Big Rob Havenstien in case no one has seen or heard Lokks Great. He has taken over the Leadership role left by Whitworth.
The dude is like a bad Azz. Really being more physical & tough. Has been really working on his drop step against the speed rush & balance.
Noteboom is calm & cool. He also is like a veteran leader.Letting Havenstien have the spot light, but also monitors.
David Edwards hasn’t looked as solid as I thought he might.Brewer was taking a lot of 2nd string Center,so how he looks at RG will be important.
I think he has earned his place.

What happens with Bobby Evans?
It's time to cut him. I realize it might be difficult especially with the injury to Bruss and I'm sure they feel Evans has experience. However, Evans has not played well against backups and last year before trotting out Evans, when Brian Allen got hurt in Minnesota, they went with Jackson instead.

AJ Arcuri has shown enough IMO, to put on the practice squad and I trust others like Kolone & Brewer over Evans at this juncture. It is time to kiss and say goodbye.

I think people underestimate the difficulty it playing on the OL. Each position requires a different technique and skill set. More importantly, they need to play as a unit. The OL in the Texan game was a patchwork affair with guys rotating in and out of the lineup, they accordingly lacked the cohesiveness required to play at a high level. The coaches weren't concerned with that. They were looking at players in isolation, watching how they played and their technique.

The Texans were frustrated and embarrassed that 2nd and 3rd string guys were beating their starters. So they were throwing everything at them. Although to the casual Ram fan it looked like a clusterfuck the Ram coaches got a really good look at several players. Kolone, Anchrum, and Jackson stood out. Anchrum and Jackson should make the game-day rosters as reserves. Snyder had his moments good and bad, but the game did not look too big for him. I think how he plays in the 3rd game will determine whether or not he makes the roster or PS.

I for one came away feeling good about the depth on this team. There needs to be work done by a lot of the guys but others stood out as ready to contribute this season.
Yeah, I saw a couple of plays where the defense stunted and had a guy going around one of his guys and ends up untouched in the backfield. I gotta think a line playing together for a while could make the adjustment. Not to mention on one of the sacks Calais whiffed the block.

I'm on record as being a little worried that Bruss wasn't beating out Shelton. I just think the Rams could use bigger and stronger.

What I'm going to hope for is that Shelton can approximate Austin Blythe's 2018 performance at guard. They're very similar in size, arm length and athleticism. Maybe Shelton can turn in his career-best year and be at least league-average.

After that? Anchrum's play has greatly encouraged me, to the point where I'm not too worried if he ends up in the game.

I don't think we have seen any push in the run game since 2018?? They have been better in PP, but man I wish we had Saffold back...

Well, when most of your backups are late round picks and UDFAs, you're going to get what you paid for.
I forsee a really weak run game this season.

McVay and Snead’s faith in a line full of mid round talent has always been a weakness. Aside from Whiteorth have they had a consistently, legit top ten Olineman on the team?

Some guys have flashed for a season or less but overall there are no stars. Great Olines have at least two top quality players.

How could the depth possibly be good when the starters aren’t all that great. The Rams will struggle to run the ball again this year. I guess they can’t pay big at every position but it’s a gamble that skill positions can overcome the weaknesses on the line.

True, the Rams have not utilized any of their top draft assets investments {1st rd selections} on any OL'ers since the GRob disaster in 2014. But they have utilized a good amount on the 2nd & 3rd days of the draft along with some very good UDFA's since that disaster.

2nd-day selections
OT Havenstein
OT Noteboom
OT Evans
OT Bruss

3rd-day Selections
OT Brown
OG Wichmann
OT Demby
OC
Allen
OT Edwards
OT Anchrum
OT Arcuri

UDFA signings
OC Kolone
OG
Shelton
OG Brewer
OT Jackson
OT Pircher
OT Snyder

My biggest beef is the constant lack of interest in drafting excellent run-blocking OG's and completely relying on the conversion of starting college OT's. The evidence of this is posted above. However, on the positive side, Snead has continued to win since 2017 with this process by Snead & his hired coaches.

This year Rams made their priority & utilized their top 2nd-day draft selection an OL'er this season another college OT that was to be morphed into an OG the very early results @ this point in time have been very bad. The present biggest weakness on this team IMO is the run offense.

Before TC I was highly positive about the 2022 OL unit as a whole. Since I have yet to see how the new top 6 OL'ers will operate as a cohesive unit I still remain somewhat positive. What shook me most was over the Rookie Logan Bruss's failure for this 2022 season.

There are other slight concerns after the 2 preseason games.....LT Alaric Jackson's performance is highly inconsistent & not what I expected. But Alaric's work @ OG did flash some promise in gm #2.

LG/LT/RT Tremayne Anchrum would fall into some of the same issues as Alaric's but not as bad & Carberry continues to move TA around a lot. Hard to get a true reading but I still say LG is his best OL position.

Chandler Brewer has been working in several OL posts too & has been Jag like but fair enough mostly due to versatility to once again remain on the PS. Being able to play center is what might save him.

AJ Arcuri made a good comeback Friday night @ LT with a very good performance & demonstrated he is an OT, not an OG being over 6-7 320lbs.

I have failed to gain much of an opinion on 3 of our prospective reserves, center Jeremiah Kolone, OG Jack Snyder & PS OT Max Pircher.

Is there an issue @ OT or is it in the interior?

Andrew did play LG in his first 3 seasons with the Bengals. His performance @ LG was average his claim to fame came when they move him to the edge.

The only way I could see Andrew being begged to return to active status is if there was another injury event to the main interior OL'er. If this disaster were to take place the only place to insert him would be to back up or start LG post where David Edwards is starting.

Does that program automatically roll over into his second season ?
I believe so. I think the rule is, they can add an international player to the practice squad without giving up a roster spot on the practice squad, but that international player is not allowed to be called up to the active roster for that season.

Yep. The run game. Supposedly McVays offense works off the run, and he’s tried to run it even in games that that it wasn’t working.

They had a chance to draft a dominant center and instead drafted a 6th receiver. When will they say, this just isn’t working?

Evans looks disinterested out there. When a player who has been around as long as he has can't seal a fucking edge to the outside on a run play it's time to cut his ass.

I’ll drink to that.
You want to play OT in the NFL?
1) you protect against edge rushers.
2) you seal the edge on run plays.

A question I have maybe one of you can help me with it.....Let me set up my question first, please....From all reports, both RT Evans & OC Kolone have been the 2nd team backups to starters since TC began. In preseason both of these same OL'ers have spent about the same amount of snaps with the offense. Kolone getting a few fewer snaps than Evans.....

Since most all of us, fans here in ROD fully recognize that Bobby Evans has played his hand out for close to four seasons as a Ram OL'er. That his 2nd-day draft selection & his contract did not pay any dividends thus far since his rookie season... it is clear to me he is certain waiver material...does that indicate our main backup center Jeremiah Kolone is in the same position as Evans?:bueller:

One more injury and Whit comes out of retirement.
I also have this as a possible scenario, though later in the season... because our new starting LT has been injury-prone, much as I like him. Not wishing for it, would love to see Boom as our solid LT for years to come, but the possibility is out there. If that injury happens I wouldn't be surprised if they have Whit do a Weddle and come out of retirement for the playoffs. I'll file this thought in the back of my mind for now.
