to grab that QB. Still allows you to pursue a QB next year, when the class should be much better if a number of these guys go back to school which is what McSay is saying is what he is hearing. Moore & Sellers in particular are guys that he heard are likley returning, with Sellers likley transfering.
So keeping our fingers crossed that Stafford finishes strong this season and wants to play a few more years. Heck, if Brady & Rogers can play well into their 40's, not sure why Stafford can't play to at least 39, as long as McVay focuses on protecting him.
Mendoza looks like a Goff clone. Maybe ahead of where Goff was at this stage in terms of playing in bigger games, but similar skill set. McShay made that comp a few weeks ago, and I definitely see it.

Always a possibility with Coach. And again there's quite a few big bodies for outside the hash in this draft, some of whom are the kind of wideouts it seems impossible to get where we usually pick.
Have to think Tyson goes bluechip, he impressed when I was watching Leavitt. But no way Coach would pass on a talent like him, and after him you have Tate, Brazell, Boston who all look great just comes down to who blows out that 40 time during predraft.
Going back to those non-blue chip QBs it is entirely possible the Rams take BPA up top with Atlanta's pick then take one of the QBs they like even if they have to position for him. There should be numerous options depending on who comes out.
This draft is going to be unbelievable. It is possible in this next year we get a strong playoff run plus an early half of round one or maybe even top ten pick plus two more picks by the end of round two. Exciting time to be a Rams fan.
Honestly, I think Brazell is my favorite, even over Tyson. No offense to Tyson, but Brazell just runs routes better than any big receiver I've seen in some time. I wouldn't be upset with Tyson, Tate, or Boston either.
I still think Sarratt should go first round, even though he won't. He reminds me so much of Kupp, it's not even funny.
Maybe I'm missing something, but that seems like a Cleveland Browns type play. What would be the purpose of using a high premium pick this year just to return to the market next year?
If you don't think the guy you draft this year is or could be the QBotF, then stay away, and trade back for 2027 draft capital when you're ready to get your guy.
If you're only looking for a temp backup QB, they can roll with Garoppolo and Bennett or use a later round pick.
A 2nd is extremely high for a throwaway pick.
I said day 2. So if you use a 3rd rd pick, the guy may have a shot. I am not saying draft Sean Manion part 2, but grab a kid with upside. A late 3rd is not that big a deal and if it's even for a solid #2 QB, it's not bad value. And if they like the kid and he develops, you get a steal. It's not like we expect Bennett, Jimmy G, or Stafford to all be here 2 yrs from now.
It's better than forcing a first rd pick for Kenny Pickett part 2.

If that Day 3 pick were to be Mateer or Leavitt I could get behind it. And there's a couple others too but with them it sort of comes down to how tall they are.
Also for me QBs are kind of hard to slot because it's tough to nail down their arm strength watching shitty youtube vids. I am sure attending the workouts live makes that evaluation easier. But unfortunately for me I never seem to get invites.
Ah my bad. I read that as a 2nd round pick. Day 2 is still a little steep for me since I don't think they're searching for a #2 QB.
I'm with you on not drafting Kenny Pickett or on forcing a 1st round pick, which is why I said if they feel the class is bad, gear up for 2027 by amassing draft capital in that year.
Forcing a QB pick at all is unwise, IMO, but if you're gonna do it, it should be for a guy they think will be the QBotF. I wouldn't even throw away a 3rd.
I do think there's a chance Bennett will be around in 2 years.
Usually not much difference in the player grades when it comes to players selected near the bottom of rounds vs. players selected in the next round.
Give me the extra year of control. Especially, if the plan is to sit him for 1 - 2 years.
That said, a strong finish and a good pre-draft process and they might even have to take him earlier (if he declares). Still early. Who knows?

If Stafford keeps balling out and runs it back, I'm pretty confident that 1st pick will not be a QB. I'd venture to guess that we'd go toy, OT or CB before doing so. Highest pick we would probably go is our late 1st or in the 2nd.

He's aging nicely. Playing like an MVP so I don't get using a super high pick on his successor if he wants to keep playing. Surround him with more talent/protection to keep the offense humming.
Yes that extra year of team control is well used on QBs. So to me it makes perfect sense dipping into the late first round to get your QB or just take the round 2 value QB you like there late first. Also I think supply and demand play into QBs, you cannot screw around with them and if you do that you will have an even harder time getting the QB you want. If you like the player and it's a slight reach that's not a big deal.
And maybe late first after a trade down, if our initial pick is around 25. That at least would get us back a late day 2 pick that could be used on a C or another DB, etc...
Looks like Nussmeier's stock is crashing even further. We always see guys like this. They get a lot of press as a very accomplished and mature college QB, but he lacks upside and on top of it, he is having a rough year. Looks like a career back up or limited starter on a mediocre team.
I would take Sorby, Robertson, or Behren Morton over him just due to their athletic profile and ceiling potential. They could be had anywhere from late 1 (Sorby) to late 3rd or maybe later. Of course you don't get that 5th year option as mentioned above if you take one of these guys later. Sorby would likely be okay value in late rd 1.
Kind of like the Packers sitting on Jordan Love for 3 years. The only issue with that is you may be forced into a tricky 2nd contract if the guy only starts a yr or two before that next contract is due and you still have some concerns.

He's a 37 year old QB who has back and elbow problems who has talked about retirement. The question is if there's a QB worth taking. If there is, take him. There is zero reason to be shortsighted here.
