Let's play a little game I like to call: "Where should Nick throw it?"

~~~
The Rams are up by 12-10. The Rams have it on the Vikings 31 yard line, 2nd and 10 after spiking the ball to stop the clock. 53 seconds left (plenty of time), and one timeout left.
At the snap, it looks like this below, Rams in 3-wide with Gurley in the backfield, Tavon is at the bottom of the screen out of the picture. The slot corner has tipped his hand that he's blitzing, with the Vikes shifting into 1-deep safety, and the 2nd safety moving forward to cover ex-Ram (yeah I said it) Sted Bailey in the slot.
A few moments later, it looks like this, Gurley has picked up the slot blitzer. Pass coverage is holding up. Foles has a chance to throw it literally anywhere. Where should he go?
A) To Britt steaming down the left side line on a GO route
B) To Sted Bailey, covered by a safety, who's running a comeback pattern
C) To Cook who's running down the seam
D) To Tavon Austin, where the only thing you know about him is that he's single covered. This is actually pretty consistent with Foles' situation because he didn't scan to that side of the field once, so you know exactly what Foles knew
Cook, on that particular play, IMO.
He could hit Bailey, but it's short of a 1st down.
Cook is the only one open. The safety wouldn't have enough time to cut back and make a play and cook already has his man beat.
Cook for sure but also does it bother anyone else that over and over the Rams have the big slow guys running go routes and fly routes while the smaller fast guys are running routes that bring them to a stop or across traffic?
I feel like the production could be higher if they used these guys in ways that suit their particular skills better.
Have you ever thought that the reason why the big "slow" guys run the go routes is because they recognize that foles will never be able to hit Austin in stride on a go route.. Every time they throw the ball to Britt something good happens and Britt is plenty fast enough to stretch the field we just can't see it because foles can't throw more than 30 yards
If Cook isn't open on that play then sugar isn't sweet.
Cook or Bailey. If he is throwing to Bailey the ball should be coming out on the second picture....actually to Cook too....With Baileys route he is open if the ball is coming out. Cook is the bigger play and easier throw really.
Cook is open...and it's not 3rd down so he'll probably catch it.
Said this while watching the game. Cook was open and if foles would have hit him in stride it's a possible TD.
So that is 4 possible TD's.... and counting. Anyone see a pattern?
The fact that the ball is not out on time is his biggest issue. that is going to be hard to fix.
It will be interesting to see if he can develop anything with Welker.
Britt has made some nice plays and been open down field. I agree on that but I'm just thinking about maximizing the Rams talent. To me it's not better to have Austin coming to a stop and fighting for a ball inside and Britt outside running speed routes. To me it's better to have it the other way around.
I'm not big on Foles at this point but I think he's got a good enough arm. He just waits to long to make the throws and by then the WR is so far they have to stop/slow and wait on the ball.
You think our leader has the ability to make that decision. Rhetorical, because if he did, we would have made the right play.
.
is this one of those rg3 moments where every receiver is open but he screws it up because he held onto the ball too long?
the obvious throw is to cook but if he's not the 1st read it's too much processing work for foles so i guess he threw it to the 1st read or took the sack or threw it away.
You should do this for the first play of the game.
The first play of the game was a mind boggling screw up. That play was specifically installed for Foles to throw it deep and get up early in the Vikings game. Throw deep to Britt. That was the play. There was no other target in that play. It was Britt deep. It worked beautifully and Foles never looks his way. How do you not even look at Britt on that play that seemed to be specifically designed for..........Britt to catch the ball deep?
