The only rookie we have given up on in recent memory is one who clearly did not have the talent to do the job. And the board was correct about him.

The board also seems to have been correct on Gay too... Clearly we're gonna feel his departure. As I mentioned before I think McVay got lucky last time with Gay and doesn't have a proper appreciation for kicker hell but the football Gods are going to demand blood this time around.

But maybe he weedles his way out of this situation too. We'll see.
Or is it Weddles? Jk. Anyway we have a great kicker that only “Mahers” up the playoff stuff. We should be good until we aren’t.

We'll have to just agree to disagree on the first paragraph.

As for Gay my point was simple. If he played his rookie year for the Rams this board based on his play would have given up on him as a rookie. I would love to see people argue against that but it's simply what happens here. We just saw it with Brown, Gay was that bad as a r oomie.

Yeah Gay would have been tarred and feathered round here his rookie season. And rightly so. He was bad.

Brown wasn't up to snuff either. Same with Sloman.

This thought process you've been on that we should put on kid gloves for rookies is foolishness. Everyone is judged by what they do on the field. Even rookies. I think what's going on here is your ego is still wounded for being wrong about Sloman. Get over it. Move on dude.

I'm not advocating kids gloves! I'm advocating we as fans cool our jets with this idiotic bust label.

Funny thing with rookies. A site will grade drafts 24 hours after the picks are made. By and large we laugh and say it takes three years to grade a draft. Same people that say that will call a guy a bust based on two weeks of camp and a drive in preseason. That's what I'm talking about not kid gloves. You understand my point on this?

If they are not doing well as a rookie then they should be put on the practice squad to work out their rookie jitters

Good luck with that.
That is a true statement

But you can ask - why did the Rams get rid of Brown - he is a rookie who isn't ready yet

Does someone put him on their practice squad or does he go to Canada

Don't know, how many teams carry a kicker on their PS? Rams did last I think during Covid that's the only time I can remember us doing it.

But as to your put a struggling rookie on the PS I can just see a team have a 2nd or 1st round pick off to a rough start get thrown on the PS and poached by some other team. Should work out well you should suggest it to Snead as a new roster building technique.

Never said anything about a 1st or 2nd round rookie who is struggling

Was just talking about kickers since you have to play them whereas 1st or 2nd round struggling rookies are usually back-ups and don't need to play

Edit - I noticed I left out kicker in my statement - that's what I was saying since this is a kicker thread

Didn't mean to imply others as well

All good! I don't really like doing it with kickers, though I don't like Maher either if he had missed those XP's with the Rams people would have lost their shit about him now some are seemingly happy with signing him. But I don't think there are any kickers that will win or lose more than a game for us but I'd like the kid the Browns gave up on, much like Tampa gave up on Gay.

Yeah I am concerned with Maher and I agree - putting a kicker on the practice squad is not a good way to go

Maybe they have their eye on a kicker across the pond, currently playing rugby.

as long as it's sorted for the 24 team, this will be fine for now.

I think you meant "wheedles" or perhaps "weasels"? At least you aren't calling Eric "Weddle" a bug Pokemon, though, haha.

Regardless, it's just a matter of time before you are clamoring for the Rams to draft Harrison Mevis next year.

Of you never give up on Gay!!

& especially Tampa Bay is a haven. That just makes it a perfect place your guy Greg Gaines & man crush.

For me The Rams drafted punter who could end up being an All Pro at some point.

The Rams have always done well with special teams under Les Snead
