One thing i've never understood is when fans feel like they were lied to by a coach or organization about player injuries or trades or anything related to business that goes on behind closed doors really.

Like when Fisher said Bradford was the QB then got traded soon after. Fans were all about "He lied."
I'm like...no. The fan public and media was fed misinformation in order for the business(team) to benefit. Another scenario is simply that the organization changed their mind. Changing your mind in life or in business is not a crime. Big whoop.

Fans that got all riled up over the Gurley saga..."Why won't they just come out and tell the truth!"

The Rams don't owe the fans or the media the truth. They owe it to the fans to put a winning product on the field and not act like assholes when you ask for an autograph.

Honestly? I don't think that McVay is an asshole. Or, if he is, isn't as much of an asshole as coaches like Sean "Asshole Face" Payton. Players love playing for him, from everything I've heard. That's not asshole behavior.

My impression falls back on expectations. McVay designs these masterful (in his mind) plays and expects flawless execution. When his expectations are not met, the only rational he has is to criticize those running the plays (Goff).

Personally, I think he’s an egomaniac. He thrives on having hot air blown up his arse. I am over hearing Sneed and him on the microphones.

Quoting Elvis Presley, “A little less conversation, a little more action, please”
Well, he's got 4 winning seasons, 2 division titles, 1 NFC Championship and a Super Bowl appearance in his first 4 season. I'd say they've shown action with the conversation.

What if Asshole Face was actually a great guy?

I'm sure Gurley felt he was an asshole in 2019 with McVay riding his ass with spurs on film day. Same thing with Goff in 2020. The reason they all love him is because he wins. It's a crazy world what can I say I just live in it.

A great topic!

My guess; no. The success he is breeding goes against this notion as is the guys he’s attracting to his staff.

But... a good topic because, I dunno.... Good points made. You could be right! :D

Even nice guys can be assholes from time to time. It's a trick that holds a lot of weight when you use it very sparingly.

I can't say one way or another. I lean toward "great guy but can be an asshole when necessary. "

I dont think we extend our players early the way we have if Sean is an asshole. Sure, Snead has final say but I am willing to bet that McVay has more authority than we realize. Perhaps it isn't even authority so much as a great working relationship with Sneed in which sneed respects the hell out of McVay. Idk, but we didn't extend dudes like that under fisher. Then again, I think fisher had final say back then so who knows.

Maybe it doesn't have to do with being a great dude at all and it is purely a result of the Rams trying to get ahead of the projected cap increases.

I can say that Gurley's attitude problem was BS considering how much he got paid, and paid earlier than the Rams had to. Good God, imagine if the rams waited a year. Does he get that much money? Show some appreciation. Gurley=asshole.

Am I the only one who has noticed that when questionable character players come here, they don't really do questionable things anymore? Surely I'm not.

In some instances it is an amazing difference. Look at Ramsey before & after. The guy tweets about Jesus now. In fact, many of the Rams players have Jesus all over their Twitter and Instagram. I find that very amazing and indicative of the culture. Does it have anything to do with Sean? Who knows. It may have to do with who Whitworth is as a mentor and leader. That guy is the very definition of what a Christian is supposed to be. Not to get too religious on here but mainstream Christianity has missed the mark since the advent of the Roman Catholic Church. It's supposed to be about having a personal relationship with God. You can tell when someone really gets it, know them by their fruits, and Whitworth does.

Sorry for the insane rant. My adhd is in overdrive.

Cheers.

Unlike any single player, he IS responsible for wins and losses. He already has an argument for best coach in Rams history.

He's earned so much slack it's not even measurable right now

Let me ask this, how many of us here have had an asshole for a boss, and made us that much better in our jobs because of it?

*raises hand

I'm an asshole as a boss, and have been told so by the guys I've hired and fired, the ones who still work for me and the ones who worked for me then went on to bigger and better things.

I have also had an asshole for a boss with whom I put up with for 17 years and give him all the credit for where I have gotten in my life.

Naw he’s a dignified person. I believe even when he has to cut a player or demote then he does it with class and respect for the person.

But I wish they would drop the whole “family” breakdown.

In a family you are not cut for lack of performance. You are together through thick and thin.

Big difference between a tough boss and an asshole boss. Tough bosses challenge, push and mentor. Asshole bosses complain, insult and provide no mentoring. I’ve had both and there’s a big difference.

McVay has typically been very gracious in his approach to his players, coaches and opponents. He has and should have earned our respect, not a thread of this title. One recent example: keeping Bonamego on board apparently in part to support him with health issues.

McVay is also driven and ruthless about winning and will do what he has to do to get there. But that doesn't make him a jerk, let alone anything worse. Vermeil was the same way but was also a great gentleman.

I do see McVay becoming more frustrated because the offense hasn't performed up to his standards.

Stress is a real threat in his job. I hope he can maintain his balance and equanimity going forward. It's a fine line to do so in such a demanding position while trying to get the best results out of the team.

I posted this in another thread.

I feel fortunate that McVay is our head coach, and Snead is our GM.

That being said, I would be OK if Stan Kroenke did an interview tomorrow and said ‘Right now, Sean McVay is our head coach; and Les Snead is our GM but it’s only January 28th and everything is on the table.’

I think he might be like Nick Saban. He is a players coach and is really hard on the coaches. I'm not in the business, but it seems to me like you have to have some really thick skin. If you are doing your job, and you feel the heat, he is an asshole. If your not ding your job, and feeling the heat, he is an asshole. these guys are going for better jobs, and some will make them and others will not. I do not know Sean, but I do not think there is an asshole behind the curtain. I think there is somebody that wants to win, and pissed when he doesn't. That is professional sports.
