I never brought up that they would trade for a vet QB. It was about the likleyhood that they could trade up to #1 for Manning because most any team picking #1 would draft Manning. Even a team like the Bengals with a vet QB. Read the original post.
Do you understand how conversations work? I entered the thread laughing at the idea of Burrow getting traded. It was mentioned in several places. I didnt quote you, you chose to engage with me and defend a way that they would/could trade him. Which is entirely laughable btw
So back on somewhat of the topic.....
I dont see where Arch Manning comes out in '26, only if he truly knows he'd be the #1 overall. And if he's #1 overall the Rams would have almost 0 chance of trading up there unless Atlanta had entirely shit the bed

Steve Young (Buccaneers to 49ers). You can throw Goff/Stafford trade in, if you think Stafford was top 5.
Fran Tarkenton (Giants to Vikings). There's a few for what they're worth.
Steve Young was a total bust though, then rode the bench in San Fran for 4 years. There are plenty of guys out there now who could fit that bill. Mariota, Winston, Lance etc. In the guise of the thread conversation, that could basically be Jimmy Garoppolo. The Stafford trade is the outlier, sort of fits in with the once in a lifetime Kurt Warner/Tom Brady type stuff. The common vet trade which is most likely is the Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Kenny Pickett, Donovan McNabb type. Heck Darnold and Mayfield fit the bill on bust trades that were a disaster.
After the recent Stafford contract news it seems that both sides see a 2-3 year window with Staff, and that's awesome. As it pertains to next year's draft class, it doesnt need to be the instant franchise guy, it can be the Jaxon Dart type who needs to sit a year and learn. It's going to be a fun year for college football nutcases who love talking about the crop of QB's. I know I sure am one of them

I just hate saying never in these hypotheticals. If for example everything were to go bad for Cincinnati this year and they finish with the first pick in the 2026 draft, and if Burrow were to miss significant time, I would not rule out the Bungles trading him out for a younger model, assuming they like a QB enough in the draft. Say perhaps Arch has an epic season and then declares.

The stars could line up on that. I could see it, even though I don't think it's likely.
Well if we are ruling out disregarding hypotheticals, then we may as well not rule out Stetson Bennett becoming the next superstar for the Rams. I mean if anything can happen, then we cant rule out anything regardless of how implausible

You can see the talent with his ability to run and throw, his ability to move are far better then his Uncle's. Obviously, this is huge year for Arch and we will know right away because Manning's first game of the year is at Ohio State in Columbus and I will be in attendance at ringside.

IMO, I believe Arch is going to be outstanding this year and I also believe the Longhorns are going to win the National Championship, but again, that's just me.

And Tutu will have 2,000 yards this year with 14 TDs.

Stafford is on the fringe because he was close to top 5 so I count it. I don't know if we can say he was in his prime though and I think he asked out.

Young was not a top QB when he was traded. He developed into one later.

Tarkenton was before my time.

At any rate, it's clear from so few examples that it's practically unheard of for a healthy top QB in their prime to be traded.

Sarkisian has had some pretty loaded teams and seems to disappoint each year. I have no doubts that Manning will prove to be the real deal but I'll believe Sark gets a Natty when I see it

True, however, many said the same about Ryan Day. The Horns are loaded this year, but Penn State is too.

Norm Van Brocklin was 32 when he was traded to the Eagles (1958). 1957 the Rams had the top scoring offense in the league, and he had taken the Rams to the title in 1951. He's probably the best example and maybe the only one of a top QB being moved in his heyday.

Montana is close because his game was still elite before he got hurt (his last season in SF he won the MVP). His first year he took KC to the AFCCG. But he was into his late 30s when traded.

I don’t agree as simple as that. This years group wasn’t 1st rd worthy.

SO -yes searching for a QB later in the Draft might have made the most sense.

Last seasons draft your lucky to get a good QB after the 15th pick with 5 going in the first rd.
I don't know where to begin to disagree with this post. First, there were 6 QBs taken in the first 12 picks last year, not 5. Second, why would you draft a QB project late in a draft that is a horrible QB class?

Penn State, another HC who never wins
Day is an intersting case for sure. He proved his doubters wrong and that they were right, all in the same season.

See don't ever let them tell you that age isn't good for anything.

Seriously though this was all before my time and i figured someone would recall some examples. Appreciate it.

Exactly - look at The Trade with The Chargers & NY GIANTS & that HOF class.
I’m an Old Draftnk type. The Rams should’ve IMO drafted Matt Ryan.

Why would you draft Chris Long who was a twinner #2 overall when Matt Ryan has WAY more VALUE ?
That would be my example of forcing NY (Falcons)Giants to make a trade. If not you have a starting QB. ? We can get into that deeper ?

Then even with Jay Cutler,IMO you use The Draft for leverage.Trading back & drafting TY Hill(thanks Torry) when the value of SJ39 as a player was under appreciated.

I’m also not Big on Trading up,and it signing a Todd Gurley & Jared Goff(Bulger) with a season left on there rookie contract. The Rams before that played hardball with AD99.

Talking about next season and the Drafting a QB IMO devalues the season &The Rams Players.I’d say Raheem Morris might even win the NFC South ?

I guess if your asking about 2025 QB class compared to 2024 class?
EVERYONE of The 2024 QB class I would’ve drafted before CAM WARD & any other QB in this year’s draft.

Don’t know anyone else’s feelings, but he showed me very little.I compare Matt Ryan against Florida State throwing up on the sidelines & going back in trying to BC # 1 in the Nation. Then you see Cam Ward loss to Georgia Tech when if they win there rated number 1 at the time to only LOSS!

IMO he doesn’t make good reads & not a above average Pocket Passer.

I remember the issue was that the Rams just gave Bulger a big contract the year before so they were kind of stuck at that point.
