The Rams trade a first rounder for a first rounder next season. Kick the can down the road, unless Stafford retires. Are there any legitimate franchise QBs this season? If Stafford retires after the Rams win another ring, I'd rather have Garappolo for a season and not draft a questionable QB from college for a King's ransom

I might take Mateer in Round 1. I'd need to watch him more closely to confirm. But as I see it, we have the rare situation where we can take a risk and buy low on a gifted kid who has uneven film and some flaws that can be cleaned up. Packers have done quite well with that over the years.

I don't know where Sellers will slot if he comes out, but if he's available to us when we pick, I'd draft him. Think that kid can be a special player in the right situation, and we're a team that presents that sort of situation.
I wouldn't take either of them with Atlanta's pick. But I agree getting that 5th year option on either of them would be worth the first round selection. And I think that's going to be a trend going forward, teams coming back into round 1 and getting that 5th year late in the round. So the Rams should be positioned well for that with their own pick.

For that bluechip group at the very top I'm thinking it'll be Mendoza, a couple edges (that group is so talented it could be different combos), Love, and a couple of the wideouts (another deep group at the top depending on how they run). Also have Woods (DL) being talked up all over the joint though I haven't watched any of his film yet but I will get to it. And if Moore comes out he'll probably sort into that group. Also Maiava isn't polished by any means but he's tough and athletic and has the size and tools so I'd imagine he gets pushed up the board due to his upside.

Sellers I would have been good with up there had he played a little better but I don't think we have to take him high if he comes out. Could be way off too, who knows when it comes to the QBs. But I expect him to sort into round 3 range. Ish.

A QB with his physical gifts? I doubt that. He ain't coming out if he's getting third round grades.

Agree with Jrry just not going to happen. The one thing that will always get over drafted is physical tools and he has them more than anybody else.

The young'uns on ROD probably don't even know how great Pendleton was for us at QB!
Also a talented hair-dresser, who did well with the women.

Unfortunately, he went bad, became a violent criminal and was shot and killed on a country road ...

with Faye Dunaway!

Yeah, but Carly Simon sang about him, so he was above the rest.

Well I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun

That lack of a a dominant DL or OT makes me wonder if they will be able to trade back.

I forget who it was but I recall a former GM interview on Sirius NFL Radio talk about experiences he had trying to trade down at times and not being able to find anyone that wanted to trade up.
I think the Atlanta pick could be as high as #6, but even if it stays at #9 or so, I think there will be a QB there that someone wants. Two years ago, it was #8 Michael Penix, #10 J. J. McCarthy, and #12 Bo Nix. In 2026, I think Ty Simpson, and probably a couple of other QBs will go in the 5-15 range--just because it happens every year. If so, the Rams will be able to trade back or get a pick next year.

I think the Rams are happy with their OL, and they don't seem likely to draft a developmental guy there, considering how well Alaric Jackson is playing and how good McClendon has been playing. He just shut down Josh Sweat, who already had 11 sacks going into the game and who was expected to give McClendon fits. I also don't think the Rams value OL as much as we do--or they think they can coach up middle-rounders at OL.

I don't think the Rams think they need a CB, and their highest pick at CB under McVay might have been Rochelle in R4, who flopped badly, so I don't think they will take a CB with that Atlanta pick. I think the Rams feel comfortable with Forbes, Durant, etc. there, even if we don't.

Under McVay, the Rams always seem to target studs at RB, TE, and/or WR, so I expect them to go R/W/T if they keep the Atlanta pick. I also think they might want to double down on DL in case they have to let Turner and/or Young go in free agency.

Of course, what do I know?! I'm just speculating like the rest of us here. I just think the Rams have very clearly valued some positions and ignored others in the draft.

Day 1 starter and immediate upgrade to the OL at RT

The same as Fano

Both top 10 picks by most estimations. Also a couple CB in Jermod McCoy and Mansoor Delane could be around that time we could really use. There are also some very good RT that will be gone later in the first and in the second rounds.

Hey, I like how you think, and I would love to have either of them, but I think the Rams are happy with Alaric Jackson and Warren McClendon right now. McClendon skunked a very good Josh Sweat on Sunday. Also, I don't think the Rams like to spend high draft capital on OL--the only guy they did take high was Avila, and they had a need then. I do think the Rams would strongly consider taking either of those Polynesian guys at 32, but I agree with you that neither will be there then.

I like CB, too, but the Rams have spent fewer high picks there than anywhere, it seems. I also think they love Forbes and Durant.

It seems like the Rams like to go DL and WR high, and I wouldn't be surprised if they went DL/Edge at 8 and WR with the 32 pick.

Those are my predictions. As for my wishes, I'd like them to get young guys at DE, OL, and CB, and WR. I hate drafting safeties and inside linebackers because there are so many studs there in the NFL who weren't even drafted. You don't need to be a freak athlete there.

Anything is possible.

That said McClendon is nice but is signed for one more year. With the recent drafts we could use his extension money elsewhere. Add to that both those guys are upgrades and McSnead are about making the team better.

Forbes and Durant have been pretty good. But how good is the secondary if they're #2 and #3? And again it makes the team better.

The one trait McVay always stresses at WR is route running. They have to be where they're supposed to be. Even more than blocking that's what he stresses, its what he said they liked about Mumpfield. With Adams aging and his recent comment on a podcast tying him to Stafford playing a WR is always an option.

Edge is the one spot we're really good at and have spent draft capital. It's always a possibility, they could draft one instead of retain Young. Who knows anything is possible.

One position I see us drafting for sure is safety. Too many pending free sgents.

All I look at is what makes the team better, I'm not tied to any player. And the Rams under Snead have generally drafted for a position a year before its agents.

The only certain thing here is nobody on ROD knows what they'll draft and its mo ths away from happening.

Hard to say what the team might do based upon past actions as the McSnead combination has never had a top 10 pick.

As far as another team trading up for a QB, if I'm that team's GM, I'm not calling the Rams. I'm calling the teams ahead of the Rams for fear that the Rams might take my guy given Stafford's age.

I also believe that the Rams will probably re-sign McClendon if he keeps up his play. Either way, with him signed through 2026 I doubt that they would use so high a selection on a 2026 backup non-QB. They are gong to want to maximize the Stafford window.

CB could be in play. When the Rams drafted Rochelle, they already had Jalen Ramsey. Besides most of the secondary are set to be free agents after this season. That's Durant, Witherspoon, McCreary, Lake, & Curl. Plus Darious Williams will be 33 years old.

RB probably not happening as Corum is signed through 2027 and Williams is signed through 2028. And they really liked Hunter. WR? That's an option given Adams age and contract status. At one point I thought TE could be an option given Oregon TE Sadiq looks like a stud, but Parkinson has stepped up and they just took Henderson.
